Well, me being the Star Wars freak that I am, I am looking forward to the release of "Star Wars: The Firce Unleashed." Alas, I own only a Wii (and a PC, of course), and I'm debating whether or not I should get it for the Wii. I know the Wii can handle the Havok system well, but I'm still a bit unsure. Until I can get some footage, I'm kind of unsure. As far as I know, it's not for the PC, otherwise I would probably get it for that.

Please offer your input on the matter. thanks.gif

Get the PC version if your computer can run it. That's what I'm going to do. thumbsup.gif

I have an XBOX an XBOX 360 and my Bro-In-Law that is living at my house has a Wii. Oh, I also have an iPhone that the game will run on but I certainly am NOT interested in that version. wink.gif

Is it just me or does it seem like the system (graphics and types of games) are geared for small children of the Mario Brothers persuasion?

Which OS is it for? Cause if it's for Vista, I guess I will HAVE to get it for the Wii. I saw some footage, and the graphics for the Wii version are actually quite good. It also uses Havok Physics well. Apparently you swing the Wiimote like a lightsaber (same idea as Zelda: TP), and you can use the force powers with both, or one hand.

I heard about the iPhone version and saw a video of it on Youtube. It looked... Cheesy... unsure.gif

P.S. Not all the graphics on the Wii are aimed at children, only the Mario and "kiddie-games." Twilight Princes had/has some prety good graphics, and the new Fatal Frame game coming out for it looks good (and scary! ninja.gif ).

AFAIK there will be no PC release along with other consoles, Pc users (like me:() will have to wait and pray that the game will be released on PC too...

So you have to buy it on Wii...
LHammonds
Well that sux.

I just went to the official site and these are the platforms (all consoles) it will be released on:

XBOX 360
Playstation 3
Wii
Nintendo DS

FYI - You can pre-order (of course) and it is said to ship on Sept 16.

I suppose I will be getting the XBOX 360 version then.

From what I could tell from the pics it looks like the Playstation3 had the best graphics followed by the Xbox360, I was surprised to see a Playstation2 version of the game.

If money were no object I would go with the Playstation3 & Wii versions.

The only thing we can do is cross our fingers and pray that the game will be released on PC...

Yes, but it will probably be only for Vista (I expect Vista will be great and fixed by then though...)

I probably won't pre-order it, because the last time I pre-ordered a game (Oblivion) the disc arrived blank... pinch.gif

I would also think that it would be a DirectX 10-only release as well.

I downloaded a demo for the game over the live marketplace and the game looks sick. I lost my faith in starwars based video games a long time ago. It seemed to me like lucasarts was handing away licences to every 2 bit gaming developers out there. Ironically I can't remember the names of a single game I hated. The few I did like were KOTOR and Battlefront. Most of my very biased opinion is based off of the ps1 generation of starwars games so I gave little ps2/xbox generation games a try. I heard Republic commando was great but I never managed to get my hnds on a copy of it. What I specifically liked about the demo was the games action itself. From what I gathered from the control sceme and who they worked the games seems like a mixture of Devil May Cry and Jedi Knight.
Edit: Jedi powerbattles is one I can remember.

As a big Star Wars fan myself i cant wait for this game to comeout.
I love the SWKotOR 1 and 2 (for PC)
I be getting it for my PS3.

I just looked at a review of the Wii version... it looks pretty good. While it lacks somewhat in graphics, it makes up for in playability and involvement. It has Havok physics, and the same story line though. smile.gif

@LHammonds: Heh. The last picture is my avatar. Found it this afternoon. wink.gif

Well, since I was sick today, I didn't go out and buy TFU. Instead I was cheap and got a character and lightsaber mod for Jedi Academy! tongue.gif

NOTE: NOT THE ACTUAL GAME! JUST A SKIN AND WEAPON MOD! i DON'T LIKE TO RIP-OFF COMPANIES... well, not often anyways. happy.gif

Dang the luck (in this case, it was a double-edged luck)

Lucky that I got some contract work and was able to pull an additional 6 hours.
Unlucky that I did not get to play my game (more than a few minutes) before I left to the 2nd job.

From what I saw of it, I'm impressed.

Although a couple of screenshots I posted earlier show something that makes it look like a two-player combat selection screen, the XBOX 360 case says 1-player. Looks like the 360 got screwed while the Wii and PSP enjoy a dual-mode and 3-player mode. wallbash.gif The most irritating aspect is that the 360 version costs MORE than the Wii or PSP versions.

