Hello, some days ago i started to play Oblivion again. I have a new computer with Vista on it, my old computer was XP so no problems on it. And now i have Vista and i cross a problem this is the problem: I installed some Mods, I installed Deadly reflex and natural weather, No problems with it and now i wanted to install Qarl texture pack III and improved trees and flora. So i did the right thing i think i overwritted everything and the said Oblivion mod manager was good, so i installed it to. and i started to run Oblivion. Did not used Oblibion mod manager yet, and i started it and no new things in Oblivion so i thought lets use Oblivion mod manager. so i started it and it says: ''You appear to be as a limited user.'' Most of obmm's functionality will be unavailable If using windows vista, remember to check the 'run as administrator' Checkbox in Obmm's compatability settings ( see note 16 in FAQ. I dont know what i did wrong maby a stupid thing like what i always do.


Edit: I know how to run as adminstrator now but Qarl texture pack doens't work some Mods work and other not.

vista sucks big time! trust me i know, ive been using vista for over 2 months now and i hate it. the reason for this is my sound driver doesn't work with xp sp3, and i would use ubuntu if my notebook allowed it. ow, and you're stupid

On XP all mods worked.

Now, this is what I call security... would be better that security were not only against the user.

Most troubles begin in the "using Vista" itself, but they lean toward big troubles when you install things in the default C:\Program Files folder (Vista treats this folder at an "incredible" security level). Most of times just installing things outside it solves several issues.

Some time ago these "allowance" issues were addressed getting rid of the UAC, later was found disabling it lead to different troubles and a new workaround described. I don't recall how to do it, since ain't a Vista user (and will not be until it matures enough to be at least worth be named an Operating System instead an "Users restraints acceptance's level" experience) but it can be find here in the forum or someone else says the steps here again.

Edit: If someone is wondering why I talk about Vista, not being a Vista user myself... the answer is: I was a official tester of it, I installed the RC1, RC2 and gave it enough try to know it had so many bugs that could not be addressed at the "release date". Some bugs were structural and this is warranty enough they yet "are".

my oblivion is installed in d: and not in c: (i still have vista) i always use this; os and important stuff on c: ; games, music, movies, unimportant programs on my d:
the only "oblivion-in-vista" problems i have are the command window (but solved it with the ring of command or something) and a strange thing with omod;
i can never start omod the first time, i always have to run oblivion the normal way, close it and start with omod

UAC is off but doenst help anything.

Well, I do exactly the same, except I deem those things the "important" ones, mainly documents that never goes in My Documents folder. So I can even format C: in an emergency without losing them.

What ain't getting is what you means starting omod, I can only think you means the OBMM, well doesn't matter, starting Oblivion via OBMM is just a nicety not a necessary thing, except if you means OBSE but in this case I'm completely at loss about what you really means.

One main function of OBMM is installing 7z compressed files under a structure OBMM can keep track of the files it install and run script to allow choices, this file is suffixed as .omod. Others very useful functions are allowing Load Order changes, Archive invalidation, saving that Load order so it can be easily recovered... among others things... starting Oblivion via OBMM isn't necessary and must even be avoided since OBMM itself is a "heavy" application and commonly need so much time just to do a housekeep before quiting itself.

Some people use it to run Oblivion when running with the OBSE launcher, the same comment above applies, much better is just creating a shortcut to OBSE launcher at the desktop and change it's icon for better "looking". This can be easily done right clicking the OBSE launcher icon, selecting copy, going to the desktop and selecting "Paste Shortcut", NOT just "paste". The icon can be changed just getting into the shortcut properties and clicking the "Change Icon" button and navigating to the Oblivion folder and choosing one there.

Personally I use "The OBSE Launcher" utility and I like it alot. You can find it here in TesNexus.

About yours troubles themselves they aren't because OBMM, maybe not even Vista at this point, place the list of mods you have and their "Load Order" so we can try to trace the faulty things.

i mean obse.. hell i don even know why i wrote omod :s i dont even use it

if i run obse, he says my oblivion is a unknow version (but it is the latest patch).
then i run oblivion the normal way, exit it and start obse again and it works.

note that i use a .iso file cuzz i really hate disks, always scratch, break or lose them but i think that doesnt matter
and i use the obse launcher but the problem occurred before i used it
