Full Version: Trouble with the Unicorn...

This question isn't for me, per se, but for my friend.

So, my friend has a bit of a problem. He successfully captured a Unicorn and rode it around, and then he lost it. pinch.gif

He knows it's dead, because it doesn't appear when he fast-travels, and he needs the horn for the Hircine Quest. sweat.gif

Any suggestions?

Sincerely,
gman021

P.S. I am NOT the friend! I could easily use the console to add the horn into my inventory. My friend doesn't have the PC version. He has the PS3 Version instead. yucky.gif

Hope that (^) information helps! yes.gif

The unicorn has an AI package similar to Shadowmere, in that if you are apart for a certain amount of time it will return to the grove. Just because it does not follow when you fast travel, doesn't really mean it's dead, just that you're too far apart to claim ownership. Shadowmere does the same thing if you let her get back to Fort Farrogut she will no longer follow you via fast travel. The unicorn will walk (not run) back to the grove along as straight a path as possible. Again, like Shadowmere, the unicorn will fight every hostile creature it encounters on the way, but unfortunately the unicorn is not indestructible like Shadowmere, so it stands a high chance of being ogre food.

Go check the grove again in a couple of game days, it may have got lucky and survived the trip.

Yeah, we did. It's been abut a month (game time & real time), and she still hasn't come back.

The thing we're worried about, is the Unicorn's body disappearing, along with the horn.

Does the body disappear? Because if not, we could probably do a systematic search of Cyrodill... I know, we have no life, right? ninja.gif
WoogieMonster
I killed a Mythic Dawn agent outside Bruma more than 500 real-time hours ago and her body is still there. Judging by that, there's a good chance you may be able to find the unicorns body, but I do not know for certain.

And your children's children's children will be looking for it. Sometimes just being on the other side of a rock or bush could hide it. And looking for it at night is right out.
Since it's not PC, she can't get the mod "Dude, where's my horse", can she ? If and the operative word is if, she can use the mod and hasn't ridden another, it will show where the last horse type critter she rode is.

Ah, hell, I'll help out. Tell ya what, I'll boot up my game and I'll search the area east of the river, south of that road that goes to the town on the east side of the map..... tongue.gif

I think you are right. The 'best' way here points to console cheating. Sore thing but...
the unicorn horn must figure at several formid items list around there, or found via CS.

You are gonna have to ask him where he got off the horse to fast travel and where he fast travelled to. Naturally, the horse should be around there if it is dead, also the unicorn will never belong to you even if you get on it. Check on the most direct route to the grove from the spot where he left the unicorn. That seems to be the most valid choice. Good luck!

Actually, my friend is male. The Unicorn is a female, I do believe.

And no, it's not the PC version. It's the PS3 version.

*Sigh* Well, we'll keep looking...

That's alright! biggrin.gif

I guess next time I'm at his house, we'll look for it...

Because if a quest item is on somethings body, the body can't disappear, can it? unsure.gif

From personal experience from unicorns myself I have to say.

What the Bleeping bleepedy, bleep was that bleep thinking?
Furthermore how do he lose the unicorn in the first place. from my knowledge only an ingame glich or serious cheating could have possinly had that kind effect on somebodies game.

If this was me i would not sleep untill i searched every last Bleeping square Bleep till i found that Bleeping unicorn

Of course i dont really sleep much anyway and i don't sleep much and i don't have a ps3 or a unicorn... But i did have one. And that's a different story.

Please note i bleeped myself out. Have no fear i don't cuss, curse, or swear, althought i do say bleep alot!

This is the best advice I've read.
If you are able to save using the PS3 version try a previous save, if there is no previous saves but you are able to save I suggest save the game before you start your search that way you can fan out your search & use as little time as possible.
For instance the shortest distance from point A to point B is a straight line right.
So you make your first search be as Blackhawk suggest straight to the groove as possible.
If you don't find it reload the save & make your new search path a little to the right of the original one.
If you still don't find it reload again but this time make the search path to the left of the original.
Using this method you could theoretically continue to make a broader & broader search & still not loose any in-game time.

Best of luck to you both.

just activate hircine's "get the horn" quest and follow the map marker it leads to the unicorn... no need to search every fricking bush and rock

Lol Nice...
But does the unicorn get a marker?

After I made the required offering, Hircine was summoned, and spoke to me. He told me that he desires the horn of a unicorn. I may be able to find a unicorn in the Harcane Grove.

I'm not sure...
ApocalypticBiscuit
no, he doesnt get a marker if i remember correctly, u get a marker placed in the middle of the grove.
Lainge
Yeah I just did all the daedra quests yesterday. And yeah no mark so... Damn.
jaysus
mmh maybe get the newest patch then :/ i have a marker that leads directly to the unicorn wherever it is... but might be that unofficial oblivion patch... dunno
Lainge
For ps3 (or xbox 360 can't remember, I could just check but nah...) that might be a little difficult.

No? But the spot does?
jaysus
just realize ps3 and xbox and all that stuff is crap... wii ok thats fun at least but the rest is like a crippled pc for the same price... tongue.gif

i just tried it again cause you guys made me think twice but the marker lead me right to the unicorn which i rode somewhere else and then let die... the marker lead me right to her still... could be one of the following: newest oblivion patch, newest unofficial patch, slofs horsemod (tho i doubt its that one since there is no 2nd marker leading me to the grove which should be there according to youz)

Why would you end the sentences with a question mark?
And read the rest of my posts before commenting? <-- But this isn't. <<
See how this doesn't make sense? --> Damn that's still a question... >>^

What.
I thought this topic had to do with unicorns?
Oh well, I guess it doesnt add to the topic, posting like this?
Wouldnt it be a better world if question marks switched roles with periods.
