I am looking for houses, one preferable by water, for one of my companions, that likes to take a swim, now and then, tired of the vanilla houses..Also tired of getting a cool house, and my companions get stuck, and run into walls , or cannot get to the bed to sleep, or find their way to sit down and eat..for they haven't been mapped and pathed right for a companion to use..
A list of mods you know are companion friendly mapped for companions would be appreciated..In town or close to towns, but not to far out of the way..

Thanks Myrmaad..I actually just tried that house, as a matter of fact, I was drawn to it, for they seem to get lost in larger houses anyways..I like smaller..I was all happy, and Neeshka got caught twice, trying to follow me downstairs she was walking into the wall.. then couldn't seem to follow me out the door an literally got struck inside a wall, I mean half her body was outside and half inside,..poor thing.. I had to turn of collision go into the wall, and tell her to go home and she did the poof thing..
I really wanted that one to work, but for some reason..I don't know if Rhianna will do any better in it..I can try..but it does have some collision issues..it seems..

Oh. I read that with CSR companions that happens a lot, it happens to me a lot. If I just go back inside and then outside again they usually come out. But instead of that, I bound the Call Companion spell to a hot key, and use it alot in such situations.

Inside the house, I didn't notice them getting stuck, because I tend to tell them to "wait here/make yourself at home" as soon as we walk in the door. I was busy at the spell station for about an hour--maybe two-- one day with Freya there with me, and she wandered around, sat in front of the fireplace, ate, sampled the potions, opened and closed every one of the display cases multiple times, and then suddenly snuck up behind me and said, Real Loud, "HELLO!"

Scared the bejusus out of me. I tend to have a problem with startling easily anyway, and I about went off my chair!!

Good luck with your search. I like the Garden Retreat by Anorial a lot! but be warned I did a helova lot of redecorating, added three beds, bookshelves, chests, and wine racks, but there is now space for three companions in the main house, and made the winter garden into a beautiful bedroom suite for myself. It turned out really beautifully, but it took a LOT of effort.

I'm definitely going to try several of the houses on that page, one the Japanese style house, and the Lost Grove, as well. Heck I might try all of 'em, but I have so many in my game now that I haven't found yet that I forget where to even look. I keep a folder of readme's for all the mods I have installed, but it was an afterthought and I think I'm going to need a spreadsheet to track them.

I'll try to take some pictures of the Garden Retreat upgrades I made, I got most of the furniture from Imperial Furniture, and the bookcases with Autobook Placing, I think.

I have a mod in my "to install and try" folder called "Redecoration" which addresses the few shortcomings of Decorator Assistant (namely moving existing furniture) but I add so many mods that it's a long process of checking them. I'm still playing the game so I have to be very careful!!

I'm sorry to disagree, but I do and strongly. Companion friendly homes can come in any size or style and they'd make me happy.

The problem with companions is, the CELLS


A companion-friendly home will allow a companion to roam freely while also being able to easily access food and a bed all within one cell. Sadly the larger the house mod, the more loading screen doors they love to put into them. And this is bad for a companion, because now they cannot freely roam to food and rest. Large homes tend to make a separate room for every activity. Many small homes do the same but not so much.

I forgot to add there's another small one one of my girls really seemed to do well in, it was one of the Anvil Anbandoned house mods - it added a two story basement, and was probably one of Princess Stomper's designs. I'll try to find it.

if you disagree you disagree and your comment is fair if we are talking size wouldnt a castle work? its big for size so your followers will not walk into anything seats beds and food for them pretty simple to make i think if you want Aeryn i could open up CS and have a go but i need to know what you fancy in it tell me here or PM me either way i have a go!

@Myraad cells is always a problem for Followers i only use Ruin or Soina they always stay in place

I'm definitely going to play Ruin's Tale sometime when I finish all the vanilla quests and shivering isles.

A castle can sometimes help but a lot of times it doesn't work so great because of the trouble with the cells. For example take the Castle in Kvatch Aftermath. It's a pretty great one as castles go, the Great Hall has a lot of seating and dining and free roaming non-companion NPCs but no beds and it's a closed cell. Then there are the three wings. The Count's private quarters has no dining options and only one bed.

The guest suite wing has NPC's who share the few beds and plenty of liquor but no food or dining area.

The servants quarters - well I've never seen an NPC in there but there are some ugly little beds in a dormitory setting and plenty of food and food storage, almost like a big kitchen, but it's pretty boring otherwise and I don't remember seeing a single chair. Companions like to sit down and eat. The like to have a bed available, and the main thing is if they are following you, you have to watch for the tricky collision that Aeryn posted about.

