Full Version: Who's pumped for Fable 2?

Hey folks. If you're like me, than you had a blast playing Fable on the original Xbox, or on your home PCs. As great as the game was, many players felt that the developers didn't deliver on many promises. This has supposedly been addressed in the upcoming sequel. I'll probably buy this the second I can clasp my greedy claws on a copy. What about you? If you're wanting to learn a little about it, then here is the Wiki article:

Maybe, if they port it to PC. And if they wait more than a month to do it then I expect something extra to be added and/or the price to be dropped, otherwise you're paying full price for an old product and that's just a blatant rip-off. I never support games that do that.
bluekatt
until this thread i wasnt even aware that there was going to be a fable 2
and nor doi care i didnt think much of the first one i doubt my opinion will differ greatly with the second one

I loved Fable, maybe because it was the first game I played wher you could choose the alignment of your hero properly. And it had a frying pan.

I didn't muh like The Lost Chapters storyline as much as the first one, though the Summoners were great enemies and i enjoyed slaughtering the good heroes for their souls .

Fable 2 is one the top of my list, especially because of the co-op they've added (and they have a sandgoose!). Also, no matter what people say, nothing is more evil than throwing your faithful, trusted canine companion off a cliff. Nothing.
Necromancer G
I cant wait for the second one. This time being able to have a child and the child's attitude and behavior being based off of your alignment meter. This is going to be great.
bluekatt
seeing is still believing
anmd i also belive kotor was there first with the whole choosing alignment through the course of actions thing
or possibly baldurs gate or neverwinternights

bioware has a hand in recyceling their games bit like rockstar

I've never understood how so many people could get behind Fable. My experience with the first game was disappointing. Then entire notion of alignment for which it's praised has been handled much better in other games, I feel. As for Fable 2, I've already seen one or two preview videos and will watch newer material in the near future. As it stands now I'm neither enthused or looking forward to it.
InfiniteRealm
Bluekatt, i said clearly itwas the first game I played. I was mainly a shooter person until a few years ago, when a friend introduced me to Fable, which got me onto RPG games. I've played Baldurs gate and KOTOR, but Fable I played first.

I also liked the graphics style. They were much more bright and colourful, which is a lovely change in the darker world of games like Call of Duty, Medal of Honour, etc.
doomjockey
Well, after reading up on some of the features, it seems they've really only upgraded the core functions of the first game to appropriate for the sequel...

...which is not so bad. Actually, I always said, "If the [nagging feature here] was a bit better..." and it seems they've decided to do just that. While I wasn't quite impressed with the original Fable, I feel that maybe this sequel could better address the problems I had with the first one so I'm willing to give it a shot. Count me as leaning towards enthusiasm.

Fable is a great game, it has a great story line and lush invironments, it also had many bugs and missing content, but it still managed to keep its coolness. Hopefully fable 2 will be even better.

Im going to get it, but im not excited like I used to be when I was younger. I used to be at the store early in the morning to get a copy of a game. Now it is not a race to me.

i will admit i didn't like the first fable i hope the second one will be a bit better

Fable was (is) a great game (to this one), and this one can't wait for numero dos. He is glad that it covers the mundane aspects of life too. Example: working, instead of questing for money As well as the family aspect. If it lives up to all of its promises and hype, it should be great. woot.gif woot.gif Oh, and this'll be me...... so if any of us wind up on x-box live or something (highly unlikely) this is how you can identify me. whoops.gif

i really hope they make it for PC. i don't have a 360 and i'm not gonna get one anytime soon
InfiniteRealm
By the looks of it fable 2 won't be coming out for PC, but they might follow the same trail as Mass Effect and GTA IV and make a PC version later on.

kresselack, I've never understood why anyone would line up at midnight to get a new game. In my experience, no game, not even Portal (which lets face it, is awesome tongue.gif) is worth standing in a cold line for ahalf the night to get.
floggingmolly22
I think.... (emphasis on the think) I think that eventually they are going to make a version of it for the PC. But that's just what I seem to recall hearing. teehee.gif

No, no, no. I guess you misunderstood. I mean around the time when the store opens during sunlight, not midnight. Simply before the crowd arrives.
StryderOfOblivion
Quite honestly, I can't wait another second wallbash.gif but, some say it will be a year or two before they release a PC version sad.gif

~Stryder~
InfiniteRealm
A year is unlikely, Lionhead is a company, driven to make profits, and if they release it in a few years all of the 'hype' about it will be pretty much gone, so they won't get much sales. Releasing a delayed but not by too much, perhaps a month or too, version, they will get a better income.
Cynical, huh...

