"How many men do you have... eh.." Kin'sharion said, not knowing what the man would be addressed by.

The man kept his head down, never daring to make eye contact with any elder. "My nmae is Tarobur, a nephew of Duke Forar, the ruler of Faortinber as I am sure you already know. We have 2000 skilled warriors, and a newly constructed castle is the center of our defensive strategies. We have succesfully fended off a regiment of nearly 40 vampires." he says with uttermost confidence, yet still not looking up to meet your gaze.

Rise of the Undead is an RPG for unlimited amounts of players, it is about the war between The vampires, who wish to conquor the world and the Gaurdians, who are sworn to protect it.
Setting
On the remote Mormura archepeligo active volcanoes push life to the rare inhabitable areas of land. it is made up of four main Islands (see map) and countless secondary islands that stretch northwest - southeast past the curvature of the planet. The climate is about as diverse as the inhabitants of the archipelego, there are deserts, forests, plains and ash wastlands. But the single most feared object is The source, a huge storm a thousand miles across. It has been raging over the planet since the dawn of time and leaves only ruin it's path, whole landmasses have been destroyed by it.
The Source
The Source (as stated above) is a gigantic storm that rages over the planets surface, leaving only ruin in it's wake. Fortunately the storm moves slowely, unfortunately in the last 500 years it has crept from the high seas and over a western island of Mormura, rendering it uninhabitable. The Source gets it's name for the extreem amounts of energy that it gives off, decades after it has passed strange phenomona have been know to occur in those regions. So called mages, or sorcerors are those gifted with the ability to tap into The Source's energy and harness it for their own purposes, most commonly healing, telepathy and other psionics, elemental mastery, or necromancy.
History
Mormura has lacked a specific controlling force, but many cultures inhabit the land. War is a way of life, and as with all the world is still molding the future with every battle that is won or lost. However these wars are between tribes or fledgling kingdoms at best, the real power resides with the darker beings.
Vampires
Thousands of vampires walk the ash wastes, in preperation for the day that their invasion begins, which is drawing near. These foul creatures always apear pale, numerous scars mark their bodies as proof of their eternal life of war. The elder vampires of Mormura are even more putrid then the common, the flesh that remains on their bodies is hundreds of years old, yet will remain for hundreds more, it is a ghastly white, as the pigment has long since left it. It is dirty, and maget infested, rotting flesh is clearly visible. The vampires' origin is unknown to mortals, but most theories point to the evil gods of old who disappeared long ago. The vampires have always been at war with the ancient line of Gaurdians, or protectors. Vampires have numerous bases around Mormura, ussually underground cities, home to about a thousand Vampires.
The Gaurdians Some basic
It is the Gaurdians only who hold the ultimate knoledge, the origin of themselves and vampires. As their records say: The ancient gods, Mormuri and Taturas created all that is good and they governed their mortal lessers until about the year 15,00 after creation. This is when the evil gods Ghaldor and Felfalas' rise to power, they created all evil and battled Mormuri and Taturas for a thousand years. Both sides' power waned, and in a last hope of victory each claimed their "agents", the ones who would continue their war. These became the first of the Gaurdians, and Vampires. And so the time of the gods ended, but with her dying breath Mormuri created a land in her name that would reflect her divine beauty forever. And Felfalas with his dying breath, created The Source to forever leave a symbol of his power and malice. The Gaurdians resemble the vampires in many ways, their intolerability of sunlight being one resemblence. When not suited for war in their dark armor Gaurdian's dress in black robes, hoods drawn up to conceal their yellow eyes in shadow. Gaurdians are based in an extinct volcano on a northern island, a huge towering spire is at it's top. Gaurdian's always apear putrid, as their centuries old flesh is wrapped tightly to their muscels.
Power
Vampires draw their power from The Source, they hold supreme mastery over the supernatural and have the ability to climb up vertical surfaces, no matter how smooth, and can comunicate telepathically to other Vampires. However, for this mastery to be effective it must be fueled with blood, along with their immortality. Vampires also possess uncanny speed, and the ability to jump very high if they are "well fed".
Gaurdians also draw their power from The Source, despite their good intentions. Through that power they hold supreme mastery over wisdom, intelligence and the art of weilding a sword.
Weaponry
Vampires typically use natural weapons, such as their razor sharp claws that extend a full inch from the tips of their fingers or their sharp, infection spreading teeth. Otherwise bows, and short blades are used, Vampires wear only light armor, often chain, depending on their super-human speed and agility for defence.
Gaurdians are masters of the Bastard Sword, lightening reflexes and strength make them the death of any mortal who would try to kill one. Heavy armor, the color of night is donned when battle calls, plated and often spiked metal pervide portection. Other weapons used by them are bows and spears, In the front line of an army specially trained two person spears are extended out 20 feet or more. These warriors are known as pikemen, once their innitial charge is over the spears are abandoned and the pikemen draw their swords.
few, that was a lot of info, and there is still a lot more...
Characters
In this RPG you will either play as a Vampire, or a Gaurdian, believe me they are balanced. I will not have control over who wins this war, however, as the DM I will shape the storyline and provide challenges for both sides seperatly as you wage your war.
Your character sheet will look like this:
Name: Sex: (Gaurdians are male only) (Vampire or Gaurdian) Favored Weapon: (Other than sword for Gaurdians) Special Attribute: (Speed, Strength, Agility etc. you are immortal remember, you get this on top of your race attributes i.e. Vampires are agile and fast, Gaurdians are intelligent and strong) Description: (make sure to include what you wear in here) Profession: (if you say your a smith you can make armor/weapons etc.)
Rules
1. You can control fighting with standard NPC's such as any mortal enemy or Vampire/Gaurdian but be realistic. 2.PC fighting is most definately allowed, make your move and leave it open for a reaction. (feel free to say you strike them and inflict an injury because it will take alot to kill either one of you) 3. Don't skip ahead, such as say you sleep for a few hours, instead say you go to sleep and let events go on then say you wake up later, I will do all "one hour later" deals 4. Don't worry about describing weather or scenery because I will porvide that for you, but feel free to be descriptive, just know what your talking about and be accurate to what i have said. 5. Limited magic is allowed, but follow the "powers" given to you above
That is it, I will start up when there is a lot of people, this RPG is for unlimited amounts!! All other details will be given to you in the RPG thread through the plot and storyline. Go ahead and sign up if you have gotten this far
Concept Art check back here regularly for the newest pictures... Official concept art is drawn by me, and Unnoficial is drawn by my players |
hey, hope this is mildly useful!!

