Ok, I didn't know whether to put this into questions, requests or general, so I opted for general. I remember hearing that evil races would be impossible to play due to the fact that opposite aligned npc's would stand around and wait for you to talk to them instead of attacking you. While showering this morning I had some thoughts. Here are my thoughts (note: I am in no way saying the devs should make evil races playable... that would be an enourmous amount of work/time, and a bit unfair to ask at this point). What follows are my ideas that could make the game more realistic and fun... I'm sure the devs have already thought up ways to do this, but just in case it can't hurt to post this, no?

- I had an idea how evil creatures/bandits could be handled to have dialogue, and still all hate you. Instead of having a gang of bandits simply attack you for no reason (although those types should be in there as well) why not have them scripted similar to how a guard was in MW... Have them come up to you and have a quick dialogue wth options to give belongins (maybe even persuade them you aren't worth the trouble).

- Say you come to Helm's Deep, or some other well fortified city and you want entrance, would it be possible to shout up to the guard to gain entrance? By this I mean can you script it so dialogue won't be just with someone from 1 meter in front of you, and can cover great distances (this could make shouting across a large distance written in a manner that dictates shouting). I ask this because I picture maybe a group of soldiers you are fighting with storming an orc fortification of some kind and parlaying with the orc leader who is on the upper balcony.

- Say at some point you deicde to work for some sort of evil faction. It can be set up so that they are all flagged as "guards" were in MW and if you do something to piss them off an automatic "bounty" is placed on your head which would make them all attack you on sight (they should all be guards because if anyone was a normal citizen or storeowner they would just stand by an watch). If the bounty idea would case problems making all guards attack you in the game, you could also flag them as the Ordinators were and flag the global script that said you wore their armor and they will hate you forever... I know that everything is from scratch so those scripts won't be there, but I mean to make new similar scripts.

- Maybe also if you sneak close to a group of bandits/evil guys you can get close enough to have a conversation pop-up between themselves and you can gain some information (maybe where they stash their loot).

I think these ideas would make the game more realistic and fun (if they can be implemented at all, that is). Any feedback would be appreciated.

I totally agree with idea nr 2 and 4. they sound great!
wether it is possible to do i can't answer, tec is a scary thing that consumes alot of time and therfore i won't touch it biggrin.gif

Off topic: the shower IS a great place to do some thinking

Nice post, Booster. I like your ideas, but this one

i think is unable to do. I say this becuase, even though i have almost zero knowledge of the editor, i think that dialogues do not happen between NPC's. For example, in Deus Ex, this was scripted to play a sound file with the dialogue in when you reached a certain proximity to whoever was saying it. Whether this is possible in MW, i do not know. I think this would be the only way of achieving this effect.

This i especially like biggrin.gif . I think this would be possible, since you could have the Teleknesis script to extend the reach of selection, but change it (not sure if this change is necessary, since i've never tried to talk to someone from 50 yards away in-game) so NPC's are affected.

So, now we just wait for one of the Dev's to post "Wait and see..." and we'll know its in the mod. (Only joking BTW guys bye2.gif )

to idear nr 1

well if you were a gang member of the and you see someone from "THE OTHER GANG" you wouldnt start a coversation, you would kill him..
In realistic-fiction kind of way blink.gif

but i like the other ideas very much biggrin.gif

Helm's deep isn't a city dry.gif

Also, the fort would probably already have people in it, and they might think you a foe and kill you. Just a thought.
Ancalagon
I disagree, though Helm's Deep was indeed a stronghold it still had folk in it. And it was more of a refuge of last resort if all the lands were overrun. Inn any case, Helm's Deep (IIRC) may or may not be built depending upon the Timeline. Also, it seems you know very little about Tolkien's world if you think that the guards in Helm's Deep are going to kill you on sight and 'mistake you for a foe'.

The only way that you could be slain on sight, no questions asked, is if you were a card carrying Orc. And since Orcs are not playable (it hasn't been officially said, but let's go with logic shall we?) I doubt that you (as in your own character) would be killed on sight for hailing the guardsmen at ANY fortress, unless it was a challenge. Which would be foolish in any case.

And I am certain that the poster of this topic knew that Helm's Deep wasn't a city, and had just made an honest mistake. Just as you made the mistake of assuming that any and all guards would kill someone on sight if that person had waltzed up to a fortress (Helm's Deep) and hailed them. wink.gif So show a little more respect and try not to be so cheeky...you may make more friends that way and avoid unnescessary flaming.

Kethruch
Not all bandits in games are as single minded as they seem to be in MW. I am sure that all who are wondering will be pleased with the way that things such as bandits are handled in the mod.

(Is that a better non-answer answer?)

That said, I am afraid you'll have to wait and see.

Ah, so bandits will have lives? Well, I guess I'll have to wait. smile.gif

Nice non-answering answer there Kethruch, but i'm curious to know if all the ideas Boooster (with 3 "o"'s) posted will all work within the engine, since they would add loads to the realism. Even a "Wait and see" would do ph34r.gif

Firstly thanks for all the nice feedback biggrin.gif

Secondly, I did know that Helm's Deep was a stronghold, I just used it as a reference because it is a fortified place that everyone is familiar with... I am very curious about that answer Kethruch... maybe you can elaborate a *little* more biggrin.gif? The possibilities for this game is making me mad...
Every game I have ever waited for has always been a let down in one way or another (usually many ways). Either it was too linear, or repetitive, or just lacked the depth that would keep me coming back for more.. What you guys are doing is incredible. I am 100% positive that the final product will be everything every RPG (not only Tolkein) fan has been waiting for, and you know why? Because as Daerk said it's not for the mass-market. It is being made solely for a hardcore player that wants depth in a game, and I think in the end that will be make it the most enjoyable for everyone, even those that don't think they have patience for this genre. All I can say is keep up the hard work you all know it will pay off in the end.. and thank you biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
