Hello Hello, I'm what you could call a "noob", Since I havent posted anything yet. But I have read every thread that has to do with this upcoming mod. Now, I dont know this Daerk fellow, He's really just another anonymous Internet name to me, But if him and the other Devs are sincere about recreating the world that was born out of the imagination of the honerable Tolkien, I have to respect them for it. And If I respect somebody, I leave them the hell alone. Everybody, If you really want this gift...Why dont you quit posting? I for one am leaving untill the final release date. Just go out there and learn how to bake.....or play..backgammon or something. Now, I'm sure any number of you folks could write a witty reply that would tear down the frail walls of my idealism, But the beauty of this is that I'm not going to read it. Bye!

Did it occur to you that many of us may have talents or insightful suggestions to add to this endeavor? Quite a lame course to post and split... If you have anything to add or request (or learn more of) the search is your friend. But please don't annoy with single submission litter!!!

I think he was referring to posts asking 'When's it coming out?', or, 'What's taking you so long?', or saying,'Hurry the f**k up!!', in which case I agree with him totally. However, I do think it's a good idea to have a forum in which people can post suggestions for the mod.

Thank you, White Wolf. We seem to agree here.
If The Coin had, indeed, read "every thread that has to do with this upcoming mod" (tons of reading, to be sure

) I believe he/she could have provided a better and more direct first post.
I'm eager to have them back, regardless. The more the merrier! So I hope my intial reply hasn't damaged that possibility.
They may have received a more courteous welcome had they posted this in the Off Topic Forum. Apologies All.

Welcome to the forums, The Coin.
A note concerning the reason these forums exist:
1. We need motivation. Having hundreds or even thousands of people interested in the mod is a major motivational factor. I would rather see more people posting constructively, not less people posting. Of course, the negative poster's tend to cause multiple degrees of "damage" than the positive posters can fend off. A single negative post can take five to ten positive posts to re-balance the motivational factor.
2. Request submissions. People may request features be implemented in MEMod. If their request is a realistic one that is deemed worthy of the degree of realism MEMod is aimed to achieve, it will either be implemented or if it was already being worked on we may state so publically.
3. Discussion about the mod. Allowing the fans a place to discuss the mod on an official forum that all the devs and teamsters on the MEMod development team are also members of is a big advertisement improvement. It saves all of our team member's email boxes fromn overflowing and allows a central location for general discussion of the mod and it's features and things we promise to do and things we promise not to do.
4. Community. This allows friendships to be made based on a person's shared interest in the mod. Groups of friends can be easily formed and once the mod is released these groups will have an advantage in their exploration of the mod. John Doe #1 might tell John Doe #7 that he recently discovered an abandoned cairn, full of treasure, with no guard. An exact location and information concerning the find could be easily relayed.

Well, seems I saw the responses after all, And yes Muennin, When I said that I read every post, I might of been exaggerating....somewhat. But I have read enough to notice that there seems to be a lot of bickering about things that are out of everyone's control. Trust me, I'm just as anxious to play this mod as everyone else....I was just trying to tell some folks (Not pointing any fingers) about the virtues of exhibiting patience. But those were some damn good reasons.
And I did try out Backgammon...It's a horrible game.

Hey-- when's this Mod coming out?!?
(snicker) |
Damn you!
Now Daerk's motivational meter has just dropped 10 points.
And to Coin, welcome to the forums. Please feel free to stay, I think memod would beat backgammon any day.

Welcome, Coin, I'm quite pleased to see you reply here. As for what went on up there...let's chalk it up to miscommunication. I hope you'll enjoy a healthy stay here, honestly.

From one "noob" to another, welcome Coin. ^^
I've also noticed that this forum has a lot of... maliciousness... Are Tolkien fans normally so opinionated and close-minded regarding each other's thoughts? Of course, I don't speak of everyone on these boards and I won't name names, but there is so much needless hostility over some of the most ridiculous misunderstandings. I'm not trying to indict anybody in particular, but I do agree that I think many of the people on these forums (and I'll even go so far as to say, sometimes the devs as well) need to just lean back, relax and try to think about something else for a bit to cool down. I know to many this will seem scandalous or blasphemous, but Morrowind is a game, and Lord Of The Rings is just a series of books. I think any author would be upset at the idea of people arguing (in a malicious way) over their works, and no game has ever been worth fighting over (although some are worth stealing

... Just kidding..

). Bah, well I guess that's my 2 cents worth.

KILL THE UNBELIEVER!!!!!!!
SACRIFICE HIS SOUL TO THE GREAT LORD DAERK!!!!!!!
Back on topic, this mod will be absolutely superb and probably be made to a much higher standard than many full-blown games, and, as such, I am eagerly anticipating it, especially seeing the quality of what I have seen on these forums, but the way I see it is that the long development time ensures that the mod will conform to extremely high standards and be the best it possibly can be, so I, for one, am satisfied to wait.
P.S. theNemon, in answer to your question, look

Welcome, The Coin,
just as everone else you first give your opinion and thats good, because we now know how you think about all this. Just play something else (Im not talking about Backgammon!) I dont know where your from, but I only have to wait two more weeks and then I finally can play Deus Ex 2! I should be fine with that for a couple of weeks (4 endings) and then suddenly the Beta 1 arrives!
Waiting is hard, but when your busy with something else its a lot better.
Its getting better every day people remember that..

I agree jeehde2. If you are impatient about the mod coming out go play another game, read a book, enjoy life. "Time flys when you're having fun"

I’m rather new to this forum as well, although I have used it vicariously through my younger brother. It is nice to see the devs reacting well to what could be taken as criticism, and I believe the Coin did not mean to offend anyone (as others have said before). In any event this is my maiden posting. May it survive forever in a cached google search.

When someone knows your a new guy, they really dont mean to offend you.
But sometimes there is a question and it has been answered for a thousend times. Of course people react to something like that. But they never mean to offend you even if it seems like that, Im sure.
You could also start reading LotR again, you should be busy with that for some time.
Or search the internet for some news about the mod you didnt know already.

i just read the locked forum (where i wanted to put this post) in which there is about a page long oration from DKMY, not sure if thats the spelling?, where he vents his dislike for the foums. that and many of the other crazy acusatory posts where people rip into the mod and each other for no reason are just crazy. it seems every thread gets hijaked with pointless acusations. If people have problems with other people then Private Message each other. For people who want open conversations with othe fans of the LOTR about cannonical issues and have constructive comments on tech stuf, which believe me i have no clue on, do so but do it with respect for each other!
these forums should be about letting people share the journey of building a mod that im sure all the developers and many followers have great passion for. Sorry for the speech but im just getting tired of reading all the forums that only deal with flaming the Devs and the mod.

I have been gone for a few weeks... And I have one thing to say, and one thing to ask. I'm not flaming anybody, And what's Deus EX 2?
P.S Oh yeah, some games are definetly worth stealing.

Well, Deus Ex 2 is the greatest game ever (and this is my opinion, dont flame me for it

) Just watch www.deusex2.com
Tomorrow it finally releases in Europe, I cant understand that you never heard of it before.
Just a couple more hours, then I finally can play it! Now I have something I can play until the Beta 1 arrives!
But well, this is becoming quite of topic, I hope all your questions have been answered...