"It is only sad that you will not be of more help," Kin'sharion said resurringly, trying to get the man to relax a bit, "Tarobur.. Do you have a title in your county, Tarobur? General perhaps? Unless you prefer that I adress you by name.."
OOC: It would be good if I got some insight one the terrian surrounding the place.. Having lived a long time and fought nearly everywhere in the world, you would think he would already know what kind of climate, terrain, etc would be on or around the place we will be defending.
Also, now is the time to throw out the numbers. How many people are we working with?

"no, i am barely an ambassador to your kind, Kin' sharion... It is out of the generosity of my uncle that I am in any position of importance."
the boys gaze lifts nearly to eye contact with you for a moment but he releases a hushed gasp and lowers it once more. You see though, that he is a young boy, naught 15 and stuttering from nervousness. he has light brown hair, and fair skin, typical of that area due to the cold temperature and moderate sunshine.

Kin'sharion was almost shocked by the boy's young age.. But then it would take more then a mere boy to make him look twice. He realised that he must cut a devastatingly imposing figure to one so young, and decided to take a seat before continuing. When he was seated, he motioned for the others to do the same, and then spoke, "Tell me, sir, how many men of the original 2000 survived the assult of the vampires?"
OOC: Still waiting on terrain info MDRud216, once I have that I'll turn the conversation more towards the castle and planning its defense.. And how many men I will need to take with me... Also, any information from scouts regarding the movement and numbers of the Vampire armies would be a great help, though I do not expect to have everything at the ready. If there is more I require, then I will tell you.