--

Why not just preorder it online and wait for it in the comfort of your own crowdless home? tongue.gif
StryderOfOblivion
That is a good point, but its still what I read. And for those people without a 360, will probably hear that the game is super good and will still want to buy it when it comes out, unless they hear it is a bad game blink.gif
floggingmolly22
InfiniteRealm makes a good point..... They're likely to turn a better profit by releasing it a little bit after the initial (console) release.

The thing about pre-ordering though, is if you pre-order, and you're the 500th person to pre-order, you might get your order in later than that if you just went to the store a week or so after the initial release to buy it. By the same token though, your pre-order reserves you a copy whilst getting it from the store, you are at the mercy of the shipping, which, the employees conviently never know when the next truck, boat, plane, etc. with their merchandise arrives..........

I'm personally down for fable 2. I actually pre ordered the special edition copy and I never get SE versions of games. The last Game I knowingly bought an SE for was Halo 2 and I only did it for the special RVB episodes. The last game I got an SE for was WoW: TBC though. When I bought it I didn't realize it was a special edition of only BC I thought it had the whole thing. I was a bit frusterated that I spent $80 on an expansion but I got a really cool art book and an exclusive baby dragon pet. I also found out if I decide sell my account in 4 monthes I can get $500 off it just for the Netherwhelp not to mention I have 8 max level characters 2 of which are in the best PvE gear. Not sure if I'm going to sell it though. It all depends on who cool the new Death Knights in the upcoming expansion are and whether or not I like WAR better. I'm really excited about how the dogs AI is going to be. I'm looking forward to how they'll change based on my actions and I'd really like to see what kind of beast is created when I go pure evil. I get the feeling that about 50% of the people that hated the first fable only played it on the computer. Fable is one game I have to say is better on the console than the computer. I remember the hardest milstone in fable was te Darkwood trader mission. When I first played it I failed several times but by the end of my time spent playing fable I could clear it naked with my fists and a few support spells. On the computer I had a hard time doing it wearing chainmail and swinging wellow's pickhammer (the easiest legendary weapon to get at that time). Although I imagine many just plain disliked the game.
Palpenious
I had the most trouble getting that stupid kid out of the Hobbe cave. I think I told him to wait so I could clear the way, and he ended up getting killed from behind anyway. I am really looking forward to setting up a system of shops so I can buy up all the houses in town, and become the evil landlord Maleficus. The co-op is going to be really fun too, I think. I'm really glad that someone realizes not every one wants to, or can, get online to play games together. On a side note, I really think most people were disappointed with the first because they expected too much, though, it was Molyneax' fault for saying too much. But, if you just take it for what it is, Fable was a very fun, impressive game.
kungfubellydancer
I have Fable 1, on PC and Xbox, but I never got around to playing it. As a player of Guild Wars and the TES series, would it appeal to someone like me? I typically play Sci-fi, those are the only Fantasy series I play.
floggingmolly22
If you like the TES series, you will probably (probably) like Fable. You might find it a little short though.
Palpenious
Especially if the customization of your character is particularly appealing. The big downside to Fable is the character changes so much depending on your actions, but the world tends not to. Something that is supposed to be fixed in the sequel. But, only you can tell, play it for yourself. You should have some fun with it, even if it doesn't blow you away.

yay its coming out very soon, i heard oct21 at the latest-i ment confirmed.

news article: information

The player-determined character progression in the upcoming Xbox 360 exclusive Fable II may still be fluid, but its release date is not. Microsoft today nailed down an October 21 North American launch date for Lionhead's anticipated action role-playing game. The UK release will follow on October 24.
The basic concept of Fable II should be familiar to those who played its 2004 predecessor on the original Xbox. Gamers will role-play as a young hero in a fantasy world and make choices to turn that character into a heroic champion, loathsome villain, or something in between. However, Lionhead has added in a number of new wrinkles, including a faithful canine companion, the ability to play as either gender, and an array of ancillary concerns not involving swords and sorcery (marriage, children, real estate, and so on).

