Are you using Windows XP or Vista? Any service packs installed?
EDIT: Also, what exactly are your system specs? I've looked at your profile, but it doesn't provide the information. I'm not entirely sure that knowing them would help, but it couldn't hurt any either.

You may have some defective hardware piece. Informing the kind of error, how, when, where... may help knowing why.
If is when you start some 3D application (games?) may imply failing video card or overloaded power supply. random may be RAM and so on.

Edit: I'm not sure enough what you mean for reinstalling everything, may be a software problem too, but what you are describing seems to point more than just it.

windows XP

i did nothing new to the PC this problem just popped out of no where no new progarms installed on that day. no virses detcted

it crashes ( eg Oblvion) when u load the launcher it crashes before it loads and after it scans your graphics card

this pc is 3 years old and no problems no crashes no problems

some games work still Crysis and KOTOR but LOTR BFME 1 and 2 dont same with oblvion they just all crash

XP was reinstall 3rd of June due to a major problem ( powerpack overheated hardrives dead) after that it all ran smoothly

i think its something silly since Oblvion haves a folder for save gams in there + config stuff for it i think oblvion and LOTR cant get acess to the folder even though its isnt privite or hidden i did make it hidden and private and thats when the problem happained

i tried reinstalling DirectX 9.0c and the drivers for it ( i use a Nvida Graphics Card ) and no changes

Memory is quite a lot but i dont think it would cause the problem

all i can think off at this rate

As someone else mentioned it's possible that your power supply is failing. Other than that, it's really hard to say with such limited information, being there is always the easiest way to see the problem.

yes i did think that but i dont think it is i changed it 2 weeks ago with a new one no problems there

You say this happened when you changed some of the permissions for Oblivion and LOTR. If you made some of the files 'invisible' make sure you can access them again after changing them back to visible.

Oblivion has problems when you are not set up and signed on as an administrator.

Be certain you are logged on as an administrator. Then check the permissions for the Oblivion folder and the separate folder in the documents and settings. Be sure you have the permissions for all Oblivion folders set to you or to administrator. You may want to go as far as checking the privileges for the sub folders also. I am not sure that Vista might have even more layers of 'security', such as their UAC. As I still use XP.

Mmm, good point. Vista has a lot of problems with releasing permissions/ permission layers. I have found that even setting a folder to enable permissions on all subfolders I can check immediately afterward and find the permissions have not been released on all subfolders. On top of that, I had a long discussion with Microsoft directly when I bought this HP pc as I had an immediate problem with HP support so Microsoft kindly assisted me directly.. the upshot of which was that Vista's "Administrative" accounts are not true Administrator accounts as we have come to know them in previous MS releases. Enabling it is dependent on the version of Vista you are running, and MS considers enabling it risky.

This has now been documented online.

What errors do these games give? And even if there's no error messages, it doesn't mean it hasn't saved it in a file somewhere else - Oblivion often puts stuff in ProgramFlow.txt, in its root directory, for example.

If its any error involving something like 'Access Denied', 'Insufficient permissions', 'Unable to open file', etc, then it is something to do with your documents folder being marked as private/hidden/etc

In general, its best not to make any changes at all to your base My Documents folder, as it can mess up all sorts of stuff, and limited users cant view it anyway, so theres no point. tongue.gif

its now fixed i somehow made Appaucation Data hidden in my docs its nows working as it was thanks for all your help and i hope to repay the favor
