How would you retire a character if you wanted to start over with a new one?

If you've been things and seen places with your PC over a long time you don't just want to dump them (assuming you don't want to just put them on hold). So, what would be a good role-play retirement?

hmm good question if i was to retire Horus Re i would put him up in a village outside Chorrol (Raven Tower i call it) he would have his gear on display at his house the other villagers had other jobs he could just go around in the contry for food

i wouldn't retire my good character.

i would have him die heroically in some great battle, where he sacrificed himself nobly to save Tamriel...
heh. sorry if that doesn't fit in with the thread.

my evil character would probably be retired in some peaceful village and use all the money he stole, murdered or assassinated for to build a nice little house. its never to late to change.

Oh dying heroically is perfectly fine, since he could be said to live on in legend, and it does avoid the temptation to bring him back for a final final perfomance like some ageing entertainer.

It's a pity there's not the option of a Grey Havens type of thing where the hero sails off into the mist, to who knows where. It'd make an interesting mod if it could be done.