Faortinber, and the surrounding countryside...
Faortinber is a large and elegant city constructed almost entirely of stone... it covers around 2 square miles of terrain and a the River Danok runs through its center, winding its way through the city. The river is bridged once by a large stone bridge and ferrying is available elsewhere along the rivers shores. On some stretches the rivers shore consists of a stone retaining wall (think balmora's river). At its widest point the river is 75 feet across and is its smallest near the northern end of the city at 45 feet across. For the most part The city of faortinber is level but the northeastern area is on a fairly high slope, at the top of which is Castle Forar, named for the noble: duke Forar.
The castles outer walls are 6 feet thick and 60 feet high, on all four corners are defensive towers with their tops 20 feet higher than the top of the wall. 40 feet inward is a smaller inner wall that is a mere 30 feet high and 3 feet thick... only a narrow 5 foot wide stair behind the inner wall seperates it from the keep. the stairs go from ground level and gradually spiral around the keep to its entrance on the sencond floor. the keeps walls are 7 feet thick and the structure is 3 storys high... at its top is room for many archers and a raised heavily protected platform for generals to oversee seiges if that day should come, or training exercises that regularly take place atop the keep. Finally a 30 foot tower sits in the very center atop the keep, and holds the stairs that leads to the roof. all walls have a corrulated top, as well as the tops of all four outer towers and the keeps tower.
A forty foot high wall encircles most of the city, built of stone the wall is five and a half feet thick. The main gate into the city is heavily gaurded, and anyone entering must go through a tunnel with an iron gate at both ends (think ghost gate). Holes in the ceiling of this portcullis allow gaurds to dump boiling water or other liquids onto any unwanted guests. several other smaller gates exist on the cardinal directions but lack a portcullis.
Farmland surrounds Faortinber and follows the river to the north and south, the primary crops are corn and wheat. Due to this several bridged irrigation channels suround the city outside its wall, some hidden within the corn feilds. The area's terrain consists of a cool temperate plain and a few miles to the south decidous forest lies and the river disapears into it.

Elratha and Makura heard the voice of Kin'sharion as they reached the main gate of Mt. Tatu. Elratha felt as if what he said had been a premonition of the conversation to come. The two walked silently through the gate and they made their way up the mountain. It would be some time before they came to the chambers of the Elders.
They reached the door of Kin'sharion's chambers after a short while. Elratha let Kin'sharion know they were there, without reaching out to knock at the door.

Idlely, Kin'sharion responded to the two Guardians outside his chambers, I am in the council hall, tell me when you arrive, and I shall meet with you. The information you have maybe of great use to us in deciding our next move... The man before him was still not visibly calming to his liking, and he began to think the boy never would. He sat in thought for a long moment, his head bowed, eyes closed, hands clasped before him as he leaned forward and supported his weight on the table.
Then his head snapped up, eyes open, "Tarobur, go home, tell them we are coming, and to have their men blockade your city with your best defenses. When we arrive we will need several things, canvas soaked in water for three days so that it is throughly saturated, pitch, torches, black dye that doesn't irritate the skin, and several large vats. Get them in as large a quantity as you possibly can, and rally as many men as possible; especially rangers and woodfolk. I am going to need some competant and stealthy men to aid me in this, and I expect you to oversee everything. Have it prepared efore we arrive, we shall leave soon."
With that he stood, turning to the elders. The words came from his mouth at the same time as they poured into the minds of the elders. "Tell them," he bellowed, "THE GAURDIANS ARE GOING TO WAR!"

thankyou for digging us out of that sinkhole shadow.
The eldest looks at kin deeply, his gaze peircing the flesh and entering his mind. These wounds will not heal kin' Sharion, maybe, If i was younger, but I will not be able to go to war. I shall join you only in spirit..
ooc: if its okay I am gonna move the vampires along now
Several other bloodlines joined with Xiton before the woods were behind them and they ventured out onto the open plain, heading for the sea. To the south was the great mortal city of Tharivor, but none strayed away to visit it, for no cover was available out on the plains. During the night they ran like horses to clear the distance, and during the day heavy travel stained, and blood stained sheets of leather and many layers of linen were strung over the heads of the important vampires, the new arrivals had to cope with the buring fire upon their skin, many had died by the time Xiton set foot on the vampiric ship that would carry him to Mormuri.

