Full Version: Sword Mod

Hi There,

Can anyone create a sword for Oblivion for me? You can see pictures of it at http://www.powning.com/jake/commish/swords9.shtml
The sword was forged for me by a master swordsmith, Jake Powning, and I would love to have it in my game. If anyone knows how to make a really good sword mod for Oblivion, preferably with a quest attached but even without it is fine, I'd be willing to pay for it.
Lainge
Man I wish I could make you that sword for oblivion. That thing is amazing.

You said you got someone to actually make that for you?
How much?
joegenius4557
Ya, check out his website: http://www.powning.com/jake/home/j_homepg.shtml
It's very expensive, though, so you have to be a real collector to put that much money out. Mine was $3,800.

Do you know anyone who could make the mod and make it look great?
joegenius4557
Oops! Apparently it's illegal to pay for mods so I'm gonna have to ask anyone interested in creating my mod to do it for free. PLEASE!
nekronom12
if you can get a directly overhead view, i might be able to do it, not promising anything though

Here are more pictures of the sword. It's name is Mara, which means Bitter in old Hebrew. An apt name, I think, because you should see how sharp this thing is... It cuts through anything! The blade itself is 28 inches long, so I believe that makes it a short sword, although I think the shortswords in Oblivion may be shorter than that. The hilt is made out of carved wood, the pommel is the head of a bull and the crossguard is the head of a lion. The blade itself gleams like a mirror in sunlight... I love my sword!

Is it rude to suggest how to make the sword, because I think the only way to do it justice is to have the blade be reflective in the game the same way the swords in the Paladin of the Nine mod are.
nekronom12
thats fine, i can make the model, and i'll send it off to get textured and shiny, then i'll upload it

Thanx a million! Now, you're already doing me a favor so I don't want to be pushy but could you, or do you know anybody who could, make a quest in order to get the sword? I know nothing about modding so I don't know if that takes a lot of time so please let me know if I'm being obnoxious here.
jaysus
if youd add some closeups of the pommel, guard and grip it would be much easier to make a good texture wink.gif
closeups of the engravings on the scabbard would be good too...

jake powning ohhhh... want one too!!!! just sad they cost as much as a small car lol...
heres the deal i make it for you and you gimme the sword? tongue.gif
is it some judaistic template? (lion, jiddish) what does it mean?
jaysus
mesh ready... textures now... pack up the sword and get some stamps tongue.gif

I can get you close-up pictures of the pommel by the end of the week but I'm out of town until Wednesday. Which means you have a few days to steal it if you can find out where I live before I get back. I don't recommend trying to steal it after I get back, though, cause that thing can cut your head off like a knife through butter.

P.S. But if you do try stealing it after I get back, could you please bring along the mod in a flash drive?

P.P.S. The two faces on the pommel correspond to my two Hebrew names... Yoseph is compared to a bull, and Ari means a lion. The writing is from Psalms... "As I walk through the valley..."
jaysus
i see i see... lol... well im done now tho im not 100 fine with the pommel... but its ok for now... will be uploaded inna minute just need to take screenshots

but if you could make a nice straight down shot of the pommel anyway plz so i can update it and the other modders dont laugh bout me that would be nice tongue.gif

ah men... its not actually my kind of sword but seeing the work of powning is just mind blowing... he as a great feeling on where to put each piece mainly the engravings... the cow erm bull lol looks so cool where it is... the lion too of course.

Thanx a Million! The sword looks amazing!!! I will definitely take pictures as soon as I'm home so you can touch it up. BTW, I don't know if you named the sword "Sword of Judah" because you didn't know the real name or because you thought it was a better name but it's real name is Mara, meaning bitter in Hebrew, in case you want to change that in version 2 (no pressure, just don't think I saw any Jews in Tamriel). I also think the scabbard may look better without the lettering on it so I'll take a picture of the other side of the scabbard, which has no lettering on it, in case you want to change it.

P.S. I just realized how funny that is... Jaysus just made a sword for a Jew! And by the way just because I spent all the Jew gold I usually carry around my neck (see Southpark) on the sword and am going to use it for world domination doesn't mean I'm a Jewish fanatic, lol.

P.P.S. Do you also create quests because I would love to have a quest created in order to get the sword. Stealing it from the Anvil castle might be awkward since my character lives in Anvil. I don't think a sword stolen from the palace would go unnoticed on my character's hip.
jaysus
i thought stealing is approptiate lol... nah joke aside... i called it blade of judah cause originally i wanted to call it "blade of the lion of judah I rastafari"... but it was too long lol
ingame its called blade of the lion i think... dunno if i gonna make a quest last time i made one it was so incredible annoying... it gets complicated once a quest has more than 2 stages
well jaysus knows there was abraham... mohammed knows there was jesus... and anyway i couldnt give a *selcensorshiprocks* about religion... as long as you aint called rothshild and are one of the guys who shoots lil kids or spends reperation money meant for others you can do whatever you like tongue.gif

but ya i could really need the textures...talos was whining yet that they aint perfect lol....
perfect would be: closeup of - pommel, guard, grip, scabbard, scabbard applications, a part of the blade... all straight down without perspective and as big as possible...

