To all modders when you make your mods please can you check if they work with OldOblivion so that people that have to use it dont have to download it and then find out it dosnt work.

You ARE accounting for the fact that if they require SI, the Official Patch, or OBSE, or if any of these are recommended, they probably won't work, right?

Actually it would be nice to separate out the ones that do work with oldblivion in some way, but that would take someone's time and effort. Have you checked the Oldblivion site to see if someone has a list of "approved" or tested mods? I think it's a worthy effort, but you may be the one to do it, if no one else is. Good luck!

Its a good thought, but It is not really practical. That would require them to test mods on every possible configuration available. Most modders do post any compatibility problems they know about, but they rely on users to let them know about problems on specific versions and configurations.

Generally, if you have to use oldblivion, your computer probably doesn't have enough resources to use some of the larger, more complicated mods anyway. Most people who mod, mod for their own computer setup, if it works on their system, it's fair to assume that anyone with better or similar hardware could also use that mod. As far as I know, Oldblivion was never meant to a long term, definite solution for those who are lacking a good videocard or processor, rather it was meant to just allow those people to play the game and use some of the more basic mods until they could upgrade their hardware or get another computer. The sad truth is that computers quickly become outdated, and it is really more of a rarity that something like Oldblivion even exists. You will have to upgrade eventually, just considder the use of more advanced mods as part of the reason.

I say this because it is almost impossible to make a large mod that people would considder "good" without requiring atleast decent hardware. The mod my team and I are working on at the moment was made in 1.1, does not use any SI content, does not use OBSE, but because it makes use of custom statics, and many more NPCs, it probably wouldn't work well for anyone who does not have a decent video card. And as it is something fundimental to the mod, this cannot be changed. The general plan of modders is to push the limit of what can be done, few set out trying to make a mod which is stripped to its most basic components just so that a small additional group of people can play it. Afterall, even when the D2D version could only be upgraded to 1.1, most mods were made in 1.2 because that was what most modders had. Few even cared that a group of people wouldn't be able to use their mods.

Hehehe...ok, how about this in reverse?

To all players: Download every mod, try it out and report back if it works with your system, what you have installed, which version you are running, what OS, where you have Oblivion installed, what video options you have enabled, whether or not you've read the Oblivion Mods FAQ, etc.

Doesn't seem like that is practical or even remotely possible of actually happening does it?

How can a mod not be compatable with just an index of mods? Or was it meant that mods would need to be compatable with everything listed there? Or maybe I'm missing something.

But yeah, the general idea is that mods will always conflict with something so mod users will have to look at what a mod changes and ask themselves if any other mod changes the same things. If two mods change the same things, chances are that they won't work together and probably can't be made to work together. As far as oldblivion goes, any mod which adds complex scripting, custom meshes, custom effects, or new areas has a chance of not working with Oldblivion, or not working well. This is in addition to whatever OBSE or game version requirements are usually listed with the mod. As someone who still uses 1.1, I need to be careful of what mods I download and understand what they are supposed to change before installing them. As a result, several of those "must have" mods are things which I cannot use. But I accept that as part of the decision to use 1.1.

Just an easter egg of sorts to be funny. Usually when I put together long lists like that, I toss in something for humor just to see who catches it. Congrats!

Absolutely. You could start a new thread right here in this forum and start growing a list of "known-to-work-with-oldblivion" mods and get feedback from other oldblivion users (hopefully). Would make a nice rally point for the relatively small number of players and provide a very valuable resource to them.