I have a lot of trouble because I often have three girl companions with me. My posse. And it's tough to find a space that accommodates all of us comfortably, so I make do by finding small apartments/houses that are near each other.


That is really sweet of you to offer to make her a custom home! it's hard to find just the right space. It was much different when I was only concerned about my own character.


That's why I love the Garden Retreat home, it actually accommodates all 4 of us very nicely. It's modeled after the Weynon Priory and so all open except for the door leading to the "Winter Garden" downstairs (which I've made into my suite) and the door off the upstairs bedroom which goes out to the lovely balcony. There's even a back yard with garden seating and a stables. I even put my favorite tent up back there.

I've taken a bunch of screenshots of "After" I redecorated and added the beds and chairs and chests and such.

Hey Aeryn if your companion likes to swim of his or her own volition, you might want to think about this "open house". It's only room for one, so if you can leave your companion on their own it might work out well. There are a couple of downsides to this house, for one thing it's awfully bright. On the upside the main entrance door is easily opened by your companion or the dog that comes with the house. You can lock it with the console or the very hard lock spell and it will stay shut, but it's a non-loading screen door which makes it WONDERFUL!! But the bad thing is that much of the design is not very well done. The collision is pretty tight and not well-considered, even for the poor pet dog, and the world space the modder used is very rocky and steep-sided, making it difficult terrain and not very pretty, lacking nice beach and garden features. A better beach would have been to have located down on the Gold Coast north of Anvil.

You know there is something else.. I have roamed that area many times before I installed that mod and there were a lot of enemies roaming out there. Somehow, the modder who created this mod got rid of the enemies from coming into the entire yard space, as if there's a perimeter of safety, which is really important because of my horse, and the horses my companions sometimes ride. I have often gone out to the balcony, worried about my horse only to find him absolutely fine and safe. That's huge.

im going to make a castle quite a large one as well build into the montains the plan is

build castle in montains near bruma
build interoirs
add Guard npcs ( with AI Packages)
one big room for the compaions ( might need help with this due to finding the right building for it)
add room for PC
non respwaning chests in Compaion Rooms and in other rooms
add guard house ( where guards live)
add 2 buildings for the 2 people living there
add a tower with the enchant and spellmaking alters
try and get a working gate

Hey while I've got you, can I give you my wish list I've had? Of course these are simply the things I've been wishing for myself and I will definitely defer to Aeryn's wishes since she's the one who started this!

Things I've been wishing for -

• COMFORTABLE CHAIRS and SOFAS - Xiamara and Zimnel are "The Man" even if they're women. And curtains!
• Generous Firepits and Fireplaces and a Cooking Range (pretty please!)
• A secret passage to mage alter or alchemy rooms (convenient to master bedroom, meaning I can lock my bedroom door and open a passage to walk to the mage quarters would be ideal, however I'd be happy with any secret passage.)
• A working Armory Forge like the one in this castle (it's really great but doesn't have to be so big) Hey I see he didn't mention it at all in the description. It works by adding Armory points to your armory skill when you stand next to it.
• A canopy bed or at least a really lovely master bed
• A room with a View
• Don't forget the STABLES and Corral.
• A static alchemy set (like this one I love by Academician Nwahs)
• Unique epic Tapestries (I have a resource if you need it)
• A beautiful garden and watercaping, I don't care how, if there's water I'm happy! And don't forget Aeryn's companion likes to swim!
• Good and evil surprises.
• Some respawning supply bins (food and beverage, alchemy staples, and INCOME, I love income even though I don't really need it, it's just comforting.)
• If it was truly christmas I'd get a dressing room/closet storage including a couple of female mannequins for my favorite clothes or armor outfits. and a mirror.)

Now there should be no doubt at this point that I'm a woman!! haha


Always fun for me is a miniature you can go inside. A lot of really good mods have these. I'd love one to be a farm, and I have a favorite farm in oblivion, that adorable little farm in BorderWatch! It's the BEST! (I want it.)

I could seriously be like a kid at Christmas with my wish list though, so I don't expect anything at all. I'm just excited that you're even thinking of this!

Well what do I like..First my two companions, is the original Neeshka by Rsdnt-Eve, someone did a retake of her blonde and supposedly sexier, but I like the original one....she's been by my side from the very beginning...And I have one of the most complex companions out there Rhianna, who was built off of her..by an exceptional modder, she needs OBSE 15 her scripts are awesome, and likewise , the constant fixes, but she has finally reached a good place with just a few little niggling things left to fine tune..but she is an amazing companion and Jumonji is an awesome modder..Oh its Rhianna, that swims one of her commands now is you can swim here to relax, and she will go out in the morning, and go for a swim, nude, and in the middle of Anvil lol..I would like to get her some more privacy....carefree, Goddess she is, which is her class, BTW..Goddess in training...