as to the quest would be a bunch of lions which guard it enough? maybe a book that leads you there... i have no time to be bothered with getting voice actors atm

I'll get you those pictures by Thursday. About the quest, a lion's den sounds great. What if some traveller or bookstore sells a map to the den. Inside the den the sword could be on a pedastel guarded by loins. I would rather not have the sword be a stolen one (you know, with the red hand on the icon) as it is the sword I'll probably be using until they come out with a new Elder Scrolls game.
jaysus
yup sounds doable... but get the pics first... to loose the red hand just go to a fence from the thieves guild, sell it and rebuy it... wink.gif
man just looked through pownings page abit more and youre the lucky guy who got the last commisioned sword for the time being! hes just doing standard stuff now to sell online... buhuhuh... well till i have enough bucks hell prolly make some again lol

P.S. Wasn't me the one to say that's illegal to pay for mods if that's what you were thinking tongue.gif

if i see a texture being sold for 150$ for commercial use id say why not for mods tongue.gif
take in count how long it takes... you said im crazy doing two swords in one day... thats nearly 12h work... lets say 20 to 30 bucks per hour... if you take the sword price by a tenth thats still somin round 300 bucks and to be honest a student (not saying that im overly enthusiastic) like me is happy bout anything... but nevertheless i do it for fun and also to polish my portofolio thus its ok to be free... anyway id think that requests which get handled could (not saying that they should) of course be payed for... asking for money is somin else but if someone decides that he/she needs the mod so badly id say why not... in the end more modders would actually be mentally forced to do it... and if i look at some mods especially the morrowind mods, they reach a level of detail and love put into it no game could ever offer (compare vanilla oblivion textures to mod ones for xample) and could only benefit from it and also train modders for the stress theyll be introduced to once they join the ranks of proffesionell model/texture/scripte,etc makers

btw joegenius4557 said it was illegal... prolly to save for his next sword tongue.gif (i tell you the jews tongue.gif worse than scots... just to stay stereotyped lol)

Again with the Jew-bashing! Will it never end, lol. Actually I'd just assumed it was nice to offer to pay for a modder's time but then, on the Bethesda forum, I got yelled at from all sides for offering. They said that not only was it illegal but it was insulting because people do this as a hobby and it shouldn't be turned into a business, or something like that. I guess this forum and that one are made up of different crowds... Then again, nobody Jew-bashes me there wink.gif

By the way, is there someone out there who does Oblivion faces? I use FaceGen and FaceGen to Oblivion Converter, which worked for my face, but when I try doing my wife's (three times) it never looks like her. I even tried copying slider settings with and without the slider number mod. Nothing works. I posted a question on the Bethesda forum asking if there was a better program but all someone posted was this hugely long process using the official version of FaceGen plus some other programs which I have no time for.
jaysus
well facegen is the proggie the game uses and the developers used... and ya it sucks... believe me i ususally smoke some bliffs when making a char but at the facegen i tend to hang around for more than one...two...three...and then just say ok even tho im not fine with it... and if you make one for your wife i bet youre never fine as no computer proggie can capture the beauty of a wife anyway...

btw joe do yo have the email of powning? id like to ask him for permission before i remake more of his swords (which are truly great)... i usually hate all that copyright stuff but hes so good at what he does i think he deserves that respect lol
if you have it plz pm me

After I get my 300ZX I'm gonna design/buy a sword of JP. I was looking through his work and most of it is amazing (most, some of it like the first knife are just a little strange for me).

I found this picture while on the site.

Is that your letter? Just wondering if you designed the sword from scratch. If so good job.

Also Mara (cool name, like the goddess which I presume is a coincedince.) can ?she? be hooked onto a belt?

Edit: Why is paying for a mod (related thing) illegal?
jaysus
obviously its joes letter and sketches made by powning to show how dedicated he is i guess... and like all good artists he has a lil travel sketchbook too...

the scabbard has 2 hooks which are presumely thought to be used as a belt attachment tool

paying for mods as being illegal was stated at the beth forum... prolly cause mods that use stuff from the game use somin beth owns and thus cant be sold without a licence... but i cant see why paying for a mod like this one should be illegal in any way since its all original work xcept for the textures for which powning owns the rights and would need to get a share

as to him making a sword for you, thatll be difficult as hes not making any commisioned ones anymore atm sad.gif

I told him the style and what I wanted on the sword (the bull and lion heads and the engraving) and he designed the sword around that. And yes, that is my letter to him.

It's a total coincidence that there is a goddess in the game named Mara.

If you look on the pictures of the completed scabbard you'll see two hooks. They hook into rings on a sword-belt.

And with regard to paying for mods, I'm not sure it really is illegal but I got yelled at on the Bethesda forum for offering becuase they say it is.

Well he'll be the first I go to if I ever have the money.

Any chance at getting this sword made (mesh/texture) if you get the permission from Jake Powning?
Kresselack

That one is quite different than the typical Viking sword. It dosent have the inward scoop down the blade.

Hey Jaysus, do you have a real email address I can send you more pictures of the sword to? The forum emails can't send files that big.
