For myself, I derived a lot of personal satisfaction by completing the quest "Unfriendly Competition."

It bugged me that graverobbers were defiling the resting places of people that were once cherished by someone.

I really enjoyed ending Agarmir's useless existence. starwars.gif

Anyone like to share one of their most satisfying quests? If it's a Guild Questline, please try to pick a single quest within it to enable a more thorough discussion.

My most satisfying quest was probably the Whodunit quest for the Dark Brotherhood. I just feel kind of happy each time I kill off one of those people. Maybe it's just me, but I've always loved that quest.

I can actually agree with you on that one. biggrin.gif Even though you get Infamy, it was satisfying.

Psh, who cares about infamy? It's more fun murdering innocent people than visiting wayshrines of the Nine. wink.gif

i thorougly enjoyed sheogorath's Daedric quest where you have to reenact the 3 sides to the prophecy in which the world ends... hilarious!...and the reward? priceless!

Strange, this thread lead me to think Oblivion lacks a really bad villain, that kind someone gets the urge of eradicating him from the world's face.

Wrong thread I know, but the quest that give me the most frustrating feeling was the vanilla Arena itself, even the Gray Prince one was better. Knew that before I would never defy him for the championship.

So true.....I carried it a bit further, by using Sheogorath's reward as an ingredient for a Midas Spell. Now I don't have to carry his staff anymore, and I can use the spell any time.

Nosisab, you have just made a very good point. OB does lack that. It could have been Mannimarco; however, the way he was programmed meant you had only two choices: (1) Face him before the quest required it and die; or (2) Have the Colossal Black Soul Gem which nullified his uber-power.

But if you want to fight a good uber boss character - "Midas Summon Balrog". What you have to fight to obtain the ingredient for that spell is a decent battle as well. A bit scary the first time you see it on-screen - definitely a unique creature. Makes Lord Pratal look like a scamp in comparison.

Are there any memorable good quests that you really enjoyed completing?

Well I rather enjoyed completing the whole DB questline (Since I am an assassin biggrin.gif) especially the quest that was in a manor where you murder each of the guests while they were searchin the house for treasure, it was fun making them fight eachother and clean up the mess, it was quite well since I didnt really need to resort to violence too much...

And I was really sad when I became the Arena Champion and beat The Gray Prince... He didnt even raise his sword... He just stood there and said "Kill me, end my suffering..." and I had no other choice but beat him down, I didnt have a chance if he would ever raise his sword since I was no fighter but I got him down anyway... It was sad really...

Yes, that was better than having to do evil. Then you must be skipping all of the good quests if you are truly role-playing an assassin.

The Grey Prince was sad. The devs accomplished their task for that quest, then. They wanted the player to experience that feeling. However, I've played it both ways, and the orc fights ok if you don't activate his side-quest.

What about your previous games? Have you ever run a good character and recall a good quest you enjoyed?

nosisab
Sadly the better quests I did that gave me a good feeling I couldn't save the involved. Two were the Vampire hunter at Bruma and that infamous Orc and his hunting games in Bravil. Another intriguing quest where you need decide the fate of the culprit is the one given by Narina Valga, countess Chorrol.

Indeed the best ones aren't the main ones in this game.

It'd have to be the final mission of the Fighter's Guild questline. You get THE MOST satisfying feeling ending the Blackwood Company, especially burning the Hist Tree.

Indeed, I was forgetting this one, to a good aligned PC killing innocents is near unbearable :/

Heh... This is my first character and I didnt finish SI or KOTN yet so I didnt start with another character yet... The thing is I am a stealth freak and I love playing an assassin, I love to play as a hired blade, no questions asked only get paid to get the job done biggrin.gif so I dont really choose a good or a bad quest, for example I helped those poor villagers that got the invisibility curse (I hope I didnt slip out any spoilers biggrin.gif) and two sons who tried to defend their farms against the goblins...The goblin quest was rather enjoying cause I hate to see some lowly creatures stalk the land and harm the weak... And I am also the knight errand for the... What was it? You know against the Black arrow? I guess I am not pure evil or good, just trying to get paid and survive... Like Conan biggrin.gif except he is a blood thirsty barbarian and I am the shadow stalker biggrin.gif But I have to say I really enjoy being a hired killer, I love to see them fall before me and get paid for their corpses biggrin.gif I also help all the beggars on the streets, I give them gold every time I see them, since they are in need of the gold and they are my ears and eyes biggrin.gif since I am Gray Fox I need them...

Lol I love this game...

You hit the nail on the head. The side-quests are fun to run through. It bothered me too that your character cannot move to stop that orc from killing that poor guy at Fort Irony. I think I would have tried to do a sword move that would end up gutting that orc before he could kill an innocent guy who only owed a gambling debt.