I don't use, Toasty, or companion share or Cm partners, none of that...With my two loyal gals who needs strangers....One is mêlée Neeshka, and Rhianna is literally a Goddess in training part Goddess and part humyn..A Mage all the way...a powerful one stay out of the way of her lightening bolt..But she does heal you also..She has quite a complex personality and battle strategy.
Me I am a battlemage custom as usally..I like to mix it up, I Dl this custom Celt race, which I changed some, added Elven ears to me Celt warrior womon, for well I am part Sidhe..after all..I toned down the race a wee bit for it was overpowered..
So that me and the girls..

Neeshka has her water front cottage she loves it for its near her favourite haunt the bloated flaot..Rhianna needs a special place befitting a Goddess, nature oriented, and meself actually..

Now ya think because I am a Celt I'd like a castle..well in real life maybe..but to tell you the truth I am in real life as well as game, more of a cabin type..but with amenities..
I just get lost in big places, I like things more I don't know up close and personal..
I tell you I love living in a cave...one thats been modernised, fro lack of better word.. say part cave, part cabin..maybe it sticks into a cave, but part of it sticks out and is a cabin..

But a cave/cabin, toatlly pathed for a companion..say, with a waterfal ouside....must have a waterfall..Don't need alchemy for I have the spell Alchemy anywhere mod, that lets you just cast it, and it gives you all the equipment at the level your at..wherever you are.. convenient ...But A Unique sorter with a personality...A familiar cat to walk the house and when you pet her, she meows, and will give you health, and feed her crab meat and you get a luck bonus...

I like a nice large bed for me and companion......don't like sleeping alone..I have the mod see yourself sleep, which is quite immersive to see yourself lay down..

I like simple...blue bed cover.. blue is good for relaxing..It would be so cool if Welkand (sp) stones could set hues to different areas of the house, like greenish hue in living room for healing, and blue in the bedroom for peace, and maybe a lavender hue in bath...relaxation..ah a bath like in Belda Elysium mod, where you literal get in sit down,for a soak, and activate nob, steam comes up, and your health is renewed..small place yet as I said with amenities..
Like instead of this overlit, bit that many do.. I dislike bright lights candle light, or candle hues, image a house that all the rooms where not lit the same , but had hues to fit the healing energy of the room, and setting..

Fireplace, in bedroom, facing the double bed..as well as living room one..nice bench befroe the fireplace..in living room near, small kitchen table enough for two or three maybe....small storage for food...

Just a book case and dresser, and desk...liosten I am a country gal, I like the simple rustic cabin cave type of living..But a cave behind a waterfall, pathed for companions of course, would be my ideal...a stall place for my 2 horses and my unicorn..maybe a wee bit of farm like area, with flowers, veggies, and hedge around to keep out the world..
Garden, perhaps and indoor like small water fall in basement with plants from Tamerial and Oblivion ect growing in it..or around it..lit by Welkand stones..

A few chest for storage..though i can get that and my own lighting at Imperial Furniture..I don't like bright I like candle light..I like putting my own lighting in...I like the triple wall sconces, and the candles in a plate..

I do have Illumination within, so light shines outside the windows..
I looked at some of the houses myrmaad and allot of them requite Cobl which I will not use..

Take look at what I did for Neeshka she likes the waterfront for her favourite haunt is the Bloated float where you pick her up the first time..

All that was in this mod, well I selected and disabled all but the bed and fireplace.. PhotoShoppe is my thing, I went in to the texture files, and changes the lower class beds, to a teal, and some green with matching pillows, and cloned out the rips and tares..also removed some of those stupid wood wall stains..when I found them..tis easy enough..Now if I could put together what i can do in PhotoShoppe into a modded house, I be set, but other than minor changes in the CS, it baffles my dyslexia..how to actually mod a house..Textures I could create the rest forget it..

Then I added everything with Imperial furniture, out door lamps, a patio, with bench, end table, and a fireplace, facing the waters, nice at night when stars are out..using that platform for a throne....instead as a patio...some tall iron out door lamps for lighting and draping two tapestries, on the front side to block anyone walking onto it, you have to walk around back... who says the waterfront has to be shabby i like it there..You wouldn't believe what I did to that waterfront house..

I can't seem to get the right file size to upload...to show you...I might put them on my profile page...and let you know....for they are to big for here...to insert..

