Not far from where I live, I wandered around in a city (Kortrijk) for those who know it. And I suddenly passed a bookstore and there was publicity for BalmoraL.
It appeared to be a tobacco brand.
Now I wonder if the makers of Elder Scrolls 3 just ripped the name off?

Anyone who has seen other things like this?

Actually it is the name of the royal palace in Scotland where the Queen spends Christmas and other periods of retreat. It is near the village of Easter Balmoral, though which came first I have no idea.

No doubt the tobacco brand took its name from that.

I find the name Pelagiad more interesting. Does it come from the monk Pelagius whose followers were called Pelagians? Or is from pelagic/pelagian meaning oceanic etc?

Caldera also has something to do with volcanos, it's where the heat comes up from it, sort of the cone part of it. I wonder if all the town names have something to do with the real world? tongue.gif

I doubt it... who's ever seen anything related to Ald Rhun in the real world?

Besides, BALMORA in the Morrowind language has a precise meaning,
as it means "stone forest". Ald Ruhn means "Old home", I think. Any resemblance
to real-life names is probably just a coincidence.

Most of the Dunmer names actually have a meaning...for example, Balmora is 'Stonewood.'

Ald-Ruhn is 'Old Hearth.'

Sadrith Mora is 'Forest of the Mushrooms.'

The 'Tel' Prefix in the Telvanni towns means 'tower.'

Most of the names of the Daedric ruins and Ashlander camps are of ancient Assyrian origin.

Here's a site explaining most of the Atmoran and Elven words.