I would have liked to have had a chance on the vampire hunter to talk to the husband first, determine he wasn't a vampire, and protect him from the hunter.

laugh.gif So do I. Best open-ended RPG ever. What really makes Oblivion shine (imho) has got to be mods. Mods have made my game burst open at the seams. Running a good character with 186 for Fame is rewarding for me. I can't wait for further updates to one of the mods I have so I can work toward becoming Emperor of Tamriel. Not far from it, my toon's a Duke as well as an Imperial Legion Captain (with that sweet armor too) tongue.gif

I'm happy to hear that your assassin is more or less a neutral toon. Glad you saw your way clear to doing some of the good quests. Who knows? You might decide in mid-game to make him a hero to the country!
macmert
hehe that is the tricky part, I have a high fame, along with high infamy, one guard passes by and thanks me for saving their province, the one next to me calls me a scumbag and beat it biggrin.gif I stole more than 1000 items in the game and I pick pocketed around 100 people biggrin.gif But I am a Blade sworn to protect the king (Which we miserably failed since he is a 100 foot statue now lol) a knight errand and bla bla bla goodie guy biggrin.gif kinda ironic you know, I am a vampire slayer guild member, but I work with vampire lords (The one in...Bruma??? Cant remember him now...) I earn knighthood, but I kill people for money and for fun, DB also urges you, forces you to like your killing, just calling for your sadistic side, In one of the drop orders, you need to kill a family, the grandma or mother thinks you are an errand boy for shopping and gives you a shopping list so you can deliver some gifts to them or something... I remember killing her in her sleep, lying there helpless, I mean killing for money is one thing but killing and taking pleasure from it... That is sick biggrin.gif So that is why I try to help people too... Kinda listen to my conscience... I guess there should be an option to quests that you reject the money paid you know being the charity guy, I try to pay to people to pay their debt and stuff...

Maybe I should quit being an assassin and open up a shop or something biggrin.gif you know retire my bow and arrow lol... I am too merciful sometimes and sometimes too cruel...

The character I am playing now is the first good character I've played and he is a Paladin (custom class like crusader) and I had lots of fun doing the KoTN quests because they fit him really well getting holy relics and such.

I haven't tried a Paladin yet. Are they big on magic like a Battlemage?

Since your Paladin has such a strong reputation, are you going to skip the quests that are Infamy-related?

The one I made is basicly a Knight with restoration magic. I also lost the blunt skill because I prefer blades. If you wanted you could give him destruction magic if you wanted (If you play WoW retribuation talents). Some of the holy spells from Midas's Might and Magic would probably be ideal.

And yes I skip all infamy related quests due to the fact I am a KoTN so I don't want the infamy. I admit to using the console to get rid of some infamy if I get some from a quest that I can roleplay a reason for doing. The quest for Mehrune's Razor is good example as my view on it was that I was a Paladin seeking to find and destroy the dagger by giving it to Martin (I have a mod so you can). Though I never give myself fame for things like that due to the fact I did eat a heart.
macmert
The classic Paladin of the D&D is the holy champion of a particular deity... She is the face, hand and the missioner of her god, she is capable of fighting and casting some spells, granted by her god and has some other abilities like healing and repelling the undead... Her alignement is always Lawful Good, so she speaks the truth, never bends it, never play tricks and always do things for the good... Not for her but for her god and the common wealth...

So on and so forth in fact to see how a paladin is, you can play Icewind Dale II, he and the monk was driving me crazy, they were always rejecting the gold payement for the quests biggrin.gif I was dead broke half the game because of them biggrin.gif

I felt really touched by the "Caught in the Hunt" Quest. Here is this guy who just wanted to make some money but got a little carried away, and then gets tricked and captured sad.gif It was the first time I felt sympathy for a video game character. I wish I could have saved him at the end, but the satisfaction of getting revenge by killing the Orc who captured you was pretty nice.

If I remember correctly, he was a gambling addict biggrin.gif yea he didnt deserve to die but he had it coming, I mean striking a deal with an orc? an ORC??? lol you gotta be kidding me...

For character interaction, try Baldur's Gate II, you will love the way your party talks among themselves...

And if you want to feel symphaty for characters in a video game, try Mass Effect, the final boss fight was not about saving the universe, it was personal I assure you verymad.gif
GenghisKhanIT
I have to say that from this point of view Goblin Trouble was really a satisfying quest. Those poor people who wanted to start a farm and where overrun by goblins were really simpathetic and helping them was plaesant, even without a reward.

EDIT: Also the three quests that involved the Jemane brothers were nice, but this time also the reward - Escutecheon of Chorrol - is simply one of the best items of the entire game.
tungol
Agreed, Genghis.
I also like the Amelion quest, because nobody gets killed but folks who are already dead. But then its really upsetting later on in the FG line.
KOTN is great. Finding the chapel and fighting the ghosts is so cool and so satisfying; it really makes you feel like you've won the right to carry on their work. And then the final KOTN quest--if you can keep them all alive you feel SO good!

Thanks to all who have posted so far.

This has been an enjoyable thread, finding out which part of Oblivion has the most appeal for a player.

I've been role-playing most of the wee hours - and I'm starting to see double - so I think I'm going to call it a day for now.
