I have the standard version of Oblivion, but I downloaded the Shivering Isles expansion via Direct2Drive. Later I learned that it meant I couldn't use the OBSE. Is there any way I could get the OBSE or the mods that rely on it to work short of not using the expansion? There are some mods I'd really like to be able to use that I now can't, and I dislike having to check every mod to see if it works without the OBSE.
Is there any way around this, or any alternative to OBSE that mods which rely on it would work with? Thanks for the help.

And if I can't use OBSE because of the Direct2Drive thing, I'm pretty much screwed in terms of using those mods?
Some of them might work, but none would to their full extent as some/most scripts would be cut out, which would render some parts of the mod useless/non working. It all comes down to how much OBSE was used and in which parts of the mod. Some of the mods do offer an OBSE:less variant, but there are mods that do require OBSE to be of any use at all.

As far as I know, there are no alternaties to OBSE and their readme clearly says that it doesn't work with D2D versions.
Are you sure OBSE is not working though? As far as I know, OBSE only doesn't work if the original Oblivion is D2D. Your problem is SI being D2D.

What is this Direct 2 Drive anyway ?
From its name it sounds like you would get the game over the internet.
Isnt that an extremely bad idea in the first place ? You dont have a Game disk, meaning if you get a new PC, you cannot install that game again (or have to download it again, meaning you have to verify you are the original purchaser, that means, if you have the luck the service still exists in the first place).

Yes, it's a version you get officially on Internet. The problem is just in the ways it is encrypted and changes the original game turning it unrecognizable to almost every other application that deals with the original exe.
And add to it the issues you pointed out and anyone thinking in going for it may have a chance to think again.