I've noticed that for the Wii version, the designers really didn't use the system up to it's full potential. They could have done a bit better graphics-wise. Take a look at the comparison between Metroid Prime 3, and TFU:

Metroid Prime 3 (Please Ignore the names and Mii's in this picture; it's not mine... confused.gif )

The Force Unleashed Wii

The Secret Apprentice doesn't even have a backhand grip! sad.gif

Ah well, I'll live with it... the duel mode looks pretty fun if you want to chill with a friend though. yes.gif

Hooray for physics on all platforms (except the PS2, PSP, and DS...)! biggrin.gif
LHammonds
I think they spent a lot of their time on developing the effects system getting the different engines to communicate together: Havok physics, the AI and the materials which were all separate pieces....which allowed for their awesome gameplay that they envisioned.

So following some friendly advice, I decided to rent the game instead of plonking down the full amount for the 360 version. It was the right choice. Decent enough game, pretty graphics, and some fun times with force powers, but my god does camera control/targeting suck. Also, not a fan of having QTE events sprung on me mid-combat ala God of War. Still, a decent game overall; I liked it mostly.

Oddly enough, it did find a release on the PS2 as well. Not totally sure how faithful a translation it is to the PS3/360 versions. But it has the physics so happy gaming, friend.

Now I feel like they absolutely must release a PC version at some point as pretty much every system has a SW:TFU, even the N-Gage and some Nokia mobile phones apparently.
LHammonds
It certainly does seem like they are dissing PC owners for the simply fact they have a release available for just about everything BUT the PC.

Let's just hope they are making a "special" version that has everything that all the consoles have and more. wink.gif

Probably won't make it any clearer...

From the May 2008 Videogamer.com interview with producer Cameron Suey. Full interview here.

QUOTE
VideoGamer.com: Force Unleashed is coming to every platform going, except...

CS: No Commodore 64, no Apple IIE...

VideoGamer.com: No PC...

CS: No PC as well, yes.

VideoGamer.com: We're a multiplatform website and some of our PC-owning readers have complained about this.

CS: And that's something that every time I read that, we do hear that complaint, it hurts. Our goal was we wanted to get this game to as many people as possible. I definitely wish it had been possible. However the PC being the gaming platform that it is, someone with a $4,000 high-end system would definitely be able to play the Euphoria, the DMM and really technical elements of the game. But someone with a low-end PC would have a watered down experience, they would have to turn all the settings down and it wouldn't be the same game. On the other hand if we made that game for as many people as possible, because we are trying to make mass market games, something that everybody can enjoy, well then it's not taking advantage of what those $4,000 systems can do. So one way or the other depending on how you build that lead PC SKU, it's not going to be for the same amount of people, it's going to be not as good or only for a select few people.

That said we're definitely not out of the PC market. It's just with our choice for this game, with the known quantity for the consoles, and every console is the same with the same processing power, it made sense for us to develop for those consoles.

And a follow-up regarding consumer dissatisfaction with that decision posted just days ago: http://www.videogamer.com/news/12-09-2008-9308.html

Well, that sux. After reading those articles, I felt the need to post the following comment on the 1st article which now has 5 pages of comments.

QUOTE
There have been many comments posted here that I agree with and I'd like to take the time to say so.

I think the real reason they did not release for the PC market is due to ROI. Call it what you will but I seriously doubt developers get many support calls from console owners about "I cannot install this" or "It does not work with xxx hardware" etc.

Piracy might have played a small factor as well but check out how well Galactic Civilizations is doing...they do not utilize anti-theft mechanisms like SecurRom. Check out "The Gamer’s Bill of Rights" on their web site.

What makes me mad is that they did not come out and say it and instead spew nonsense that anyone can see through...not a very effective smoke screen at all. They should be embarrassed about this.

Not wanting to support a platform because of support and financial issues might cause them to loose some customers but at least they won't loose respect.

For this reason, I am going to break the XBOX 360 disc that I bought. Well, this reason and the fact it was also a stupid idea to require the character's nose as a pointing device rather than the view screen. DuH!

This is quite a sad state of affairs because I was a fan of the company.

EDIT: After careful thought, I won't be trashing my disc afterall.
tyreil829
why will you not be trashing your disc LHammonds?

why will you not be trashing your disc LHammonds?
Because it is just too fun using force lightning in creative ways.

The game was fairly difficult to beat the 1st time through while developing your force powers but starting a 2nd game with the same character and all the force powers you've already gained, it is much more fun.

My favorite move is to grab and lift a victim, use lightning to turn them into a grenade, throw my lightsaber at them so it sticks into their gut and then fling them into a group causing everyone to die around them. If they are the only one left, I'll toss them somewhere look looks painful or straight up in the air to see if I can hit them one more time before they hit the ground. wink.gif

The story is interesting and I played through as a nice guy the 1st time round. The 2nd time round, I am taking no prisoners...wookies, droids, jawas, dwarfs, younglings...they are all cannon fodder.
