I've started this thread to help those people who are having trouble logging into the site to get to the download section.
First of all, as you will have noticed if you registered, site and forum registration is integrated. So if you register on the forums, you register for the site also. HOWEVER, this is not the same for logging in. So, if you're logged in on the forums you may not necessarilly be logged in to the site also.
An easy way to check if you're logged into the site is if, in the top left corner of the site, it says "Welcome <username>!" rather than "Create an account". If it says "Create an account" you aren't logged in. Another check is to go to "Your Account" (on the left nav). If it takes you to a login page, you aren't logged in.
Login is easy - on the main page you can type your details into the login box to the right, or you can go to "Your Account" and login there.
If you continue to have problems...
First off, check your internet options (Tools -> Internet Options)
Go to "Privacy" and make sure it is set to "Medium" or less. Any higher and you'll have problems
Next, click on the edit button, still in the privacy tab under "Websites" and add "k-hosting.co.uk" and "mwsource.com" to the list - make sure they are set to "always allow" rather than "always block".
----
If, when you register your username and password and try to login to the site, it doesn't work, then you've done something wrong. No offense, but the server isn't selective as to who it lets into the site, 500 people a day wouldn't be able to register for the site and use it fine if it wasn't working.
Hope this helps some people.

That's all fine and great for most people that have no problems.
My account was created, activated and profile modified without any problems save one.
The main web site still won't let me log in or access the Downloads area.
No, I did not do something wrong.
Yes, I do have First-Party cookies enabled.
Perhaps Third-Party cookies have to be enabled??
This seems like a web site worth telling my friends about, so please help me out and don't just tell me I did something wrong.

Well, as an experiment I've just tried loggin in to the main site, and had no problems.
As for cookies, my privacy settings are at medium level.

Now this is getting rediculous.
I have done a manual account confirmation to make absolutely certain that my account does not have any problems and I still can not access anything other than the forums.
While logged in this evening and with security settings set on Medium as Theta Orionis has said to use, I clicked on the link to the main site and attempted to access the download area. I was immediately told I was trying to enter a restricted area. I logged in a second time on the main page and after clicking on Login, I was informed that I was using an invalid user ID or password.
WHAT GIVES?!?!?
I do not understand why this is happening, but my opinion of this web site is beginning to decline because of the lack of direct support to a fellow MEMBER of this site. You folks that moderate and administer this site have my E-mail address and should be able to fix this, so how about fixing this problem and E-mailing me when you are done to tell me that I as a MEMBER of this site can log on.
This is just plain irritating....

I have tried some trouble-shooting with my account as a MEMBER of this site without success so far.
I have tried every privacy setting available in MSIE all the way down to accept all cookies. Still no success.
I have tried logging in first in the forums area only. Still no success.
I have tried logging out of the forums area and only logging in at the main page.
Still no success; the main page does not recognize my account name at all.
Indications are that the members database is not shared accross both sites and that my user name is only listed in the forums database and NOT in the main site members database.
There is a glitch here and it would be nice if someone would fix it - some day...

I hate to be a spoiler, but there is something wrong with the log in on the page. I'm showing as registered on the forums, but I still show "create an account" on the main page. If I try to log in on the main page, I get a message that it's an invalid account. I've tried logging out and back in, which works from in the forum. I've also tried creating a second account with a different name. I just can't log on to the download section.
I'm glad to see this site, and I liked Morrowind Chronicles. But I can't use it if I can't log in. Seriously, I know what I'm doing, and I'm not doing anything wrong.

Here is an Idea!!!!!!!!!! How about you make the DL section avalible to guest, like Morrowind Files, before they stoped working on vanything. Anyone could acess them, maybe if you did that, you wouldnt have so many problems. if you think that wont get members, then set-up an account system where you get better DL speed if you sign-up. Examples of this are www.surclaro.com
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
btw, I'm having the same problems, iut says my account dosnt exist.

