Hello there, I seem to have a little problem with Oblivion.
Every time I try to patch it with the latest patch(I think is the latest) 1.2.0416 it stays @ 30 minutes and then a message apears that says that an old file wasn't found and that the updating wasn't finalised.
I dont know what is wrong.
I think I have the european version because I bought it in Europe.
So can you guys help me?

P.S. I plan on buying Shivering as well, if I patch it will it run all the mods for Oblivion?

I dont use a crack.
I know that is wrong because my Morrowind CD broke because of that but until now I didnt have any problems with it.

About the right patch,I've noticed that there are different versions depending of which game you have, mine is from Europe so I used the europe version.
I have patched it with the latest version and didnt bother with the rest,is this wrong?

might be possible that you own the us english version even tho you bought it in europe...
cds dont break because of cracks btw... i openly state i use a mini image and thus dont have to play the dvd jockey... lol... (mini images are better anyway since you dont overwrite a file)
ya i know its wrong but im too lazy to search for the disc everytime i wanna play tongue.gif

Having the same issue as well, can't install the 1.2.0416 patch (neither SI or Vanilla patch works) or any other patch for that matter. I'd love some help on this since I can't use most mods now.

Patching:

First, you must have a legal version for the patches to work.

Second, They will not work on the legal D2D version - you must use the D2D patch if you can find it.

Then, before you start patching, find out which version you have - The GOTY (Game of the Year) version does not need a patch.

You must use the proper language version or you will either crash or get a mixed language text display (Germanglish?) - this is rare, crashing is much more likely.

There are 2 English language versions of Oblivion - UK & US they are different. (Some people still think we speak the same language.) You must use the proper patch for your version.
If you are not sure, certain words are spelled differently in US English and UK English.
US defense, UK defence (Look at the sign in the market area - The Best Defense = US, The Best Defence = UK) Others US color, UK colour US center, UK centre

There is only one English language version patch for SI It works for both UK & US versions.(Apparently sometimes we do speak the same language)

If you have installed some of the old beta SI patches, you must reinstall Oblivion (According to Bethesda - sorry about that)

If you use SI, ONLY install the latest SI patch and not the Oblivion patch.

If you do not use SI, Only use the latest Oblivion Patch for your language version.

If you have installed the Latest Oblivion patch, You can still use the latest SI patch over it.

If you have installed the latest SI patch, you cannot install the latest Oblivion patch - it gives the message That a file of the same name has been found - patch not installed. This is not a problem as the SI patch contains all of the stuff from the Oblivion patch (according to Bethesda)

Now that should make it clear as mud.

In my case, it's not that simple I'm afraid. I actually didn't have any issues when I patched my game first. However, after about a year of playing, Oblivion started to get some annoying CTD's. I tried to reinstall my oblivion in order to fix this, but now I have the patching issue.

Sorry for gravedigging, but i also suffer from this problem.
I live in Norway, whom is in the far north of Europa(i also bought my copy of Oblivion here).

First i attempted to use the UK english version, what happend? It did not even attempt to start patching. It would still be on 0% and 0% completed after 5-10 minutes. If i let it go for long enogh, it will say that it did not find oblivion.
So next, i downloaded the American 1.2 patch. The exact same happend as if i was using the UK version.
I have not moved Oblivion after i installed it, so there should be no register problems.
I do not use a CD, i do however use someting a bit more practical: A mounted CD image.

So................... HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!1!11!1!!!!!!!!!!!

PS: i installed my Oblivion to: C:\spill\Oblivion

Managed to fix the issue.

Firstly, you need to completely remove the game from your PC (a good guide on how to do that can be found here: http://thenexusforums.com/index.php?showtopic=41082)

Note, you also need to uninstall any off the official plugins while you're at it.

Once you have completely removed Oblivion from your system, you should be able to reinstall the game and patch it without issues, it worked for me at least.

I got another way to do this:

Run windows in clean mod(was a guide on the Ubi forums), turn of all programs that can consume memory.
I found instructions how to do it here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796

Then do this:
1. hit "Run" and enter "regedit" then find Oblivion's files, and make sure they are correct
2. after comfirming that the path of installation is correct, get the 2.0 patch.
3. Run and leave your computer
4. Pray
5. For me it worked for some odd reason. I guess the patcher is bugged, it will want a certain amout of free memory to be able to run succesfully.
6. go to msconfig and check back the applications and stuff that is needed
7. restart and play

Please, do not try using regedit unless you know what you are doing. A mistake there could kill your Windows completely and make your computer unable to boot. If you want to try this, be sure you have a real windows CD - NOT a windows restore disk. So you will be able to reinstall windows. Maybe you will be able to salvage something.

If you do think you know how to use regedit, please make a backup of the regedit file first. Then you will be able to restore the original in case of a disaster.

A restore disk restores it all right - to the condition it was in when it left the factory. ALL of your programs and everything you have ever put on the computer will be wiped out, and any trash programs that originally came installed (AOL, a temporary copy of a antivirus - now expired etc.)
