hey I searched the forums pretty well and I didn't find anything like what I'm going to ask for, but if it has been made just provide a link to where I can download it and no harm done
so i was wondering if someone could make a mod that changes the animation of when you put a staff away, instead of magically sticking it to your back, maybe using it as a walking stick?
it could even have a first person view change to see the staff movements
if someone could make this it would be real cool!

I just wanted to say that this is what I've been looking out for ever since I bought oblivion in 2006, such a mod would certainly make my day

I also think a lot of mage-playing people around here are quite bothered by their staff flying an inch of their wizard's back, and would love to see their wizards use their staff like... a.... staff

yea... maybe... the use of a staff like a cane is what i'm looking for, but these mods give me something entirely different- all im looking for is a change in animation from putting on your back to using it like a walking stick like gandalf
but thanks for lookin around
if this mod isn't made yet, would any modder be up to making it?I know it can be done because I have a mod that makes it so I cast spells like a lich (rising off the ground and throwing it) - that mod changes the animation - the only difference I see is that the lich animation was already made by bethesda, and what im asking for needs to be created

The only(?) way to keep a weapon as a walking cane/staff is to have it as a torch. The problem with that is that the weapon bone is on the right hand, while the torch bone's on the left. Creating two versions of each staff - a normal and a torch one - and swapping those with a script shouldn't be a problem, the problem would be that the character would keep switching hands which's understandable undesireable.

Why would they switch hands? Staffs are used two handed, if anything it would just look awkward moving the hand really high up the staff then down again when you use it.

The torch thingies don't reach the ground and clip with the legs quite badly when they have the length of a staff (they stick right through them)

Doesn't sound like much of a problem, I'll take a look at it once home.

well... in that case.. I have a little tip for torch-like staves.
If you don't like the staff sticking through your legs, you could try what I do, wear a cape, then you wont see the part where the staff goes through your leg

Neah, I'm actualy thinking about rotating the model a bit so that it's out of the leg axis. Might look weird, but no clipping.

so would it look like you actually have a walking stick or would it look like running around with an overly large torch?

Don't know what progress is like, but there is a
mod that touts "Act Like Sheogorath". Currently, all that has been completed is that when you have his staff out, you idle like he does. However, there are plans to make you walk with the cane also.

actually, I'm using that mod atm, it works pretty well with the staff of Sheogorath, but since other staves are larger, they stick through your hand

I'll go take a screenie of it
Roelmaestro
Aug 12 2008, 06:29 AM

As you can see, it sticks right through the hand of my wizard

the staff of Sheogorath does fit nicely though...
I haven't seen other staves than the one of Sheogorath that fits (And I have used hundreds of staves

)
EDIT: you also look a tad.... feminish with your left hand on your side as you can see, that's also done by the walk of sheogorath animation

Bet it does indeed..

and Aegimundus (the wizard guy) doesn't like it xD

Kperks, I believe this might be what you're looking for. I believe it has an .esp file named "Walk like Sheogorath".

Sadly, the "Walk like Sheogorath.esp" only works nicely if used with the staff of Sheogorath, otherwise, well... check out the picture I've posted

Would there be a way to just change the hand? Well, maybe both...
The left arm to just normal, the other to holding the staff, when walking use it as a walking stick and yeah...
Roelmaestro
Aug 13 2008, 08:02 AM
Let's hope someone with animating skills would do that... I wouldn't be able to do that... I'm barely able to make worthless retextures

I still think that if possible, it would be a very populair mod

But you do have the staff if SI is completed. It's too valuable to sell. I installed the "Bag of Holding" mod so I could have unlimited carrying & no encumbrance problems.
The main reason I keep that staff is because I had to work so darn hard to get it.
Roelmaestro
Aug 13 2008, 10:29 AM
yeah... but I don't like walking around with a staff that's got a bleeding eyeball on it

I'm not a necromancer after all xD

so is someone definitely going to try to make this mod? the walk like sheogorath mod looks like the closest thing there is to what I've suggested, but the thing is, if it's used with another staff, it goes through your hand, and I'm pretty sure you have to have SI in order to use that mod, and I don't have it
maybe all that has to be done is rotate the hand that has the staff in it so it looks like your holding it rather than... having your hand impaled on it?
Roelmaestro
Aug 16 2008, 05:49 PM
indeed, but we'd still need someone with animating experience to do such a thing :S

well i found that if you have OOO with the walklikesheo.esp the redone OOO staffs work nicely with it well it did for me anyway... the hand works fine so you may just need OOO

That seems like quite a big mod for such a small change... maybe I'll dl it just for that though

it would change my gameplay so much
