Hey all...I'm planning on jumping into the foray of modding and I'm having issues before I even open the Construction Set. The problem is that it won't open. I have Oblivion on my home PC (high-end Core 2 Duo, 1.5TB SATA II, 4 GB PC6400 RAM and Crossfired Ati3850's). The construction Set opens no problem. Installed Oblivion on my laptop (Core 2 Duo, SATA HDD, 1.5GB RAM and integrated video...yes, I know that's bad)...Anywhoo, I tried patching Oblivion and I got the "Cannot patch...missing old file) I installed the Construction Set and when I open it, I get the "TES CS has encountered a problem and needs to close" All I want to do on my laptop is mod...not even play the game. Any suggestions as to why the CS won't open? Thanks!!!

Well first of all, modding requires playing. Otherwiseyou dont know if anything worked, and if you cant quickly play what you just modded, it would be a real hassle. you dont even need oblivion installed for CS to run so it has nothing to do with oblivion. to patch oblivion, do not use the normal patch, it doesnt work, instead, use the shivering isles patch (same version) that will update you, and allow you to load your files into CS current version. The patch problem happens sometimes, it did to me too, use the shiv patch instead. if CS still doesnt open then its either a corrupt download or its in a bad directory. even if you were on a real pooty comp it should open lol. so its not your lap top.

I can play the game on my laptop...but I have to use "Oldblivion". I just wanted to do the modding "on the go" and transfer the esp to my main computer when I wanted to test it. I don't have an issue with patching on the laptop since I don't play Oblivion on my laptop much. The error generated when I try to run the CS is as follow:

This message is most of times due to already patched or cracked files or wrong patch. The CS issue goes in the same way, being different version for the oblivion.exe. Solve one problem and the other is gone.

PS: sorry my reply got between the two others. I'm to append than if the hardware is under the specifications crashes can occurs (Notebooks cases are common). but seems the issue is partially solved.
