Looks pretty awesome, but wouldn't work as a Scythe. It's too ornate. It would be great as a staff.

wow, i like that !, would be awsome as a staff but also as a scythe...nan,,,a staff...maybe a scythe....well up to the modders...lol

Well, considering there is already
This and
This, I think it is manageable as a scythe. Just need someone to make the designs in question as a mod.

I actually saw this yesterday, and I like it.
Since no one has said they are willing to do it, I will.
If someone has secretly started this, speak up here... or send me a pm.
In the pics BobSob2020 linked to, those scythes look like they were designed as a two handed sword. I'll build both versions, one as a staff and one as a sythe, and check them out. If they both work ok, I'll release both versions, in one mod. If I run into trouble, I'll give the meshes and textures to someone with more experience to finish them up.
May take me two or three days, depends what comes up in rl.

No problem, trebor_armbreaker...
I have already started. By the way, this is an excellent pic to work from. In my opinion, it strikes me more as a staff, than a scythe, so that's where I've started.

Nov 5 2008, 07:54 PM
can it be made as a blunt weapon also? it would give me a reason to train blunt as aposed to running around killing guards with a claymore

not to add more work to the load once again i thank you for taking the time to make this

you truly have made my day
DavidWhitefang

I believe that pretty much anything can be made anything... so yes, it could be made into a blunt weapon... but as the pic looks at the moment, to me it would not be realistic. I think it would splinter and break if you continually used it as a blunt weapon, unless it was modified.
If I was going to make it something else... I think a smaller version could easily be turned into a Kama (a martial arts weapon... you can google search it if you aren't sure what I'm referring to), but it would still need a little tweaking from the original staff.

I'm really sorry for getting off topic (sorta) but seeing that picture REALLY makes me wish I was better at modeling. First reaper9111 releases the drawing of his sword which I utterly failed at even resembling, and now this wicked looking staff (at least that's what I would make it). There's just too many things to learn at once being a stand-alone modder. Scripting, Texturing, Modeling, Thinking, Modeling... eh, said that twice, ah well.

Hey reaper9111,
I am working on it, and it's coming along pretty good I think. This one is complex, and it is taking me longer than I anticipated. I am slow, at modding anyway... lol, but I think the finished product will please most members. I'm enjoying making it, and have thought of some other interesting uses, for a design such as this.

I finished the mesh, and left the chains off so far. they look cool in the pic, but they will add a tremendous amount of vertices, which may cause lag. I have tried it out in the game, and it works nicely ~ I have no lag.
Here are some
pics I posted 5 pics.
I have not textered the staff yet, I'll be working on that now.
I just wanted to show you that I have been working on it.

This weapon was an original concept piece submitted by Li Li for the game Guild Wars.
so you might want to correctly name the original artist when you put this up on the site.
maybe: suggested by trebor_armbreaker, concept by Li Li, and created by David Whitefang

Nov 11 2008, 09:32 PM
o and for the chains, you can use the ones that dangle in the arena on it cant you?
just use the CS to take them out and then add them to the weapon? i think that might work
DavidWhitefang
Nov 11 2008, 10:12 PM
Hey Natsu666,
I noticed the original pic was signed by Lily. I sent you a pm with some questions.
As far as the chains, I don't have a problem building them, I am just concerned about a high concentration of polygons on the staff, causing alot of lag for some people. Right now, I am going to finish it without the chains. I may then add the chains, and test it out, as far as lag.
ihateregisteringeverywhere
Nov 11 2008, 10:38 PM
You could either build the chains per normal, which I guess you could do with down to 22 poly's a chain link or simply create them out of two sided single poly planes with a transparent texture.
However I gave the chains some thought myself and I probably wouldn't include them either. Not because of the polycount though (frostmourne=15k polygons, works fine for me), but because static chains would look weird on a moving item.
What's your polycount thus far anyway?
DavidWhitefang
Nov 11 2008, 11:37 PM
Hey ihateregisteringeverywhere,
the face count is 9222, using 4633 vertices. I agree about the chains not looking good, if they don't have physics, and had pm'd trebor_armbreaker about it.
I never have tried to figure that out yet. Actually the first weapon I ever built, was a morning star (spiked ball on a chain, for those who may not know), but I've let it sit in blender until I learn more, and can possibly make it really swing with character movement. I'll get back to it... I have different types of mods in the works at once, so I don't get bored working on the same thing everyday.
ihateregisteringeverywhere
Nov 12 2008, 12:08 AM
That's alot especialy if those faces are quads, it'll double after the export breaks it down into tri's.
Then again the model's realy complicated I'd probably vaste over 1500 tri's on the teeth alone.
Anyway, I say scrap the chains

Make it as a staff and sword (in the same item). See "Firing Swords" topic.

