i've started playing baldur's gate 2 again for the thousandth time. and i was wondering if anyone here has played the entire series.if you have. what did you like and not like about it?

The entire series? I don't know actually. I have the original PC versions and expansions and I also have the PS2 versions of 1 & 2. What I enjoyed most? I guess the scale of the world and mix-matching items to make cool armors. I like "dungeon-crawler" style games and BG was my first so it holds a special place in my collection.

Definitely amongst my favourite titles ever published.
I've gone through the fantastic CRPGs and the mundane Dark Alliance series. If we're talking about the the PC versions, we can call it masterpiece. Especially BG2. The most enjoyable aspect for me was in the vast amount of dialogue and character interaction which added a level of depth I really haven't encountered in another game since then. I almost hope a new instalment never sees release as it will surely fall below my impossible expectations. Anyway, I'm replaying it currently and it's still fun. Mods help.

BG series is THE best games I ever played... The classic isometric look, the second edition, and of course Aerie

It is not a game, it is just like a book, I always play BG whenever I have time, what really amazes me is that the conversations between the NPC's...
The dialogs between Aerie and Jaheria, Keldorn (he is just plain awesome

) and Jaheria... Also I love the conflict between the tiefling blade singer and your character over Aerie

How she falls in love with you, and of course the celebrity of the setting, Drizzt Do'Urden!!

The tricks that Jarlaxle pulls to lure you in his plans, many more side quests to enjoy the game to the last bit... Winning a Keep and running it... the game is like it has no boundries... Just true classic...
What I dont like about is that there is no good succesor after the two great games... NWN is not that a good story teller to let you enjoy the game (Although I love the story of that dwarf fighter in NWN2

) and the Throne of Baal was too tough for me to beat... it was a power play expansion but I dont like powerplay since it ruins the RPG part...
Play it, let others play, awesome game all around... If you like them try the fallout series

but F1 and F2 not F3 since F3 is far far different from the first two games...

Without question, Baldur`s Gate is one of my absolute favorites. It was the first RPG game I ever played and I fell in love with it on first sight. And what is even more important - I still love it just as much as before!
The graphics, story, companions, diversity of NPC characters, real life enviroment, living cities, dangerous and glorious fights, deadly and wicked enemies, dark dungeons, puzzles and riddles, atmosphere... Everything you can mention about the game is unique and great in every way! And my most favourite part from Baldur`s Gate II - the Underdark with the Drow and the rival elven city - simply gorgeous!!
What more would I want from a game? NOTHING! Give me more of this!

List of the likeable things in Baldur's gate series goes on and on but all hand drawn area's in everone's favourite places of faerun... (And if youre into FRP and table roleplay this makes it even more legendary) About powerplay thats what all faerun is all about, you can buy protection rings from local market like bubble gum but it adds definetely more challenge since theres always another uber villain who's stronger than the last one you beat down in forgotten realms (And better enough all of them has a story unlike other hack n slash games) Baldurs gate is like another novel for people who liked forgotten realms books and the setting itself and its my favourite setting as a dungeon master honestly. But Black Isle menaged to get the attention of people who doesnt have an idea what is faerun or table rpg content thats why these games are still king of the hill under Wizards of the coast license (Along with Planescape Torment of course...) The only thing i can say i don't like about Baldur's Gate series that theres no developer to make another one for the sequel such as Black Isle did. We, the fans will be playing them in the years to come...

I'm in the Underdark right now. I don't really like the fact that everyone tells me to go meet this and that person within a certain time limit, but other than that it's a great place.

Yea that is the main thing about FR, it is too much powerful, but in Dragon Lance, a lvl 4 wizard is really powerful

take a look at Raistlin and you will know what I mean
Oh great thank you all!!! now I have to go home and install the game!!!

I was thinking of playing fallout again but hell, you cant call it a day if you didnt swing swords side by side with Drizzt Do'Urden...
BTW I really need to form a party soon to play pen and paper D&D...

I'm really fond of this game series because it introduced me into the fascinating Faerūn cosmology which I've been enjoying since... now, for me, the best of the game was that crazy warrior and his hamster pet (Minsc and Boo ftw!) the bad, was the fact that you had to use divination spells to watch some of the great ingame artwork at some maps, because certain areas weren't accesible by foot. And the worst, was that you had to wait so long to kick Irenicus's ass (the jerk! I just wish I could have feed him to a phaerimm or something ^^)

I've had the whole pc set since 2003 and I've been playing it ever since! I like the story line and how much you can do on it.
I read on the Wikipedia that Baldur's Gate 3 is coming out in 2010, but it has a different story ( opposed to being a Bhaalspawn ).

