During the quest "Unfriendly Competition", after you kill Agarmir and his henchman, the quest updates with some text along the lines of "I think justice has been done, seeing as the penalty for grave robbing is death". If this is the case, how would Necromancy still be legal in Cyrodil? You would think that the Empire would realize where Necromancers get their "subjects" from, and prohibit Necromancy accordingly. Just a gripe I have with the continuity/realism of the game tongue.gif

When you start the mages guild quest, you will find that necromancy is not legal. In fact it is so frowned upon that some of the higher ranked mages don't even like the act of summoning. There are only a very few legion guards that wander the wilderness, but if one does cross paths with a necromancer they do indeed fight to the death. Whether it's an attempt at law enforcement or just differences in AI packages, I don't know, but either way, it negates your [inaccurate] observation.
UnholyShadow
Actually, Mages Guild members almost constantly say " Even though Necromancy may still be legal in Cyrodil, few would openly admit practicing it now that the Mages Guild has banned it." As for the Imperial Legion Guards, either Necromancers attack them first, or it is another one of Bethesda's screw-ups. I guess the Necromancers want more subjects. Maybe you shouldn't be so quick to criticize before you get your facts straight.
HouseAtlantic
Yes Necromancers have an extremely high aggression which provokes them to attack anything outside their rank in faction.. they're very loyal to their.. umm, well they don't really have anything, no code tht they go by, really. they just want to make worm thralls out of you, that's all. Mannimarco and Mankar Camoran are probably the figure heads or good examples of what High Elves really are
Varus Torvyn
If you would like to see an added twist to Necromancy, download & install "The Necromancer" mod. It adds in Necromancers as a real faction that you can join (or not).

Oddly enough, these Necros are watched but tolerated throughout Cyrodiil. They also have a good disposition towards your character (even if you don't join, you can still cultivate a relationship with them).

I wasn't criticizing you, read the wiki. It states in several places that necromancy has been banned, which I interpret as not legal. If you wish, I suppose we could argue the difference of the definitions of "banned" and "illegal" but it would be counter productive to the topic. It would also be a one-sided argument as I would not participate: arguing on the internet is like pissing on a forest fire, pointless and stupid.

eh true, but depends on how you look at it, what the issue is and what you expect to achieve in an argument in general. you sound a lot like one of my marine friends with that statement, but i really don't know anyone immediate to me that's ever heard of oblivion, besides my girlfriend and that really surprised me. but say, for instance, you were banned from The Nexus, you don't have to necessarily do anything illegal to break their TOS
UnholyShadow
I do not wish to further this argument, but as I said before, Necromancy is still legal, it has only been banned from the Mages Guild. Hence my quote of the Mages Guild members "Even though Necromancy may still be legal in Cyrodil, few would openly admit to practicing it now that the Mages Guild has banned it"
Halororor
Walk up to a mages guild character with a necro robe on. I challenge you to see if it's legal.
UnholyShadow
They know you are in the guild, and a guild member caught practicing necromancy is kicked from the guild, so they tell you to take the robes off. I do not know how people are arguing about this. Talk to a Mages Guild member about "Mages Guild"or "Rumors" and they will often say the quote I have said earlier.I challenge you to do it
HouseAtlantic
It's not an argument. Relax, why so serious??
I've never had a mage from the guild attack me over wearing the necromancer robes, npot at the university or anywhere..

Simple they don't need steal the bodys, they could legaly receive, mainly from the Legion that send then the corpses of criminals.
And remember if you can loot the corpse of a marauder that's attacked you, why not a necromancer can use it for their studies

Nothin odd as they don't belong to The Order of Black Worm, The Mannimarco's Order.
If you gain they trust they'll explain that. In fact this mods cover another flaw of vanilla as show tha not all necromancer are evil nor follower of Mannimarco.
So maybe this explain why the mages guild don't attack the player if wear an necromance robes, only angrily ask to take off the robe.

And btw did you talked with the couple? the one who have their child daughter murdered by some mageguild"s batlemages?
