Aside from models and textures, you're probably going to do almost all of your modding in the TES Construction Set. You can find a lot of high-quality tutorials for it here. If you plan on getting into it, Blender is a popular free program for 3D modeling, and GIMP is a popular free "painting" program for textures.

There are lots of easy mod-types to start with. House mods are a common starting point, retextured items can be easy, or you could just fiddle with the various gameplay settings. It's said that you should mod for yourself before modding for the community.

All you need to start making your own mods is the construction set usually abbreviated CS. It's available for free here:
http://www.elderscrolls.com/images/utiliti...liv-front01.jpg

The best instructions for learning the CS is the CS Wicki, here: http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/Main_Page

The CS is needed for anything you want to mod. after you know how it works, you may want to get programs that allow you to make your own objects. you will need nifskope, a graphics editing program to make textures and a dd modeling program to make meshes. There are many available, but I recommend gimp for textures and blender for meshes. There are many other tools available for mod makers also, bit until you know what you want to do we won't know what to get.

I have CS already.
Will get GIMP and Blender later.
Thanks for the help so far.
Also if anyone is willing to explain live on msn i will be thankful.

Edit: I found a Dungeon tutorial and followed it.
But when i dropped a object into the Render window it doesnt appear.
Anyone know how to make it work?
jaysus
maybe the object wasnt in your field of view... it usually places the dragged n dropped object quite close to the cam...
just highlight any object on the left and drag and drop it in the viewport... then move it around... hitting "Z" while moving it with the mouse lets you adjust the height

Ok will try tommorow, it 1am (I think) here.
How do i look around?
Sorry that im quite suckish at this but it is the first time i mod for any game.
jaysus
shift and mouse move i think... dont remember exactly... its different in every game lol... usually its either just the mouse and some of its buttons or the mouse in combination with shift or ctrl... plz just read the tutorials for the basic stuff, mostly everything is answered there and the rest is similiar in all computer programs... Bben's 2nd link has answers to mostly everything regarding TES modding, also read the stickies plz... as there is a collection of all the good tutorials - thats why its stickied wink.gif

Check the pinned topics for starters such as How To Make Mods

Also, when it comes time to use other tools, I would recommend you download them from TESNexus as I have added several along with detailed install instructions and many times bundled related software packages with the right versions that work together.

7-Zip
AMD GPU MeshMapper
Blender
DDS Converter 2
GIMP
GIMPShop
GMax
Official Oblivion Construction Set
Official Oblivion 1.2.0416 Patch
Paint.NET

OK thanks for your help i will see if i can make it work.
Will also check ou the stickies.
Also thanks for your efforts to help me, it been very helpful so far.

Edit 1: I click C which is suppose to zoom in on the selected object but nothing happen.
Even when i had put something in the Render window.
jaysus
i usually just turn the mousewheel to zoom... but the c method is more accurate... i think you have to hold C and move the mouse back and forth to make it zoom...

Still doesnt work confused.gif
Will re-install tomorrow.
Also how does Blender and GIMP work?

I'm putting together a new article tailored for people that want to start modeling for Oblivion using Blender but it is still a Work-In-Progress - http://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=125

And what file types do they use?

I have documented the native file format, exported and imported files here: http://www.oblivionmodwiki.com/index.php/Blender

You can figure out the same thing with GIMP by starting it up and clicking on File, Open and checking out the file types it can read and the by clicking File, Save As to see what it can write.

But since I have re-read your initial post, I'm kinda thinking you are really just wanting to learn the Construction Set. You can do a lot with it and no other resources. Using GIMP and Blender come into play when you want to add new models/textures to the game.
