Despite what you may think banning is a last resort action required to maintain the quality and enjoyment that other users expect when signing onto this site. Infringement of our TOS results in a loss of that account.

Your friend will just have to get over it.

EDIT: Well, what a surprise (not really) you and Venom74 have the same IP address.

Good job bringing that to my attention. thumbsup.gif

Moderator pointed to this thread then describes banning as a 'last resort'. What other options were explored to control this outrage against nazi promotion? Sure it's quality. What then of it's offensiveness. The banning that took place against what was known to occur after nazi promotion was a mirror of the carpet bombing strategy the nazi's often supplied. Is it easy to understand how the rating system works here so much that hating nazi's is considered grounds for banning?

How about this suggestion for moderators. Actually treat banning as a last resort. You could have recognized there was alot of frustration over the content, suspended the 'offenders' votes, and made it clear how the rules are content agnostic. Perhaps then when repeat offenders of hate votes occur would the 'last resort' be taken.

Or you could punish a passionate community. Okay.

People are reminded that moderator actions are not open to public discussion and if people have problems they should contact me directly. Why? Because moderators are humans and volunteers who give their good time to help keep this community running smoothly. They don't need this crap aired in the open for people who don't really know the full story to discuss to pieces.

Ratings and comments in the file database/image share are now given zero tolerance, as explained in the ToS page that comes up, that everyone has to agree to in order for them to actually rate or comment on files or images. Why was this done? It was done because most people using the file and image comments aren't forum users, they're just site users. They don't check their PMs and they rarely revist the actual files/images they've rated or posted to see what has happened since. Ergo there's no way for a moderator to inform users that they are doing something wrong. To sort this a new ToS is shown to all users, past, present and new (even myself) that has to be agreed to before the rating and commenting system can be used. That's their warning.

The actual file in question already had a lot of moderator interaction, with Buddah posting up the ToS and our policy on censorship in the comments themselves, as well as in the site news. As such, users have had ample warning of what we want and what we don't want, and what happens when we get what we don't want. It's very, very, clear.