Ulid brought his head back up from over the railing of the boat. He wiped bile of his mouth with the back of his hand. The gentle rolling of the boat made him feel quesy all over again, and he quickly bent his head back over. After his head came back up,he muttered " I hate boats...". He steped queasily across the deck, not at all in his regular deadly grace. He eyed Volrath with a wicked grin, knowing that he provided an example that any sort of power was precarious in the Vampire society. He considered gloating, but Ulid was not sure whether he could open his mouth without something besides speech coming out. He wandered about deck, truly bored with the sea. He spotted Xiton going into his cabin, and scolwed at his back. The pace he set had taken a toll on the total numbers of the vampires. He eyed the moon lazily, thinking of the fun he would soon have. Another reason why Ulid didn't like the sea hit him. The sea air washes away all scents. Fear, power, greed. Too him, every vampire became alike.

The sails had ripped, many times... Xiton was now on his third boat, his previous two being slowely buried in sediment on the sea floor. It was a massive storm that had swept across the seas two nights before, no casulties but boats which left several of the remaining ones crowded with wet vampires. In a day or so the cattle would run out, hundreds of bodies already littered the sea for miles in the wake of the vampire fleet. It would not be hard for someone daring to follow their corpse- marked path.
Thousandsof miles to the north and east The mighty Kin' Sharion had once again reminded the inhabitants of his status: General. The forges were heated and hundreds of Gaurdains oversaw the crafting of their most sacred weapon, the ones they would soon use to cleave the heads of the Undead. (take it Shadow)

OOC: Damn straight.
IC:
"How is progress, Gerralius?"
"Excellent, Elder, things are progressing ahead of schedule."
Kin'sharion glanced at his Senior Officer in charge of equipment, "very good, how soon will we be ready to leave?"
"We are still estimating, but as far as we know, things will be ready sooner then we expected."
"Good, I trust everyone else is prepared?"
"Your cabinet has already loaded their belongings onto the ships, and will be ready to set sail soon. Is there something else you wish?"
"Hmm..." Kin'sharion had to ponder the question for a time, "not in particular, see that training is ended today, as planned, and the Guardians get everything loaded onto the boats as it is made ready. I want to be on my way there as soon as every Guardian is properly equiped."
"Yes, m'lord, it shall be as you say."
Kin'sharion was surprised they hadn't already finnished at the rate they were moving, but he was more surprised to learn that some of his Gaurdians had been ill equiped for battle... Newer genorations, it seems, are a bit sluggish on the draw. They needed a bit more motivation at times. War was motivation enough, as far as he was concerned.
Still, his mind wandered to other things, their battle plans were a bit incomprehensive as it stood, something few Gaurdains of his level could bear. Yet, he liked to see what was really there before he fully decided his battle plans. He had still heard no word on the preparations at their destination, but he was hopefull that the humans could accomplish things in a timely manner. Their survival depended on it.
Apparently, the number of enemy vampires had been bolstered recently, an incentive for the tactic he was planning to use. Kin'sharion chuckled as he thought about it. He was rather surprised that he hadn't thought of something so simple before, but it would have made little difference. Often, the vampires would fall for the same tactic twice simply because of their lack of orginization and their insolence. As much as they would deny it, they relied on wieght of numbers more than anything else, and a well planned strategey could force them on the defensive, and eventually into dead retreat.
His mind wandered back to the present. With a sigh he looked back out over the balcony at the forges below. Guardians covered every inch of a gargantuan room, set evenly with blazing forges that the worlds finest blacksmiths used day in and day out. Like clockwork, they produced weapons that could split a hair on a mans head down to the scalp, while outside they trained warriors that could do just that and stop on a dime, leaving the the scalp itself untouched. Yes... The Gaurdians were indeed the greatest warriors the world had ever known...

A long caravan now wound its way through the ashy mountains, many had already arrived at the shores, yet many had yet to leave. From above it would have seemed an endless black snake making its way from the mountain's huge gate to the shores were it dispersed along the shore. It would take hundreds of ships to get the Gaurdian army to Faortinber.

OOC: So convenient to pin it on me, eh? Alright.
Hmm... As for numbers, I have forgotten what the estimate of the Vampire army was, but if they have, say, 30,000 men... I will take 20,000. 60,000; 40,000... In short, 2/3 of whatever the vampire army has, or the maximum I can take as far as that goes. I would leave no less then 5,000 at the keep, BARE MINIMUM, but there is going to be less then 10,000 or so remaining, based on the 2/3 rule, then let me know and I will adjust accordingly.
As for strategy, I am going to fortify myself using the town and the castle. I'll send you the details on that via PM.
