Full Version: Objects disappearing when placed with CS?

I placed 3 swords close to each other (Approx. 1 ft. away from each other). I load a save to come get them in the game. First time was good. All the swords were there. Second time i load to come get them, 1 of the 3 swords were missing. Tried it several time, once there were 2 swords missing.

I placed the object like 4 ft. from the ground to avoid them clipping under the ground and disappearing. Still they disappear when i load a second time (I am using weapons from another plugin, not the Oblivion master file).

What's going on?

On occasion I've seen things fall through the floor when they really shouldn't... Did you try toggling Havok physics on them and seeing what happens? That's all I can think of that might be causing it, anyways...

Also if there are NPC's nearby, they might "kick" them and indirectly causing some clipping which might cause them to drop through the ground, had this happen to me twice, albeit most likely it isn't a common issue. I usually just add the items I want on NPC's I know aren't edited by any of my other mods and then just go whack the target to death. smile.gif

Yeah, did that. Still disappearing. So i guess placing items in containers is best? But i rly like to have items outside and pick them up. feels cooler.

As long as you know where the containers are, or if you're placing a custom container. NPC's are >>usually<< just easier to locate. wink.gif

are you using models from others mods?

He is trying to mod them for himself without using the mods that add large worldspaces and cause him ctd's. If this was to be published, he'd have to get permission from the original authors, or simply add .esp without required meshes/textures so the people would have to download the original work, but this is all beside the point. Hopefully we've given enough tips so he can get it to work. smile.gif

No, because if he is referencing files from another mod selected in the CS it may be a problem. It may work in his own setup, but the item may disappear or even crash the game if the original mod is missing or the load order changes.

Edit: this is why I asked if he was using models from another mod instead vanilla model. If is an ESM OK but not if ESP... and of course just "IF he is doing so"

If he is modeling himself my question don't apply at all. the issue would be of other nature.

Actually not, the filepaths where the meshes/textures are, should always be the same and in 99.99% of the cases are, unless some jackass wants to rename the folder/mesh/texture file. tongue.gif The only possible error I could think of would be with the difference in the disk where the game and textures/meshes are installed, but that should be quite easy to fix, and for all I know, the .esp auto-detects the oblivion main folder where the textures should be and will look there for the files in question.

edited: disregard this repply

Haven't faced any of the aforementioned problems with over 150 mods running so far, could just be me being lucky about not having conflicts like it. But yeah, our discussion could be held in a place where the expertise is needed. ;>

Yes.. anyway I edited my previous post since the mod not directly referencing any object from the other mod (just pointing to its meshes and textures), only the missing would be an issue. The only major issue would be if the files were copied to the own mod with own structure and just if the path to the texture into the dds isn't changed to reflect it.

ok, here it is-

What i want: Take a sword (or swords) from a mod that is composed of more that just the sword (houses, music, NPC's, etc.) and put that sword (or those swords) into Oblivion without it disappearing from the game every second time that i load the game.

Info: I don't really think i want models from another mod. Heck, i'm not even modding for the public internet users. I'm just tweaking the mods that i download for my tastes. What i'm really trying to do is extract (or isolate) a weapon (that to me seems nice) from a vastly complicated mod (let's say the case is that this sword isn't available for separate download)

I hope this clarifies things.

My Question: How would you make these swrods now vanish?

If you are doing this just for yourself you can copy the textures and meshes files relative to the items you want to your meshes and textures folders (preferable maintaining the original structure). What you must be aware is the mesh file have a path to the texture, you can aways edit this path with some tool like nifscope if you for some reason can't keep the same path as the original.

Here's what i did. I deleted everything in the mod except for the weapons "GRUP" in CS. Then, i place these weapons in a certain location.

First, i load, go there, and take the three swords that i isolated in the mod, kill someone then Second, i load the save game again and 1 or 2 of the three swords are missing.

I already got the swords, their models, their textures, etc. It's just they're vanishing when i load my save games 2 or more times.