The release of Fable II will be preceded this month by the Xbox Live Arcade tie-in Fable II Pub Games. A collection of three casino-style minigames, Pub Games will let players build up a bank account that they will be able to tap into when the full version of Fable II launches.

As with many big-name releases, Fable II will be available in standard and collector's-edition packages at launch. The collector's edition will sell for $79.99. The extra $20 above and beyond the standard-edition price will net particularly enthusiastic gamers a bonus disc with making-of content, a figure of the game's Hobbe creatures, an in-game dungeon and cutlass, a trial Xbox Live Gold membership, and five printed "fate cards." Participating retailers will also be offering free entry to Pub Games as a preorder incentive when the XBLA game is released.

same date as (littlebigplanet) for the PS3, also getting that one two.

I'm pretty psyched for Fable 2, though I rather disliked Fable 1 because of its shortness, among other things. I think Peter Molyneaux might have raised our expectations a bit too high for Fable 2 though, it's bound to let us down. As M'aiq the liar would say: "People always enjoy a good fable. M'aiq has yet to find one, though. Perhaps one day."
doomjockey
Ha, I thought it was just me. I see like two interviews almost daily of Molyneux boosting Fable 2. I don't know whether it'll be good or bad, but wow so much press. Let's hope we don't file this under overhyped later.
Thanodai
I really enjoyed playing Fable: TLC on the PC. Although it was entirely too short, and no matter how evil or good you were, one decision at the end essentially determined if you were good or evil which made every decision you made along the way effectively pointless. Sorta like KOTOR.

But that one huge peeve aside, I really did enjoy playing it, actually, I've played it through several times now and I don't think I ever get tired of slaughtering entire villages and buying all the property up and renting it to the re-spawned inhabitants.

Hopefully Fable 2 will be just as fun, and though I won't buy it for the 360, I'll certainly be waiting for it on PC.

Thor.
8 more days tell fable 2, at the EBgames stores they say the 22nd of October, ive already pre orderd my copy, what about you.

Also getting ps3's LitleBigPlanet, same date.
jojo man
Just a week away. I can hardly wait. I'll be grabbing my copy the first chance I can.
Javalin
I wouldn't get so hyped up for it.

I've known such cases how games were so hyped for, and then became a huge dissapointment sad.gif

Halo 2- Was crap compared to the first.. It was rushed.
Call of Duty: World at War (Beta edition is out) VERY dissapointing
GTA IV: This wasn't as good as I first expected.
Thor.
Try searching youtube, there are already gameplay videos out and they look pretty good compared to the original, of course thats coming from a fable fan biggrin.gif. Anyway lets hope the hype is true.
Sangel2525
Pumped? I'm friggen crawling on walls awaiting it! XD I actually bought an X-box 360 just for it! Well I did get a few games in waiting such as Bioshock, which was interesting, and Mass Effect, which was fun albeit sidequests were boring. But Fable 2! Fable 2! My ex had an X-box, and I loved the original, based on what I know of the sequel it will be occupying a great deal of my free time once it comes out. I even pre-ordered the special edition! blink.gif
Thor.
Man im pumped maybe darkone could make a thread designed for fable 2 mods, for instants mod requests, when it comes out for pc. The original had many mods for it, maybe it'll be the same with fable 2.

InfiniteRealm

Thor.
2 more days left, dam this is one of the fiew games that are goiog to be hugely epic, i could see myself buying every house building and castle in the game, cant wait.

its been awhile since i ever really got so excited about game its crazy.

jojo man
Well, so far i've been having a blast playing the game. Evil dirt-bag that I am, I own all of the slums(stores and vendor stalls included), and am charging the already hardpressed residents double the normal rent rate. Anyone else here done similar?
Thor.
No not yet, i only bought 6 houses and haven't left oakville yet lol, its a great game so far.

off topic

One problem that i hate about the xbox 360 is it that it has a ati chipset, and the refresh rates are horrable, also the lack of V.Sync.
Wrath_Of_Deadguy01
I'm not evil enough. I've been playing the "good" side of things... allowing, of course, exceptions for the generous numbers of bandits I've been slaughtering with gun and sword.

