DarkOne, this is hilarious. Your censor won't even display Vin Diesel's stage name from the "Pitch Black" & "Chronicles of" motion pictures. Can't it be tweaked a little bit to recognize the three letters before what it wrongly supposes is an obscenity? Vin Diesel's stage name isn't obscene.

I think the problem with that would be that people who curse a lot ( like me ) tend to be really creative with certain words... ok ok... all words. Trying to teach the auto censor to distinguish between profane words and non-profane with 'questionable' lettering would be quite an extensive task and would also result in people being able to trick the filter into letting them curse on the forums by simply adding more letters to the profane word (something that I do anyway just for fun).

I'm pretty sure I've never went full-blown sailor potty-mouth here on Nexus and I do not plan to, but I think the safest and easiest way is to just let the auto censor block certain letters that are arranged in a certain way, which is what it does now. Yes, it's annoying when those letters are just part of an innocent word, but it's the most realistic way to keep the bad stuff out.

Because the filter can not tell the difference between the movie:
The Adventures of Mr Rid%&$!
and the porn
The Adventures of Ms Suc%&$!

So it's best to just block them both. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the explanation. Since I don't partake in posting obscenities, I don't think about trying to circumvent the censor. I only wanted an actor's name to be displayed as standard text, instead of being mislabeled as obscene.

Aye, it is a shame that this is even necessary but some people find it impossible to stop themselves typing obscenity for some reason.

This has now been changed. The definitions were set to "loose" instead of "exact"

I think the solution people were looking for here was that you remove "%&$!" from the filter list entirely. After all,

1. It's in the title of other works---EG, Moby %&$! and %&$! Tracy;
2. It's a common first name; and
3. Penis remains uncensored, which is just ass-backwards.

I know that with the type of audience that a site hosting mainly nude mods attracts, some filtering helps to keep things mature and civilized. However, filtering words like %&$!, which should have more legitimate uses than offensive ones, makes users feel that this forum is specifically geared toward children.

Changing the filter to exact matches won't stand anyways, since expletives are used most often in modified forms. Exact matches only keeps peoples' mouths clean if they have impeccable grammar (and aren't German).

Great news. I went through 4 of the Riddick mods uploaded here and fixed every occurrence of his name in the threads.
