Assuming that there still is a chance that houses will be in the game, i have a Idea for a little workaround for pre defined interior of the housing.
Would it be possible to split the interior into several cells and give the player the option to upgrade his house with new rooms?
As far as i know, doors and objects can be placed by scripts, so the only thing to do, is to let open spaces at the Walls of some rooms, where a door to another cell of the home could be placed. So the home could be editable by the player within the set boundaries of the devs.
For exampel:
You build a new house. It starts out with a small room, where all things for a normal hut or house are placed. Like a bed and shelves and a drawer.
In addition, it has some empty spaces at the walls, where additional doors can be placed.
Now the player decides to upgrade his house with a bedroom. The Bed will be removed from the original cell and a door leading to the pre made bedroom is placed there.
That could surely be done with several different locations and rooms.
Another Idea:
Instead of making several cells, the whole house could be pre made. But there won´t be any doors to the other parts of the house. When the player upgrades his house, a Wall will be replaced by a door leading to another room.
Combining both ideas, you could make a really neat looking custom house:
A big connected central part of the house and some places for doors. The doors could be used for Charackter specific Rooms or special Rooms for crafting and alchemy (if these are implemented) which give boni to these skills when used within the rooms.
Furthermore, the placeable doors could be choice rooms like: do i want an alchemy lab or would a smiths workshop be better?
Hope somebody understands what i´m trying to say
Edit: First Post BTW