Still no luck. I've played with the privacy and cookie settings, and that's not the problem. I can log on and off of the forums freely, but it doesn't show up on the main site, and I get an error message when I try to log in there. I'm glad the site is getting so much traffic, but apparently I'm not one of the lucky 500 per day.
Any suggestions?

Wait until I port the site over to the new server. At the moment I'm using PHPNuke 5.4 - but on the new server it will be 6.0. Maybe this will resolve it?
Hope so. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Yeah, might be nice if you fixed this. I've signed up, using Mozilla Firebird, and IE6, crap in both no matter what settings I use. And funnily enough, it logs into the -forums- here, just fine. Not the download page, which is honestly the only thing I really care about at the moment, being new to Morrowind. Why the heck do you have a free membership system setup for download access, anyway? And a non-working one, at that.
Anyone know any sites with mods, besides this one? I've not had much luck following links and Googling.

This is irritating to the point of me wanting to give up.
So, Darkone... any other suggestions that have not been posted in this thread yet?
I've followed all the above instructions and still no dice.
Only thing I can think to do is try a new log in ID, but I happen to like my current one. I emailed you asking your to DELETE my account, if you had no further suggestions on how to fix this problem.
Perhaps if you posted exact instructions what this site requires in the way of cookies, 1st party, 2nd party, 18th party or whatever, we who are concerned with our privacy can keep it and still access mwsource.com.
I hate jumping through unessesary hoops and usually refuse to. So, feel complimented that I've been willing to jump through some of yours. ;P

i too am having problems logging into the main page.
i've also tried everything i can think of, as well as everything that was suggested, and still no luck.
the forum log in is super smooth and the forums are nice and everything, but i really wanted access to all the wonderful downloads i remember this site having.
any thoughts on why this affects some and not others?

I was able to fix the problem by switching my web browser from explorer to netscape 7.1. I think the reason may have been because of some new security update at the windows update site.

I seem to be having the same problem as the rest that have posted here.
I originally was able to log on to the Main site when it was still the Library prior to the server move, until WinXP dumped my user profile and all my settings. In the process I lost my original email that gave me my loggin password. Today, I was able to log into the forum by following the link you sent that allowed me to change my password. However, this password does not allow me to log into the Main site. I set my internet options as suggested earlier in this thread. This did not help. I really don't want to create a new account and lose my Login name (grown quite fond of it).
Help!

Well, if you experience this problem then use the old login info (you're using now) for the forums, and make a new account to access the downloads section

Still no changes?
The "Registered Users Only"-Bug is still active.
I will download Files but I can't.
I will use one Account and not two.
And why hasn't the Main-Page a "Login"-Area like the other Game-Pages?
I hope you fix that fast.

Just to add my two cents...
I can register and log in just fine...
But I can't get to the down-load area...
Only the forum.
It shows and not logged in whenever I head out of the forum.
I don't understand why I can get to some places and not others...
I'm beginning to think that the problem is with the 'directions' to the download site and not with anything I've done wrong.
PS: This is a brand new account - just created a day or so ago.

Welcome to the Forums Lady Rae!!
To answer your question; with the old site <before DarkOne redone it> I would have to log in to the main page as well as the forums. Have you tried this?

When I log in I'm sent immediately to the forums, there is no apparent way to login on the main page...
But - to make things even more frustrating - now that I've complained, it appears to be working just fine. - figures

All it took was my whining I guess

Seems a bit odd, but it looks like something with the login script/cookie isn't well liked by Opera (7.20), and I can't seem to login to the mainpage at all with Opera, but IE6 has no trouble. Either that or CSS differences causing trouble anyway

.
[ Edit / Add ]
Just noticed something with the forum links that pretty much answered where the difference is for me at least.
It wouldn't login to "www.mwsource.com" because the cookie was set by "mwsource.com". Going to mwsource.com instead logged in properly.
Me big smart sorry for wasting time