Please. And (if it's not too much to ask) a quest for it. The problem I have with many weapon mods is that they tend to just plonk them in the IC market district.

Triforce1's planing on including the staff in our mod, so you'll have a quest to get it - if you feel like waiting that long.
You'd get it after one of the scripted giant monster boss encounters.

I am not releasing this as a modders resource.
It will be a new weapon for members to use in their games if they choose.
I answered this post to build a staff or a sword. I chose staff.
I will release different versions, including a scythe, and possibly a club.
In the future, I may do more with this mesh, I've thought of moddifying it into a helm also.
Wasder... I read 'firing swords' before and believe someone else will help you out.
ihateregisteringeverywhere... I never got back with TriForce1... So I don't know how your speaking for him. You seem to give alot of advice on modding... I've searched a few times for your mods... and no matter how I search Oblivion or Morrowind, You don't seem to have any. Did you release any previously under a different account? ~ I am actually interested in seeing your work, so that I may study one of the quests that you must have released, since surely none of your mods are in the 'junk dump district'
This release will go into the IC Market District now. I can't agree on disrespecting modders, who spent thier personal time creating great mods for all of us, and decided to place their mod in the IC Market District.
At this time I'm still creating the .dds and UV mapping it, as I go.

In that case I'm verry sorry for posting wrong information. I only talked about it with Triforce1 briefly and badly assumpted that you two have agreed on it allready.
My fault.
Anyway, Triforce1 did want it alot in our mod.
So I made it myself.
Click to view attachmentClick to view attachmentTook some creative liberties with it. It's 9k tri's, but there's alot of overpoly on the bandages that I'll have to fix later.
I will also release it as a playable modders resource, one plugin with in a normal version and another one in an obse version that'll let you change the type of the weapon in a context menu.
Yes, I'm a modder. However I only started a few months ago - imideately on a large scale mod. Which doesn't leave much space for smaller projects, however I did create a black lightsabre resource and I'm working on equiptable undies and emulated water.
And lastly, "junk dump district" wasn't meant to be derogative, merely funny. I placed my black lightsabre there as well. You're just trying to find points in my posts that you can feel offended at. That's not good sport and I most certainly won't fall for your attempts at victimization.

I watched the new Iron Man movie the other day. I didn't particularly like it, it seemed long, boring and drawn out. Most of the best scenes were in the tailors that were released and blasted all over the TV, so I felt like I had already seen the best parts. I can criticize the movie but to be honest, I don't know anything about making movies so for me to go to a director like Spielberg and tell him how to do his job is ridiculous. Too nitpick his work to the point of offending him would be idiotic.
Another modder is lost from the list of those who are willing to share their expertise, hard work, time, sweat and love of the game and of modding because of the inability of those who are receiving the benefit of that work to simply be grateful.
David Whitefang Owed you nothing. He didn't need to explain himself, he offered to help and he was insulted and badgered into giving up his project. The rude behavior of certain people has cost the modding community another talent and we will all feel the loss.

I have to agree with you on this, I also learned some valuable lessons concerning requests.
#1. No matter what, the item you create will somehow not live up to the imagination of the requester and passers by. Some people realize this when they initially make the request, others do not which is why the 'ol saying of "If you think you can do better, then do it yourself" or "If you want it done right, do it yourself" is timeless wisdom.
#2. Always mod for yourself and "hopefully" others will appreciate what you have done but also know that anytime you are in the public eye, you also attract those with limited manners and maturity. Just comes with the territory.
#3. Do not give estimated dates of delivery. It sets a level of expectation which is not necessary if you are not getting paid for services rendered. Communicating very little other than re-assuring that you are working on it is usually the best coarse of action unless you want to invite others (usually more than one) to act like your micro-manager and asking / telling you how the mod should be implemented. I found out the hard way that giving details was actually a bad thing to do which was counter-intuitive to my upbringing and work ethic. Public modding is just a different animal.
#4. Doing requests for others is a nice way to get started if you are lacking ideas and projects but keep in mind that over time, you will want to do more and more of your own work and will need to taper-down the amount of requests you can take on. I have actually been saturated to the point of not being able to take on requests even if it is something I want to do. My modding time is quite limited and by the time I start to get into the swing of things, I have to stop which is quite annoying.

I'll stop here before this turns into a book that rivals War and Peace.

key words right there. I've stated before that I mod for myself for my game, not for praise or laurels. Then I release stuff so others may enjoy it. Unfortunately there will always be some who you can never satisfy.
Learn to mod then people like David who does excellent work, won't be offended.
I'll do a request for a friend...no one else!
