Lately, I've been having a few Oblivion problems. First is the purple texture of death as seen here.

Purple textures of death

The purple texture only affects the close-medium range textures but not the far ones (I think). I don't know if this problem exists inside buildings and cities but I know for sure the purple textures appear outside.

I uninstalled all my texture mods, but nothing changed. Reinstalled the game, nothing. Deleted the entire data folder and reinstalled the game, nothing. The last mods I remember downloading were Qarl's depth of view and Frostcrag Reborn. I'm don't know if these mods messed up my game, I'm just saying these were the last mods I downloaded.

A few days later and a lot of reinstalling, the game won't even load up at all. I have no clue how to fix this.

I have seen 3 possible fixes for this problem. The easiest is to go into your in game menu, (esc) select video and make sure your texture size is set to large.

The second involved the meshes from unique landscapes. reinstalling them fixed it.

The third involves loading patches in the wrong order and the only way to fix that one is to reinstall in the right order. Note that the oblivion uninstaller leaves behind your saves, mods (data) and oblivion.ini. This may be why your game will not start now. My recommended uninstall and reinstall leaves you with a clean install. And your original mods and saves in a separate folder that you can put back into the new game. Or you can start over and install your mods again.

See this for my recommendation for uninstalling and reinstalling Oblivion. http://thewormhole.nfshost.com/forum/index...opic,641.0.html

Please leave some feedback to let me know what works. Thanks

Actually, I fixed the whole not starting up thing. I renamed oblivion.ini and forgot to change it back. I can get into the game now, but all the textures outside are still purple.

I changed the /mygames/oblivion file name so that the reinstall would create a new one. I loaded up (in this order) NE, QTP3, Better Textures for QTP3, all the UL OMODs, and Alternative Start (so I can get outside faster). There are still purple textures even with a completely new oblivion.ini.

It looks like you started with number two in my list for fixing purple terrain and that didn't work. Before tackling the clean install (just uninstalling will not work!) try the texture size fix.

This is a common problem and usually one of these methods fixes it.

If you find something else that works, please let me know so I can add it to my list.

Well the textures have always been set to large. I guess one way to solve the problem would be to delete every Oblivion file and start over. But I don't really like that option.

I don't think I have any other mods that affect close up textures so the problems might be in one of the texture mods I already have. (right?)

and exactly the 15 post down (scroll down, you'll see them) has this post. Click on the "LINK" at the end and download the new drivers. Worked perfectly for me

i guess you both encountered your problem after updating to 1.2 of oblivion, right? in case of a purple ground, replace your datashaders-folder with the one included here: Link