Now I just have to get my prefect house and Rhianna's with a place for secluded swim..neath a waterfall..one she can get in and out of easy and not get stuck..

woo dont ask for much do you both? righrt once i got the message back from Conan_Lon i will have a go but from what you ask there is a lot of scripting involed some bits

but basiclly you want a cabin with a waterfall with pool right? its going to be a big inside cabin small castles would work well with your followers but sure i will find a simple one i might build the cabin near a already made waterfall since i have no clue how they work but im sure to find out

but its got to be one castle or cabin? your call its your idea

my view is that castle in the mountians might be easer for me to understand possable as a addon build a small village on the outside with a waterfall? but the caslte as the main comapions base?

i plan to add 10 npcs to the castle as well with Compaion share so you can put whatever on them with there own Packages ( something i need to brush up on )

Well personally I don't want it far from civilisation just outside it, so Rhianna, can go into town for her free afternoons, close yet away, she likes to gab with the city folks, there are a few waterfalls, not way up in the Mtes..
If its small castle, no NPCs or villages..OK..
I still like the idea, of it being built partly, into a cave, where perhaps the in the cave part is small waterfall with the Tamrial /Oblivion ingredients would gather round it... then the cabin or small castle as part outside of the cave, near a waterfall accessible for Rhianna to swim and not get stuck.unable to get out of water..
So whether, cabin or small castle with the things I mentioned in previous post, and not way up in mtes, but utilise one of the closer waterfalls to a town she can travel to short walking distance..and as I said pathed so companion can utilise it fully..
What about my lighting idea, and the bath and cat...???Any thoughts..???

I used to make very complex skins for Unreal Tournment 3 & 4 with panners and shaders..before I got hooked on RPG..
I only wish we had the Unreal Editor to make mods with..in Oblivion..

Like I see it all in my head but cannot do in CS..la..its a dyslexia thing..I am more of an engineer than the constructionist..I only learned skinning for I had a good mentor in UT..that taught me long distance hands on how to..If I had that for Oblivion, you should see the ideas, I have in my head, and mods ect..But cest le vie..I've read tutorials, are greek to me..with my dyslexia I need hands on how to step by step until I learn then I do amazing things.. and very few people are willing to mentor someone as I got in UT.

I have taken others mods for my personal use and drastically changed them, for my own use as long as there are texture files..I have changes the games texture files also..
So I have to depend on someone perhaps willing to take my idea and implement them and work with me on them...maybe one day I will find someone who will then maybe I could contribute to this community like I want to..

any town in perefence? there is a problem with this if you think about it size you dont want it to big but if i dont make to big there will be problems as in Rhianana cant move around much i need to rethink the plan and get more resouses

have you seen the DLC Battlehorn Castle? is that size you wanting? because untill we can find a good place what size you want and finally found a way to get the mod up and going i can suggest a mod ( you may have heard of ) but has a teleport to other houses you buy in towns

to be honest i really dont have the patenice to sit here 1-10 days working on a mod that may/will get undownloaded etc etc but i will have a play for a laugh or Aeryn i could make the outside as you want and interoirs but you add what you like?

Before we go a-scrappin' this good idea, let's have a moment to consider designing a good companion home.

You know, a few have been done for oblivion, but as far as I have seen, very few. One of them is that companion tent. I'll have to look at it again.

I'm wondering about path grids, when I look in CS they always have the wireframe around the figures in the houses, and I suspect that's part of the whole design scheme.

If a large cell is divided up into separate rooms separated by doors that open and close but don't load to a new cell, there would be no "Cozy-ness" or intimate feeling lost so it wouldn't feel like a huge castle to get lost in.

I'm amenable to Aeryn's ideas, mine were plenty malleable.

I'm having a little trouble figuring out how to add a mountain world space to nearby Anvil though, and there are so many Anvil mods that I am a bit concerned about adding another to the bay area, but! there is an oblivion gate up by the hookers' house that is on a steep hilly area, and some other wilderness areas around the Master Archer's campsite, right now that's all I can think of affecting that worldspace in vanilla, so the possibility of adding a small grotto-lake area to that space is actually enticing.

Tyreil as far as gathering up resources, I have a paid rapidshare account, but I think you meant just links to the modders resources you need. And I think you may have run out of patience with this idea, and at this moment, I'm really needing to focus my energy on clothing/nifskope/blender because I don't like 90% of the options for my character. I just hate the T&A, but I want style.

So, anyway this may have to go on the backburner, but I don't want to lose sight of it at all, so I would love to enlist your help when I'm ready to focus on this.

It was a great idea, and lots of Aeryn's ideas are helpful, because a great companion home has to be fluid and versatile enough for any of the companion options out there.



