Well, I find that when I play, I kind of take it too seriously.
I make a handbook (out of the game, like when I go to bed, I sit there for about an hour, writing in this book about new spells and potions I've created), I talk to my computer as I ride my unicorn, like "OK, let's go girl," and if it gets hurt, I kill the enemy and make comments like, "That's what you get for messing with me!" and I make a few comments. I've done it ever since I was little, and it's my favourite game... seriously is that normal or am I slightly insane?
This may sound kind of dumb, but when I was small enough to stand up underneath my bunk (Where my computer is located on a desk) I used to sit on my chair like a horse and bob up and down as I rode, then if I ran, I would run on the spot too.

I get kind of carried away with Oblivion.

Maybe you're right. I just love the whole roleplaying idea, seems like a great way of having fun.
The only problem is, when you get into it and your computer stops working, you end up really, and I mean REALLY bored.

lol, that's what you are SUPPOSED to do when you role play, no? Actually adults like us yell at TV screens all the time too. In my opinion, a game is no different from a sports match or a reality show. At its core they are all just entertainment. Enjoy the rush!

Don't worry, I wear armour all the time and carry a sword everywhere. But that's normal in England.
You're not insane until the computer starts answering back.

Attention to detail at the age of 14, im impressed

Word of advice though, if you really are 14, do not tell anybody, if your girl, definitely do not tell anybody. Too many idiots out there will take advantage of you. Become a Net User with no SEX, no Age, No Religion, No Race.
Just an IT to everybody.

I'm 35 and I talk to the game! None of the stock answers are ever what my character would really say, so I fill in. And I stopped using a horse because it really depressed me when the thing died (or ran off--that's the worst, not knowing if your horse is alive or dead). It really offends me when someone shoots me with an arrow (what a cowardly thing to do!...unless it's me doing it, of course). So I sometimes hack on dead archers out of indignation.
I'd also recommend pen & paper RPG's. Gathering your friends around a table and letting it all play out in your head is an experience you cannot get anywhere else. Paper RPG's tend to have big, intimidating rule books, but most of it can be ignored--just do what seems reasonable.

You're not the only one who does that. I had so much fun with CM partners, that I stated to think my Companion Jade actually was real. I'd say that Oblivion is so realistic, we forget about the real world and think we live in the world of oblivion.

Nah, you're not crazy. I'm fourteen, too, and I talk to the game all the time. Mostly I'll just say stuff like, "Wow, what a ripoff..." or, while clicking past dialogue, "Yeah, yeah, yeah. Do you even listen to yourself talk?" It's only when I start saying stuff like, "AAUGH would you just die already!!" That I start getting funny looks.

you might be crazy, but I've heard that the smartest of people speak to themselves.
and as long as these games dont affect your lifestyle, it shouldnt be anything wrong.
this is a past time and nothing else, and if your 14, no school during the summer (oh yes, i just graduated highschool, so my exams finish on tuesday YEAAAAA) so past time will be plenty.
just wondering; do you just game on your pc, or do you actually know a lot about computers for a 14 year old?

I dunno about the OP, but I'm working on my first build right now! So I'm getting started on knowing about computers!
My dad's a comp technician, so I've put together computers before, but never for myself. I got my dad helping me so I don't screw it up, but I'm doing most of it solo for the first time!

I don't think I know much about computers, really. I can type fast... when I'm typing what I want. When I copy down something I can only be speedy when someone next to me is reading it out.
The reason I've posted previous topics about my PSU and computer giving up is because of my brother. He's 18, and a bit of a computer geek. Well, not in the nasty way, but he is an expert on computers, and has saved mine on many occasions. Plus, I wanted to see who's view was better, my dad's or my brother's. My brother's = new PSU. My dad's = the PSU isn't the problem! And, partly, my mum's = people on those forums can't help! They're just gamers! They don't know anything about computers! (Which is total rubbish.)
So pretty much, I just game, type and chat on forums. I don't know if that really answers your question...

You'll know when you take Oblivion too seriously when...
You attempt to lockpick your neighbor's house to steal stuff and sell to your local Walmart store
You grab a map and yell, "why aren't I fast moving to China?!?!"
You can wait in one spot for up to 24 hours doing nothing
You go around asking random people on the street for Rumors
You see a wolf or bear in your local forest and you attempt to kill it
You don't ever use the restroom
You go out looking for a Oblivion gate only to never find one in your life
You think you have high acrobatic skill and jump off a roof only to get broken bones
You never take a haircut thinking it will never grow

you try to download a mod for your life
you write cheat codes at the top of your exams
you eat random plants to boost your alchemy skill
you pick a fight with a cop because, hey, you can always load an old save
you go through all the books in the library looking for a skill boost
you won't wear socks because they make your tail disappear

No, no, you're not insane!
People find ways of having a good time! I personally love writing outside the game. It keeps me in Oblivion Mode. I'm learning to write in Daedric at the moment. Fact.

My mom would have me sectioned if i talked to my computer, so i just shout at it instead when i die. im 18 by the way lol. I dont go overboard like shouting and screaming and smashing my computer just if i die id say like f*ck!.
Currently what i want to do is make a new charcter then write an story about my progress ingame, That would be a good way to bring out your charcter alot using words instead of verbally or physically doing things in your bedroom, might look abit strange if you ever have guests around lol.

I think that's what a game should be like to get you so engrossed in it you actually feel part of it, Oblivion is very good at doing that especially in first person mode.

At my school we were waiting for the assembly hall to open for our year's weekly morning assembly and one of the guys pull out these two metal things and managed to open the door...
^--I'm not lying...
Then we went inside and found a sword (40cm i think...) but it was blunt and most likely just a prop for the school production. I wish I had of found it first, I would have kept it...

So there you go, I know someone who does take Oblivion too seriously.

I say its normal no matter what age you are. I'm 17 now and I've been playing Oblivion ever since 15 and gaming ever since about 4, I knew how to use a computer ever since I learned how to walk and speak. Sometimes I'll find myself yelling at my game if I'm dying or I'll literally pace around the house and think of ways to roleplay in my games. I know endless amounts of game quotes, including Starcraft ("Gimme somethin' to shoot! Commander!" -terran marine) and "LEEROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOY JENKINS!!!!"

Quite right, Glue. In answer to what you just said, I'd like to paste in this great comment from Elys that I put into my sig at Bethesda:
