So when I came here I figured that it would mostly be people my age here. I've come to realize though that there are quite a few adults here playing oblivion, so I'm just curious as to what the average age of people is here.
troy896

Many people don't tend to listen to the ESRB, and I think the game was originally T-Rated until the nude mods came out and prompted them to take another look at it. Either way, the ESRB isn't law or anything.

I'm sixteen, and was playing Oblivion significantly younger. biggrin.gif

In south africa the game got rated 16+. Don't know what version we are using in SA though, I think it's the American version. SA is very slack when it comes to age restrictions. I bought GTA: San Andreas when I was only 14.

Actually from what I heard Bethesda somehow managed to hide the realm of Oblivion from the ESRB saving it from the M rating. It was later found so the game got pulled and re deistributed with the M rating. I still have a case that has the original T rating for my Xbox. Mods made from anyone not affiliated with the publishers or developers are not held accountable for a games rating. Before you bring up the Hot coffee mod from GTA:SA that was a different case because the programming code was already part of the game it was however hidden some person mearly found it and unlocked it.
Currently I'm 19 and steadily aging. Right now my COD 4 clan ranges from 12-17 and I'm considered the creepy old guy. That's going to change when Cpt.Apathy and Col.Animosity join our clan. Those old SOB's are going on 60.

Well, 40+ implies everyone that is the age of 40 or higher, so 60+ would fall under that too. tongue.gif

And I know the ESRB isn't law, it's just most parents tend to not get things for their younger children if they have to show id to buy it.

I thought it was the Dark Brotherhood stuff that actually pushed it over... All I said was that the nude-mod controversy got them to look at it again, but that's just hearsay I suppose...

I'm not 100 percent sure either but this discussion came up in one of my game development buisness classes last semester. We spent a week on video game controversy and Oblivion took up 3 of those 5 days. Apperently Oblivion is one of the most controversial games. Not to the media like GTA but to the industry itself. It's not technically bad controversy either. The controversy surrounding Oblivon is because it's one of the most modder friendly game that entire sites (like the nexus) are devoted soley to making mods for the game. Basically some companies think Bethesda is using underhanded methods by using a third party (us) to essentially create content for their game and in turn help sell it. They think that Bethesda is basically using slave labor. Others are concerned about the adult content flooding into the mod community and are concerned it will affect children. Should that be true the ironic thing about that is, you need to be 17 to buy the game. Then finally there are those that thing games like oblivion are a huge break through in the gameing industry and Bethesda should be looked up to as pioneers in the gaming industry. My instructor was a member of a semi large development company owned by microsoft. Just in case the question pops up he was in the 3rd category.

Well, I voted in the 40+ group, because I AM blush.gif

Oh bloody hell, thanks a bunch.

Couldn't you have run this poll before 8th May when I turned 40?

Or how about at least adding more categories besides just 40+? tongue.gif

Cheers, young whippersnapper.

Edit - Anyway, that is only our official age. I think anybody playing games is a lot younger at heart and it is a good way to remain so. smile.gif

Same here 40+ ( over 60). I guess the person running this poll did not think anyone over 60 would play Oblivion.

Technically, beating out all the other categories doesn't put said category in the majority. 16-25 has more, for example.

Umm, eh? What? There is no 16-25 category. You can't just lump two categories together in order to prove my point moot. tongue.gif

Wow, 40+ means everyone over the age of forty. Sixty is over the age of forty. I could have kept going up to ninety, but I figured that most people would understand that.

Heh, when I was 16 I got halo, but since i was under 17 i had my dad buy it for me, and they carded him. It was so dumb.
Tallhat
Impressive to see how many 40+ players there are. Would never have thought that. Here in Denamark hardly anyone over 40 ever touches a computer. Im just teaching my dad how to use his first !ever! computer these days. How one can live without a good PC and good games I do not know.
bben46
Not a very linear distribution. Your categories are 2,7,4,5,4 and more than 50 years respectively. Most polls - especially political polls, are carefully written to return the specific data the will 'prove' whatever the pollster wants to prove. Thus making most polls scientifically meaningless. Just like statistics. What kind of data were you looking for? What are you trying to prove or to show with your poll? That only kids play computer games? Then I must be a kid if that is so. I can accept that.

Another 40+ ( plus 22 actually)

I would assume, if that was the case, there would have been options for those younger than 16 ratings-be-damned and the 16-18 category would have been larger. I really don't think any intentional bias or spin went into this.

The complaint is that the contents of 60+ in relation to 40+ would have been as interesting as any other poll option.
bben46
Login, I don't think there was any intended bias either. just poking a little fun and bringing out how skewed his results will be. There is a whole new demographic coming into computer games. Those who are retired and are looking for something to fill the time. I know several of those. I am one myself, and I don't particularly like golf or TV.

I just turned 33 a week ago tomorrow ( the day gandalftw posted) I don't feel a day over 30, lol.

Just to clear up a misconception, The re-rating of Oblivion had nothing to do with violence present in the realm of Oblivion or the Dark Brotherhood it was because a player mod unlocked the already present anatomical correctness of the games races, in other words, nudity.

And... I quite clearly remember already answering that question here in another poll.

But well, okay, I'm twenty six.
