Full Version: More BASTARD!! / Hagiwara-inspired gear?

G'day, first post on the suggestions forum.

I was perusing the forums for additional armor and gear - a good modicum of diversity is always nice - and then I recognized a familiar outfit.

Holy Ultra Jump, it's Porno (actually, it's Polno because of a heavy metal injoke, but still...) Diano! Or rather, her suit. blink.gif

It was a pleasant surprise for a longtime reader of Kazushi Hagiwara's fantasy epic, Bastard!! (the title references the main character, who is by far most arrogant, self-conceited, overpowered and yet funny wizard ever in Eastern comicdom).

Bravo! It's a very intricate outfit, despite the skimpy appearance, hence I'm assured it took a lot of work.

It also prompts a suggestion or two: there are several nice costume designs through the series, since the title character alone goes through so many outfits (they tend to get vaporized, and the fact he is naked half the time helped to gather a sizeable female fandom: fan service isn't exclusively male-oriented here).

Battle armors, suits, dresses, sans or with capes... ranging from human warriors and mages to angels and devils (Asmodeus and Beelzebub surely know how to dress up and look scary), and of course that tall glass o' wizard / loveable scoundrel himself, Dark Schneider.

I'd say the Oblivion community has both the skill and the creativity to try and capture some of that visual flair. (hint, hint)

Thanks in advance for listening! thumbsup.gif

OMG! We must definitely have the fan-service-for-girls -bastard outfit blink.gif! It's inevitable tongue.gif (actually it could be rather interesting inside joke to have a bastard-nude-muscle-suit as a hidden artifact. Should the muscle suit be shaded the same way the character is at the stories?).

Well, D.S. is kind of a showoff anyway. laugh.gif
I guess Robert's mods would do, actually, but the extremely chiseled look (moreover, he's around 1.92 meters tall, if I remember correctly) he sports is most certainly a challenge to experienced designers/modders around here.

That said, I'd say costumes and accessories (weapons included, eventually) are probably the best bet first. The Efreeti sword, or Nue/Thunder Sword among others, a few outfits Schneider wears through volumes 15-21... there's really lots of stuff, even not mentioning weirdness such as Abigail Crystal Power (that was one of the most hilarious moments, right in the middle of doom!) and good ol' Gara attempting Shoryuken.

For the female characters, I'd recommend Arshes Nei's outfits for the beautiful linearity/simplicity of some things she's worn. More elaborate choices would probably feature some of the attires Yoko has put on later in the manga, a few armors used by Kai Harn, and a few of the supernatural characters.

Costumes such as the Jugulator suit or the Majin mode "costume" would be quite difficult to pull out, I think, at least if you're going low-poly.

Also, the much needed reality check:
Kazushi Hagiwara/Studio Loud's official site

See Gallery page #2 and follow-ups, though the Bakuen Campus Guardress artwork is also classic (however, it would arguably fit more anachronistic mods in Oblivion).

And there's quite a bit of stuff usable for reference all over the web, besides.

Color spread with Gara, Nei, Sean Hari and Kai Harn
Gara's outfit looks good on him despite the relative simplicity. Sean's probably going through an odd diet though (guess Inoue Takuya helped Hagi with the finishing touches).

D.S. and Yoko mousepad
Aww.

Double spread for one of the various B!! novels
Huge, gorgeous, and LOTS of characters. See young Nei and Kall.

First Uriel appearance
A really good costume. Got even better afterwards, though.

Dark Schneider protecting child Arshes Nei and Kall Su
Actually, carrying them around... poor orcs, anyway!

Costume from the fight with Anthrasax
Badass.

Cover for volume 25
D.S. and Yoko again. Nice colors and composition.