The dog has to be one of the best-implemented (if not the best) pets in the history of gaming- his pathfinding is pretty good, he succeeds in distracting and finishing off enemies, and the whole sniffing out buried treasure bit continues to be helpful. He's found quite a few hidden goodies that I wouldn't have even noticed while en route to complete quests.

I can't say whether I like the way purity/corruption is determined, though- I can't help but feel that the player is punished a bit too much for the occasional pie or drinking binge, while not being given nearly enough credit for eating 'healthy' foods and frequent exercise (i.e. traveling a lot and fighting). It shouldn't be quite as simple as becoming a blimp after a few game hours of indulgence. That's a fairly minor complaint, though- eating more veggies does balance out the occasional vice.

The only other complaint I have is that the expressions are a bit too cartoonish. The game is more whimsical than something like Oblivion or Morrowind, and that's part of the appeal, but the first time I saw my on-screen avatar break out in a face-deforming grin, chest puffed out, just to throw a thumbs-up sign at someone- against the general atmosphere of the game, it seemed very out of place. It isn't, however, something that must be done all the time in order to progress, but it would've helped maintain immersion if the animations had been... deemphasized a bit.

Other than that, great game- easily the best $60 I've spent on a game in the past few years. It runs well, has very few bugs (and no game-breakers that I've yet run into, which is more than can be said of most releases), and is incredibly addictive in that time-eating sort of way that very few titles ever manage to achieve. The difficulty curve is shallow, but I think that was a wise decision- eliminating the looming specter of death (and the accompanying compulsion to save before turning every corner) has the very welcome effect of keeping the player in the world- not dealing with loading screens because the last miniboss pulled an unstoppable desperation combo out of its arse. A little more thought could've gone into the mechanics of being 'knocked out' (maybe a loss of game time or something else, i.e. being thrown in a cell then having to break out), but I'm happy enough that I don't need to look over my shoulder every five seconds for that one enemy with that one uber-powerful attack... I sank quite a few hours into the game the first time I plugged it in precisely because there was no sudden break in the gameplay prompting me to check the clock- which, IMHO, is one of Fable 2's greatest accomplishments.

In case you couldn't tell, I'm with the camp that says "death" as such is an obsolete concept in a singleplayer game- we all know the player is going to reload the last save and play as if it hadn't happened anyway, so why force them to re-play whole sections of the game- which will, no matter how 'hardcore' the gamer, eventually frustrate and annoy- when you could introduce some other mechanic to substitute for death? Immersion is what makes a singleplayer game, especially an RPG, enjoyable for the vast majority of its players, and there is nothing in gaming that pops my suspension of disbelief faster than dying. The game is supposed to be a story, and when the main character dies the story ends- death and reloading a save being analogous to scrubbing out the last paragraph of a book and re-writing it every few minutes so you can go on reading. Hero being outnumbered, outmatched, and knocked on his/her arse as the Big Bad Monster closes in = dramatic tension. Hero being butchered and cutting to a loading screen = bad ending followed by denial.

9/10, and that's only because there are some minor issues- such as the occasional AI hanging up on a doorway, the dog occasionally trying to reach loot via an impassable barrier, the over-exaggerated expressions, etc. Nothing at all that would in any way keep this game from being worth every single penny of its price tag.

Agreed. I'll admit, that at first, I was skeptical about having a dog tag along and spoonfeed me info, but it's turned out to be an excellent addition.

I agree with this too. During the crucible, I went into it being the epitome of physical fitness. During the course of the fighting though, I wolfed down 2 Blueberry pies, and some Rancid beef jerky, and suddenly I was rotund enough to double as a wagon wheel. And it's taken me a fair bit of time getting myself back into fighting form.

I don't disagree that they're a little over the top, but I got a few good 'n cheap laughs out of them. If you haven't already, try deliberately botching the fart expression.

And I agree with this as well. It seems the developers have addressed (to varying degrees) some issues that have been at the very least nuisances in other games.
