Been a while since we've had any art around here... So, my latest project. 99% modeling finished, going to do the textures tonight. Almost a quarter million polys worth of detail on this one.

This contest, and of course my own personal satisfaction at making it. Oh, and just for laughs, here's this ship almost two years ago when I first started doing 3d modeling. Suprisingly, a few lines from the original model still exist.

.....

someone pass me a tissue....if you don't know why then try not to think about it too much.
That's a huge improvement from the beginning ACAD model you did in Mr. Satterwhite's class. Ah the memories. Can't wait to see it textured.

That's freaking awesome.
A bit OT, but would you recommend Gmax, since it's free?

It's free. That's all I can say for it. There's no renderer, export formats are limited, and a lot of the tools are missing. If you want a bit of practice before you buy 3dsmax, it's almost a decent idea. Otherwise, there are much better free programs out there.

Hmm, the older model appears to be similar to a z-95 Headhunter...
am I correct?

Nope. They're the exact same ship, just one's got two years of experience behind it and the other has about two weeks. The new one's build on the old one... all the basic hull shapes are the exact same thing.

great job so far. are you going to post the finised work once it is done? And you got me wondering, what other free programs like 3dmax are out there? My funds are non-exsistant, and are most likely to remaine that way for some time so there is no way i will be able to get 3dmax anytime soon

WOW! I never saw one of your models before, I knew you knew a lot about 3DsMax but I had no idea you where so good. I must say I'm inspired.

Regardless the lateness of this post, I hope it does not count as necromancy... normally a thread that has been inactive for a few days I simply read, and don't bother posting... But Peregrine, I must say, you have some crazy good skill... I would love to see more of your work, you should create a website portfolio or something! Keep up the excellent work!
