Well, while people are waiting for the beta, here's something to keep people interested. this is a render shot of the weapons collection for the Wild Men of Druedan.
Some more images may come along later...

Oh and please note, these are only a sample of some of one particular "faction" or "culture's" weapons... not all of them, and not for every race/faction/culture.

Thanks Suzerain, their lookn good. The mace in the untextured weapons screenie looks fun (is it mace or bonny knocker? hahaha, just an excuse to say bonny knocker... carry on).
Can't wait to see some more screenies roll in, hope so.
Thanks again... although I feel my apetite is still a tad dry...
hahaha, good stuff, good stuff!

Nice, thanks for the teaser! Texture work on the top group looks great, can't wait to see the next group completed. The spears look about 100x better than that of MW, and the wood handle/rock head axe is awesome. If the beta is going to showcase this kind of work, take all the time in the world...ok...maybe just a few more weeks

Nice, very nice! Does anybody (outside the lucky few) have a clue as to what race/tribe/faction the second set of weapons belong?
Rynos
Jan 30 2004, 04:58 AM
WOW! Amazing screenies...
I think those second set of weapons are for a Haradrim(sp?) army due. It cant be Rohan because it would make no sence for them to have long bows riding horses all the time. If it was a recurve bow thats different. I dont think its a Gondorian army because some of the weapons look a bit crude for the superior Godorians. Definitally not orcish... Or elvish again with the crudness... I picked Haradrim also because they look like the weapons of a berserker.

I think the second set is Gondorian because of the lances. I don't think Haradrim use lances.

You schmuck!
Joking..
I think an animated flail could be managed in the game.
Just couldn't be super smooth because it'd crush FPS.
I could animate it if I could get a realistic physics script for 3ds max 4.2

How would it kill the FPS? An animated flail would not necessarily [sp?] have to use a physics engine, although it would be welcomed.....

Jan 31 2004, 11:03 PM

Hmmm... Maybe the second set is Gondor. I know the mod is based on the canon of Tolkien's Novels... However, the swords in the second set remind me of Boromir's sword from the movies because of the twists on the handle guards... Maybe it's just a coincidence or maybe it's just me?

Now that I've thought of this though... It makes me curious... Is it mentioned if the armies of Gondor used axes, flails, and maces in the novels? I always thought they were all about the spears, long swords, and shields... I think it's the movie's portrayal burned in my mind! I gotta go re-read those novels again!

By the way, the progress you guys are doing on the mod looks spectacular as these new screemies prove, can't wait for the beta and of course for the final version!

Thanks a lot guys!

The only thing that kills the possibility of the second set of weapons being Gondorian or Arnor(ian?) weapons is the wicked looking blade, and the scimitar-ish looking blade as well. I would say either Haradrim or Southeron. More than likely being the former, but again it's MHO...
Casuir
Feb 1 2004, 12:54 AM
The "wicked" sword is a flamberge and the "scimitar" is a falchion. Both, along with the rest in the pic, are european medieval style weapons. The only culture in middle earth which they should belong to are the decendants of numeneor, Arnor and Gondor.
Give Suzerain a bit of credit, hes more than capable of coming up with something a bit more imaginative for the haradrim.

They don't look half bad

Very well modelled, and quite aesthetically pleasing

But one point...and I hope you might be open to constructive criticism...
Well I think that someof the swords in the second picture look a bit weak? It could be because they're untextured, but they just don't have the same appeal/demeanour(if that's the right word) as compared to other sword model's i've seen...
Sorry to be one of the first to critisize

But I still think they are very veyr nicely modelled weapons, and the textures look stunning! Well done team!
As for who I think the first bunch belong to....I say the woodman...of umm...I forgot the proper name, but the woods to the north of the White mountains, who have Ghan-buri-Ghan as their chief.
Edit- Whoops it already says that's where they're from....

maybe I should read the posts better

But it was still correct...yay!

Think of how you'd have to script and then animate a flexible weapon like a flail.
First - you'd need different shots for whether it hit or not. The only advantage of the flail is that the chain can hit the side or top of the shield and then the head of the weapon continues through to hit the target. Also, the head of the weapon is never really on the same plane with the handle(haft) of the weapon. There would have to be not just one model, as there is for the sword and other weapons, but several that would have to be integrated by scripts to interchange at various points in the swing.
Now - the scripting - You would need to have different Armor classes for the PCs or NPCs depending on whether the character who was being fought against was using a flexible weapon or not.
If it's been done, I definitely give credit to the designer, and I would love to see it.

Daerk put up a link to a great 7min movie that one of the (ex)memod devs had made before going off and joining some professional company or something. It showed... well I won't say anything more. If Daerk feels that this can be made public on the forums he'll make it public. (atleast it was spoken of in the public #memod room so i thought it may be spoken of here).

I agree it's a beautifull movie expecially the transition in the music when the journey crosses in to the country of Imladris. But it's not made with the morrowind engine is it?