Aeryn I had no idea there were so many cool options for a custom companion. I know what you mean about all your ideas, I have soooo MANY! I keep a notebook with all the stuff in my head for oblivion, and I'm not talking about houses at all, I mean STUFF. I keep wanting to ask, but then I just keep quiet because I'm hoping I'll be able to bring the "designs" in my head to fruition.

As for Cobl of course it's your choice and your taste how you play your game, but for modders, Cobl is going to become more essential I think as time goes on because it allows the integration and sharing of resources from different mods into a commonly accessed database, all working together in concert without conflict. There are features I don't use, I have enough trouble surviving without dying of thirst! Haha.

Tyriel I'd still love to see your castles, do you have any up, or can I just have one you've made in the past and didn't release? I promise to be good!

Good , glad you feel strong about this also.a good companion house..as we used to say about maps in UT pathed for bots, in this case pathed for companions...I just tried another house mod..Landscape one , in new files..near a waterfall..He said it was fine but not so..Terrible lag, and I have a high end machine.. and Nesska got caught, twice.. And also could not sit in a chair..she just walked into the walls..could not exit the door either...so another one bites the dust..

And Neeshka, I have her link also, the blonde photo is ealier release, the new one is the frist one called forest encounter.. with darker hair..he made..newer release..she was the one that birthed Rhianna for Jumonji and came out if her really..they are my favourite and only two best mates..they have saved my arse more times then I can count, wouldn't trade them for anything..loyal that way..

As for Cobl maybe, but its not compatible with miods I have, that i do not want to give up for the sake off ones all thrown together I might not want..hopefully there will always be the option of Cobl or not to Cobl from modders, many do..
All i know is I want a house , cabin syle, small, cosy, yet with amenties, or small castle, same..by a water fall, or pond, I just am fond of waterfalls tis all..but pond will do for her, but not out in the wilderness, for she likes to go into town on her free time, and chat up folks..

( a note this could take me a while i got a outside done as in going to relase this a a modders souce frist time once i have done i will fill it with objects of use )

the keep itself isnt big ( outside) you cant walk on the walls ( dont ask me why) and due to the size stables might be a problem but there always the stables across the road

Aye you were posting as I was it seems, read above...Aye I can texture, I am very artistic with PhotoShoppe..you should see the in game textures I have changed.and as long as mods have texture files with them I can and have changed them...as I said above need not be a waterfall I just love them, a pond will do for now for her...to have her morning swim..

I'd love to see your mini-mods (that's what I call mine ) And I know what you mean about making changes to the mods.

I'm wondering if the pet cat idea is something that you've seen "out there" we could use as a resource, or is that something you've imagined yourself, if there's a script like that we should have a look at it, if it isn't.. well I'm the worst at scripting so I'll be no help with that. I can peck around at the other stuff. Maybe Tyreil has some scripting genius!

The easiest way to show your work is to post your screenies on one of the Hosting sites. Photobucket and Imageshack are both good but require a free account setup. Tinypic is good because you can post any picture and not have an account with them.

So let's say you choose to use Tinypic. Go to their link http://www.tinypic.com/

The cat aye, and bath thing, is in my favourite personal house, but it huge, and the scripting in the house is amazing, but its so big..but its beautiful, with a lovely quests and two lovely Dunmer sisters..and chemie the cat is in Belda Elysium. Chedk it out..

We'll see, I think Myrmaad needs you input also, and I can redo or retexture anything, but I don't know how to put it into a mod, so if that needs doing I can, if someone else puts it in CS.. she said notning definate..we'll see, but your still doing the Chorrol thing aye nay...?????

i will help her if i can and have a go at my end as well but i its going to be next week before i can make any good progress

Well, I'm not fast, and I'm not confidant, and I'd much rather be making clothes, so I'm going to try and see how it goes, but I feel it will suck, compared to the great mods that are out there. I just have too little experience and too little knowledge, but we all have to start somewhere!

I have every faith in you..If you need anything,input anything, I am here since the accident, that's all I do is sit in front of the computer , so if you need and textures done or anything, I'll do that part, I need things to do, all alone out here in the bogs...just me and Aasha me Tonkinese cat..
I have just re-textured all the lower class in game wood panels, I do not like the dripping stains, that look like water or blood trailing down the walls, so thats done..I didn't feel they needed to be there..

BTW speaking of clothes, is anyone making some real armours for Robers female replacer, all the cool armours, are for the others...I mean I can appreciate the skimpy armour, and appreciate the artistic value, but when I go into battle..I am a Celtic womon we go protected..
No-one seem to be doing anything for Roberts female body replacer, I happen to think his body replacer is very good, and undervalued..
