I'm a n00b, obviously, on this forum. This question has likely been asked several billion times, but... how the heck do I prevent the editor from freezing up all the time?? I can't make a single thing because I always lose everything.

Also, what program do yuo use to make new skins, textures, etc.? How would I apply it to a model and make an item with it?

I do not fully know the answer to your second question, but I may be able to help you with the first…

In the preferences/settings menu, there is a slider that controls view distance. Set it to a lower level and that should help. It also helps if you close other programs when you’re working in there. I have to go, but if you have further questions, please PM me.

With 3dmax you can create and change textures and models. To use ingame textures/models, put yer TES CS CD into the CD-ROM and browse through there, you can also save the TES CS CD files onto your harddrive so you don't gotta switch back and fourth through your CD's.

Last I checked 3dmax was freeware, but that was a long time ago. As for converting the files into the MW format, I don't know if 3dmax does that or what, can't help ya there as I have yet to play with textures.

3dsmax is the only program that has NIF importer plugin, but it's not freeware, actually, it's approximately 3000$, or 800$ if you're a student and won't use it to earn money. For textures you can use Photoshop.
