Hey everyone..

Ok, I have a brand-new external DVD-ROM drive.

Problem.

I try to install Oblivion, and I get a CRC error when it's installing data from data7.


I have two copies of this game. Both have this problem. But the error on the second copy is on the data8 file.

So I extracted the information from the first disk, skipping data7. I place this in a folder.


I extract data7 from the second disk and place it in the game folder.

I go to install the game from the setup.executable.

When it loads, I get some really weird error, and then the setup 'fails'.


Any tips?

Cleaning the disk?

What can I use? I do not have a disk cleaner, but the disk seems clean to me.

Background info..

these are legit copies of the game, meaning they are store-bought.

However, I am not sure what the problem with the data5.cab and the data8.cab files are. And I cannot use the data8.cab from the second game to replace the one from the first. When I try to installl, when it launches the install bar at the bottom-right of my screen, it gives this really odd error message that I don't even remember.. It had a lot of symbols as well as an error or something of that nature.


so what do I do?

Well, CRC errors are bad news, since it means there is something wrong with the DVD, my advice will be to find another DVD reader and try your DVD's there, wipe clean the DVD's... Or give them back , or if you want to solve it by yourself, get images of these DVD's by Virtual CD or something, then put them together and see what happens...

Check for scratches on the shiny side. a scratch that goes across (from outer to inner direction will not usually cause problems) a scratch that goes partially around the surface will - the best cleaner is brasso brass polish. use a light pressure and try to polish the scratch out.

If you can't see a scratch you may have a defective disk.