Just tried several times to login during a couple of weeks to get to the mods section. Every time i have had a screen inviting me to log in. Every time after successful login i was brought to forums. No way to get to the mods section altogether, every attempt to get there starts the circle once more. Seems the admins have oustmarted themselves again

Since i'm an admin of some kind in other place it doesn't surprise me at all

What's surprising me it's that the problem is still standing. It's not entirely my problem, i'm seeing other posts with the same question on the board. In my experience, however, usually only about 10% or so of users are asking questions, the majority are just leaving not to return

Shame, i'd love to see the mods all the same

Well you'll find that the system does actually work, its just not capatible with browsers other than IE, and seeing how I don't use other browsers, it doesn't look as though it'll be fixed. Sorry! (use IE).

Definitely, even Opera does not show it right, IE look is more better, altogether it's only an illusion, behaviour is the same - login, foums, at attempt to go to the main page "Not looged in" :angry2:

I am using IBM Browser under IBM OS/2 Warp 4.5, as I have since I first registered on this site. I had problems for a short time when things changed and Netscape did not work under Windows or OS/2. You fixed that, until now. I have 'accept all cookies'. There is no facility for accepting or blocking specific websites, as there is is under Netscape in Windows. (I don't use the Internet under Windows as Windy is too vulnerable and there are virtually no viruses, etc. that attack Warp) My Windows box is for Morrowind !
I hope you get this sorted as you have been a good site for downloads as I can use my FTP downloader that is resumable. Thank you for your efforts on the site and for trying to sort this problem out.

There are still problems related to login on this site. I am now using the Internet options requested but I still can not get to the download section, I will be asked to login again.
I dont know if there has been any updates done fairly recently to this site. I have not been registered more than about 2 weeks, and at the time I registered I did not have any problems. At that time I didnt even use the requested Internet Options, therefore the problems should be related to changes made quite recently.
Hopefully this will help anyone trying to debug.

If it were not for this login bug, I would probably just get rid IE when I update my system next. This dumb compatibility bug is very bad. Every web developer should develop sites according to the web standard and not microsofts strange messed up one.
It's bugs like this that force people into using IE, instead of better webrowsers!
Also why is this site only distributing mods through http/ftp servers, when it could be simply posting p2p links to them and not wasting bandwidth on hosting them?
What would it take for this site to have such p2p links added?
Also so other users know, there are many mods being distributed through the gnutella networks and edonkey2000.
I bet this sites bandwidth requirements would be significantly dropped by adding p2p links. Heck it couldn't hurt.
Anyways I've noticed frequent database related problems in relation to the downloads. The content db seems very buggy and flakey.

Microsoft pretty much made the web standard. IE is compatible with almost ALL code. Its the fools who made browsers like FireFox that decided not to make their browser compatible with some code...especially PHP coding.
Live with it.

Lol, browsers like mozilla, firefox, opera, etc. They are made according to the standard. Only Internet Explorer follows it's own standard and has strange features.
There are two standards Internet Explorer and everything else.
Well never mind the Internet Explorer vs. Other browser issues. There are pleanty of other issues that this sites users have.
Such as trouble downloading from the database (assuming that they can access it at all). For example an couple of the recent mods don't seem to be downloadable. I've noticed that this is an frequent issue.
To resolve many of these problems it would be nice if mod authors would share thier mods through one of the large open peer to peer networks and post an link to them in the database entries. That way even if the database has problems or something goes wrong, users would still be able to download the databases content.
I'm currently working on creating peer to peer download listings for many mods, addons, etc. Unfortunately it's taking some major time to create them.
Reguardless of my efforts much of the content was already being shared over various peer to peer networks, so all I've really done is provide an somewhat stable source and soon will be providing an listing on my website.
Ideally distributing them from an http/ftp server would be the fastest and best way. However the bandwidth requirements on such an server would be heavy. So distributing them through peer to peer networks is the next best solution. Also it has the advantage of having no central server, so even if one system is taken offline the content can still have multiple sources online.
