Full Version: So what are you playing at the moment

I gave Oblivion a break to play Spore for a while. That didn't keep me occupied as long as I'd hoped.

So, I bought "The Witcher" since Dark One had mentioned it and it looked interesting. I'm enjoying that.

Tomorrow "Dead Space" arrives and next month a mini-expansion to "Sins of a Solar Empire" which I thoroughly enjoy.

After those I shall probably wake Lord Michlo up again. smile.gif

Cheers.

I just finished Deus Ex and Deus Ex 2. Good games. The sequel felt a bit nonsensical though. And I hear the developers will work on a third instalment so at least I'm ready.

System Shock 2 is the game of the moment for me. What can I say? Love the classics.

Hmm, I vaguely recall playing System Shock 1 and enjoying it. I hadn't looked at the sequel so I may have to do that, thanks. smile.gif

I'll also take a look at the Deus Ex games.

Cheers.

I actually didn't play the first System Shock, I'm embarrassed to admit, and I haven't been able to find it anywhere. Bioshock put me on to the series so I'm surprised and delighted to see the previous incarnation so full of depth and customisation in many ways superior to the later game! Very fun and interesting so far.

Hope you have fun with all three whenever you play them. thumbsup.gif

The Deus Ex games are kind of hard to find on PC these days, but well worth the search. I remember reading that the first one was "...more a work of art and should not be looked upon as just a video game..." I fully agree with the article.

RTS's seem to get most of my time these days: Company of Heroes - Opposing Fronts, Supreme Commander - Forged Alliance, Command & Conquer 3 - Kane's Wrath.

Is there some rule that RTS games must have insanely long names?

Star Wars Total Annihilation

Michlo
hehe, thanks for the replies.

I too love RTS games and yes, it does seem as though they love their long titles of late. I still pop into Warhammer 40k, Dawn of War now and then and as I said, Sins of a Solar Empire.

I took a quick look at www.direct2drive.com for the Deus series and only find these: http://www.direct2drive.com/Search.aspx?SearchTerm=deus

Is that 1 and 2?

That looks like fun, Hammonds. I enjoyed the previous one (I think), was it Star Wars Battlegrounds?

Cheers.

The "official" game was called Galactic Battlegrounds and yes, I loved playing that. Worked quite well on a laptop during long flights (kept my mind off the trip...mostly).

While this game engine was being designed, the makers made it compatible with Total Annihilation units and it was called TA Spring. That was the reason I first tried it out. Now they have all kinds of variant games other than the TA game. Oh, the Star Wars items in the picture were initially for Total Annihilation as a mod pack (called SWTA) which translated nicely to the new graphics engine to give it a great make-over.

i still got Galatic Battlegrounds upstairs!

Well currently I am not playing anything cause I am making a game.
Although when I have spare time I play Neverwinter Nights 2!!!
X DLC X
Playing Warhammer Online; The Age of Reckoning, although currently playing runescape(YES, runescape...) while waiting for a new patch to the actual game I'm interested on. One class(Bitchelf[->Witchelf] anyone?), on the Destruction side(Playing on Order side myself.), is able to kill any other class in the game under 3 seconds, which is enough time for me to target him and die before being able to attack, while playing as a >tank< class, that's what I call f'ed up. Buff their survivability, give a heavy nerfbat hit to dps, if not, I'm moving over to Vanguard.

Hmm, I also gave Oblivion a break(but for longer time, I 1st want to finish my own mods...)
I played Half Life 2 & Ep. 1 & 2 and really enjoyed it. I also finished Portal and Portal Prelude.

So now, I'm playing Tomb Raider Anniversary which really surprised me, I thought after the extremely bad 3rd and 4th part, I wouldn't touch TB anymore, but Legend and Anniversary were to interesting to pass on them.

Also, and you propably can guess, I'm playing Team Fortress 2 which is so fun, I really like it. I actually thought that I would be a good sniper. But now I'm a Medic and from the look of things, not bad at all(at 1st I thought that I would be the worst medic ever...).

Dead Space is also interesting, but I will wait untill I can get it cheaper from ebay. Also, I want to play it patched.
Wrath_Of_Deadguy01
Fallout 1 & 2, in preparation for you-know-what. TF2 and my glorious flamethrower are taking a break for a while. biggrin.gif

As an update - I've been thoroughly enjoying Dead Space this weekend. I left it for the evening as it is definitely a very atmospheric, creepy game (I continued with The Witcher for whatever play time I had in the day). The controls take a few moments to get used to and have caused some rather heated posts on their official forums but I had no difficulties.

Cheers.

Dead Space, huh? I've heard nothing about it besides a recommendation from a close friend. How is she? Though I suppose it can't be too bad at the 'thoroughly enjoyable' level.

System Shock 2 nears completion and so I've decided to break down and buy Fallout 3. I'd decided against it initially based in part on the 'Oblivion with guns' argument, but now I need an expansive game to dull the disappointment associated with KOTOR 3's burial under mmo decadence. Single-player RPGs are a good thing.

Yup, thoroughly enjoyable. hehe

The graphics are just gorgeous. Things like the pop-up video screens when you are getting a message which you can actually pan around, the pop-up map, same deal. There really is no UI as it is built into your suit and I just love that, very clever. There is enough story to be interesting and of course, it is spooky. Some of it seems a little dumbed down and then the next minute you'll find yourself with a challenge.

Last night I had to make my way through a filtration system which consisted of me having to get through tubes of rapidly venting flame/exhaust. I swear I could almost FEEL the flames.

As a feller whose first ever video was what they called back in England "a video nasty" thanks to my best mate's dad owning one of the first video stores.... it takes a lot to make me jump. This game has twice already. heh. It is definitely best played in a darkened room with the volume up.

I must admit, despite it being published by the hated and evil EA, I have to highly recommend this game.

As for Fallout 3, I never played the first two and it still isn't appealing to me for some reason. Perhaps I'll take a look down the road.

Cheers.

Lately I've been playing Far Cry 2, awesome game in my opinion, one of my favorites next to Oblivion and several others.

Very, very true. The 1st Deus Ex is nothing short of spectacular(it's actually my single all-time favorite title). Unfortunately most kids these days aren't (dare I say it) intelligent enough to recognize its strong points, and would simply bi*** about the out-dated graphics. But if you're a Sci-fi fan the way I am, then you should have fun with Star Wars: Empire at War. It's got a pretty good expansion and there are some very interesting mods available for it too.

But as for the topic at hand, I'm working my way through the new Storm of Zehir expansion pack for Neverwinter Nights 2. So far it isn't rockin' my socks off, but i'm only about an hour into it, so it isn't really fair to judge at this point.

You better "like it" if you're playing Bloodlines - it is the best game ever made. Anyways, getting back on topic, I am playing Left 4 Dead, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, Fallout 3, Half Life, Culpa Innata, SiN Episodes, Sins of a Solar Empire, The Witcher, Clive Barker's Jericho, Far Cry, Far Cry 2, Tomb Raider: Legend, and Tomb Raider: Underworld. whistling.gif
