Now, don't get me wrong: in its time, I quite enjoyed seeing Spambane get swung. When moderators get itchy trigger-fingers, that just makes it all the more fun. In fact, the brief glimmer of hope that old-school MWSource--style public bannings would make a comeback had me excited about this site for the first time since September 2007. However, even I think that the current state of affairs is just ridiculous.
To the unaware, I'm referring to the new "one and done" policy. This policy allows and instructs moderators to ban any member that gives an Oblivion mod a rating of 1, whether intentional or accidental. People are getting banned left and right because of it. Furthermore, the reason for the ban is always given as "trolling" (which doesn't insult the bannee so much as it does me).
Now, why does the option to give a mod a rating of 1 exist if exercising it results in an instant ban? It would be more reasonable to eliminate 1 from the rating system altogether and make 2 the lowest possible rating one could give to a mod. Better yet, you could make it such that the only possible ratings are 7, 8, 9, and 10. That would surely appease modders while keeping member bannings to a minimum.
