This evening I have updated all the file listing pages (files shown in categories and search results) to now show the primary image thumbnail for the files listed. Clicking the image thumbnail will automatically take you to the image tab on the file page for that particular file. Files without images or with no primary image will show the standard "none yet" placeholder. This change is effective for users who are using both the standard "block" and non-standard "flat" layout modes that are both available to all members via the preferences section.

On that note I am aware that there are people still using dial-up on the site, or people with strict bandwidth caps that might have a reduced experience on the site due to this update. For these members there is a new preference option on the preferences page that allows you to turn off images on file listings, helping to reduce the bandwidth necessary to browse this site at a good speed. By default the setting is set to on for all members.

A nice feature, and should cut down on page usage with an image for the file in the search results.

Well done! ! ! !

Thanks

Oh, very nice addition. Should make searching much easier and efficient (although it will give the silly "no pics no clicks" crowd more to whine about). The option to disable it will also be nice when I'm back at school and have to deal with silly restricted bandwidth, and conserve every kilobyte I can.

I did notice one minuscule issue on my end, though. All images (of all proportions, as far as I saw) have a small black border extended on the right side.

Here's a screenshot:

I assume it's just due to one of the vast combinations of resolution/browser/extensions/OS/etc. Any ideas?

An excellent change to possiblities. That attention to detail and user friendliness is one of the qualities that makes this site so very popular.

Yeah it was an issue I noticed during the process and I believe I fixed it for IE and FF. It's also why some of the icon images are a bit close to some title text now; I need to go through all the site and add some manual spacing to these. What browser is that still happening in?

FF 2.0.0.15. I'll be updating to 3.0 shortly (had to wait for some days off), though, so maybe the issue will be resolved then.

Edit: Yep, displays fine now.
