Since this is the user news area, I wanted to let you all know that I'm going down to Louisiana the week after next (possibly then) and I wont be on the board very often. I know you all probably dont know me (I know a few do) but I pop up here and there. Anyways, I'll be taking the AmTrack down and probably back up too, but I'm going to go down with my Grandma (she lives there, but shes visiting up here right now) and shes coming back up later in August. This IS the user news area so I figured I could put this here, but if not, put it where it ought to be please... ANyways the worse part of the trip is that my dad wont let me take my computer so I'll be without Morrowind, which is torture, but Morrowind Source will keep me sane =o)

I can bring back some gater sasuage, Jambalaya and some Gumbo =o) And the train ride is 24 hours, with a 10 hour layover in Chicago. Never been there, so I'll have fun. Infact a week from tomorrow, is when Im going down state (I lives in Michigan) to Grand Rapids to stay with my aunt for a few days then we are taking the AmTrack from there to Cicago then down to New Orleans I think. I'll try to get on every night to keep yall updated on how its going... UNFORTUNATLY... I cant bring my computer, so no Morrowind. But I've got the Morrowind soundtrack burned on no less then 3 CD/MP3's, so that and the Players guide will keep me content =o)
Brighid
Enjoy Chicago. That's where I live. With a 10 hour layover you should be able to see a bit of the city. If you're coming into Union, you will be just a few blocks from the Sears Tower.

Scrimpies? Gater Sausage? Jambalaya? Gumbo?

I've heard the name of the last two before but I still have no idea what they are. tongue.gif

Jambalaya is a spicy rice with some sort of sasuage in it. Usually gater sasuage, but there are box mixes for it in stores. Its made by Zataran's, but the best is the homemade stuff that you can get in Louisiana.

Gumbo is some sort of soup. Not sure whats in it, but its good.

Gator sasuage is Alligator meat. Its very tasty and a bit spicy...
Maquissar
Alligator sausage? God, I'd love to try that! Pity we have no alligators in Italy, or at least... not that I know of! What are scrimpies? smile.gif

Alligator sausage eh? tongue.gif Glad to know they're useful for something other than tearing people's limbs off!

And yes, what are scrimpies?
Adras
I havent a clue what scrimpies are O.o But I've heard that Grits are good, so I gotta try them... Unfortunatly, I dont like sea food, so when I go down, if we go out to eat, then I'm limited basically to chicken, burgers or steak =o) But that doesnt bother me.
Malchik
When I cook Jambalaya it has tiger prawns in it as well as chorizo. I seem to recall having blackened catfish and blackened chicken in New Orleans. Hot and spicy - just what the doctor ordered!

But what are scrimpies?
Adras
I still havent a clue O.o

And, yes Brighid, I'll be at the Union Station, so I'll see if we might be able to get there. Is it free to just go around in it and check it out?

Finally here. After 22 hours on a train and 9 in Chicago (my times earlier were a little off), I'm here. I went to the Sears Tower and actually stood at the bottom of it (I didnt want to touch the building incase one of the security guards came and hit me with their Billy Club over the head) and I couldnt believe how tall it was. From the station I got a pic of the top and then I got some pics of the side and the building next to it. It was great, but warm. And I got a blister on each of my middle toes blink.gif I suppose thats what I get for being a (I dont know what you Chicagoians call Fudgies) Chicago Fudgie.

The train ride was great. the people were extremely nice and they would talk to you and everything. I would greatly suggest that the next time you have to travel a long distance, I would go Amtrack. Dont go on Fridays though. I heard they were a mean crew =oP Well I better be off... Once I get the pictures developed, I'll put a few on the MB. Toodles.

(BTW- Its hot down here in the Boot)