I heard that a new game, Dragon Age : Origins, will be released in Q1 of 09, again a bioware release and the game looks good, the good old iso cam is back, but looks much better... I saw some nice combos, like casting grease on the ground then burn it with a flaming arrow

But the game is in a new setting, not a D&D setting, I am eagerly waiting for the game, maybe this game might be good enough to compete with Baldur's Gate...
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Funny statement, a game that will compete with BG? I am just being silly...

I remember how I used to watch my brother play Baldur's Gate 1 and later when I played it myself. It's definetely one of the better games I've ever played and it's place in my heart will always be there.
Me and my friend who has equal love for Baldur's Gate have recently started going through the all series multiplayer. We've finished the first game with the expansion and are now just rising up from underdark.
It is a good way to play a new experience of Baldur's Gate but you'll have to find the perfect partner to play with, wanna play the same type of character/moral/story progress, wanna do the same things etc.
However speaking of games that compete with BG.
Has anyone played Planescape Torment? That game amazing. Black Isles studios aswell.
If you're looking for a gem like Baldur's Gate series, I recommend Planescape Torment.
I can't say it competes with BG, but it's different, with even better dialogues.

Of course!

Every RPG geek who has a PC over 10 years have tried Torment... I never managed to beat the game but it was great, the written part of the game was fantastic, it would take 2 paragraphs just to describe an ordinary NPC in the game... It was really great and really worth your time...
BTW anyone played Storm of Zehir? The new expansion of Nwn2?

dungeon be gone is a very good one.makes starting over alot easier.i hate that first place.
i've got alot of mods for it but some of my favorite mods are.
BG2_tweaks.it adds and changes some rules.
the BanterPack.the party members talk more with it.
unfinished business.that one adds stuff that was originaly taken out of the game.
i've got alot more and most of them work fine.there are some pretty good npc mods too.

I've been thinking about Baldur's Gate a lot lately, I found the Throne of Bhaal Expansion recently in a local shop. Since Oblivion is crashing after about one minute of playing right now, Baldur's Gate starts to look more and more attractive.
For me, the Baldur's Gate series was the first contact with mods, Dark Side of the Swordcoast for BG1, the Baldurdash fixes, Solaufin, Kelsey, Improved Bodhi (talk about a tough fight, especially with Solaufin in the group

).

Ah, Baldur's Gate. One of the pinnacles of the CRPG Golden Age. I preferred it over Diablo I and II because of the more extensive RPG elements, and it was probably the best of the bunch from its time. Fallout, Icewind Dale, Planescape Torment, Diablo, - They were all superb, but Baldur's Gate was in a league of its own. Still have my old copies of all of them, and I play them from time to time. I'm hoping Diablo III will reintroduce classic isometric CRPGs, I'm having a great bout of nostalgia right now.

oh yeah, dont get me wrong, its going to be awesome! i'll probably end up getting the collector set if they have one. it'll be just as addictive as the 1st and 2nd one was. but, from the game play, it still looks initially like the same thing. i'm not complaining though. i think the basic elements of the game work great, but its not like the classical role playing game. its still action-oriented with rpg elements in it. regardless, i'm looking forward to the game.

I know. It's a shame they're not going to be making a Baldur's Gate 3 anytime soon.

I'll just have to settle with DIII. Speaking of, I'm surprised they still haven't announced a release date, even though it's probably near post-production.

Yeah, thats what I hate about Blizzard. Actually Diablo is the only franchise I am interested in there, but why do they have to announce their games years, and years before release. I would much prefer they shut up, until they had a reasonable time frame to release. I bet we will be waiting another 3 years till we actually get to play D3

I've just bought a copy of BG 2 for $3 second hand. Will start playing later.
What I hate about Blizzard is that they've taken the stance that EA has just left. They publish only games that they're sure will make them money, like Diablo 3 and WoW, whereas EA has stopped doing that and publishing games (Dead Space and Mirror's Edge are good examples) which might have been total disasters, meaning they took the chances to try something unique, and it paid off. Blizzard won't take those types of chances.

Frankly, although I disagree, Blizzard doesn't need to take unnecessary risks. WoW is a massive cash cow, and it's not going to be milked out anytime soon. Add the profit from it's other games, and you get a nice comfy cash nest. Tossing a potential dud out the door isn't going to help the company. The tried-and-true formula might be unoriginal, but you can't say it doesn't work for Blizzard. With Starcraft II and Diablo III, Blizzard might not innovate, but they'll sure profit.

Don't waste your money on SoZ. It's horrible. But as for the topic at hand, I've never finished the first Baldurs Gate. But for some nutty reason,(before I ever noticed this thread) I've had a crazy urge to go and play it again. I did finish BG: Dark Aliance on my Xbox though. It was ok, but not fantastic like most of the other FR games i've played.
