i've found alot of mods that increase the price of clutter so you can sell it, great, but i've had this idea for a long time to actually put practical value to everything too.

think about it. painting with all those paint supplies; making clothing from cloth and shears, crafting armor and weapons from ore, pelts and varias smithing tools, crafting jewlery from gems and calipers, gardening with gardening tools and food/alchemic flora, baking and cooking with bowls, utensils, flour and other food, etc... you get the point right?

very few of those things have been implemented by any mod i've seen. craftybits sounds allright, but is more specificaly for making armor and weapons. there's quite a few of those too. it would probably be a pretty big undertaking, but i believe immersion modders would really appriciate functional clutter.

You mean like skills and or classes. that kinda thing?

This sounds like an absolutely brilliant idea! However, I don't have the skills to contribute in any way. I mean, unless you need those paintbrushes or gardening tools retextured. Or, like, if you need dialogue written for them. In which case, by all means, sign me up!

honestly i wasn't thinking it had to be that deep, just practical. -but- now that you mention it, having some new skills to compliment these new abilities would open it up to even greater potential, the type of art that could be painted based on a new 'artisan' skill, the class of clothes based on a 'tailor' skill, weapons and armor using batter materials based on 'smithing' and potentially could also influence unique traits that could be applied to them to further .... well, i'm getting off subject here really, there's already some weapon and armor smithing mods available and i wouldn't want to undermine them, though in retrospect, getting them to work on the project would be jazzy... for jewelery you should be able to use any jewels you want at any time, but maybe the 'crafting' skill could limit the type (you can't make rings till journeyman level, for instance) and also could improve the type of enchantments you could imbue them with, 'cooking' could cover all cooking and baking (flour and alot of types of meats and vegetables and fruits that don't do much but make stamina potions, they might also be considered clutter and cooking and baking could give you a reason to rejoice that you found some rare fruit)....

that sounds like an awesome thing and would be -great- if someone could do this, but it also sounds like it may be too much to ask, and just the basic functionality of everything would be great too.

Its not a bad idea, just... big

heh, if it was easy i would have done it myself and uploaded it. sweat.gif but yeah, as the subtitle suggests, it's a big request. though i do believe that immersion modders would be absolutely delighted to have it.

Sorry to say, but skills are hard coded into the game, you can't add or remove any of the skills in Oblivion. Sorry mate but having them as skills would not work, can't do that bud!

that's ok. it was a nice thought. how about the oringal idea of just adding basic functionality to these items without all the fancy skill based diversification?
shadowace
That would take a reasonably large amount of scripting, for each one of those items that you want to have it do something. And that would take a lot of time, and in the end it would most likely not be that visually appealing. As most will consist of message boxes and you won't really see much happening. You could make it happen, but the end result will be rough, and not that visually appealing. But I do like the idea, it just would take a lot of time and work. Too much for me to attempt, otherwise I would do something. Sorry mate!

Thanks for the consideration though thumbsup.gif , but i do have to mention -1- thing though, i completely agree that it wouldn't be visualy aesthetic (aside from the painting, maybe), but that's actually pretty insignificant consider the type of mod it is, sweat.gif sure aesthetic mods are popular, but this is an immersion mod; it doesn't need to look like much, heh...
Naminea
The amount of work for this is more then most would consider, its to much for something so small. To me, it looks like a waste of time, and skill... not to put you down, thats just how i see it...
nekronom12
you could keep the skill based thing, just have them base of the existing skills

like making armor and wewapons-40% armorer,25%strength,35%endurance=dragon armor
Ta Kemia
it's a nice compromise, but as naminia said, it's probably too much work for the aesthetic based mod community. heh. if it isn't pretty, it isn't worth doin'.
shadowace
Exactly, I would love to do this, just way too much work!
ihateregisteringeverywhere
I'm pretty damn sure that I saw a mod that allowed fletching. (Bone arrows, yay! Finaly some use for all of those damn bones!) I think that this very same mod allowed you to create two sets of armor.

Sadly the names is lost upon me.

As far as custom "skills" go you could always simply use a quest. Hah a quest with 100 stages called "Armorsmith" biggrin.gif. Scripting it up would be a nuisance however.
