I have many picks on this category, but one of my all time favourites is from Chrono Trigger. The music on that game is just terrific, and I'm especially fond of the -->main theme<-- and of -->time circuits<--.

Basically all the songs on Devil May Cry 1 & 2 Goes along good with the game.

Hell March (all 3 from all 3 Red Alert games), and Oblivion theme (I played Oblivion only for about 30 minutes, but I loved the theme song) ...

Another Red Alert fan! Excellent. They did get good music for those games. And I love the little tune in MGS games when you die.

Fire Emblem! Love the theme tune for that. Several of the songs in the two Golden Sun games are excellent as well.

None of the above can be played with the music off without losing an essential part of the game, IMHO.

6. Half-Life 2 EP2 (sadly, EP2 still suffers from the loading zone music cutoff that every other Half-Life title has)
7. C&C (since you can change tracks at will)

I'm a LOOOOONG time TR fan, and I'm emotionally invested in the TR music from first to latest.

The music in Deus Ex wasn't bad. Probably not the best in the world but not the worst either.

For a techno theme, I think Extreme-G has a really good beat to it, especially on the first racetrack. The Kuldahar Village theme for Icewind Dale ranks the best fantasy theme.

The BEST themes are from the classic DOOM series.

X-Men and Streets of Rage MIDIs on Genesis are perpetually stuck in my head...

I learned something pretty interesting. Marty O'donnel(the man who composed the halo soundtrack for all 3 games) also wrote the "Mr. Clean" jingle and the jingle for the Flintstones Kids vitamins.

I would say that World of Warcraft has some pretty good music in some places and during some Quests. I would expect as much due to their massive amounts of funds.

My favorite, though, is the soundtrack to Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines.

Rather like the music in Mass Effect especially the end track.

I liked some of the music in Metal gear solid 4.

The last bit of the boss battles always freaked me out, so I'd play the Japanese pop song on the ipod. Instead of killing each other we all danced, good times.
