has any one else seen the pictures of nibiru that are all over the internet?
it was supposed to get here in 2003, but i think that was a miscalculation on some stupid scientist's part.
the mayan calendar says december 2012 (something catastrophic is supposed to happen, but i think it will be nibiru!)

it is kind of scary, for the reason that if a planet that big comes on its "projected course" will shift the axes of the planet, and stop rotation for about three days!
all of this is in ancient babylonian writings.

Alright, in all seriousness, most of what is out there is just that, rumors on the internet. Any such planetary body doesn't necessarily have any connection with the events on 2012. If you really pay attention, there have always been these predictions of some sort of massive disaster, the coming of days if you will. Some of the initial draw towards the Christian religion was actually based on these sorts of predictions. People were always expecting the end of the world to be coming right around the corner, and suggesting that others get on the right ground with God. Religion aside, this trend has been continuous for atleast the last 1900 years, and will probably continue for several to come. It's only the events that will happen on 2012 which have actually stood the test of time, and actually seems to have similarities with legends of other early cultures, including the same period of time.

But, the 2012 event doesn't talk about any sort of collision or near collision, nor does it talk about any distruption in gravity. More importantly, if there was something that big heading toward us, we'd probably see it long before it happened. And there is nothing to suggest that such a thing had happened previously since a loss of gravity would likely cause a loss of atmosphere, and we've had that for quite awhile now. No, the 2012 event talks more about nature turning around and biting us in the ass for abusing it for so long, and thanks to the gas crisis, some nature friendly methods are starting to be put into place which will probably lead to a lessened event.

I sincerely hope that is the case. I theorize that the event in question is reoccurring and is part of Earth's natural cycle. I have spoken of this before in great detail ~link~. I think the event that will put us in our place is an ice age. Not a particularly extinction level event but the catastrophic aspect is that one third to three quarters of the worlds population will die as a result. Any profit looking forward and seeing that would say it was the end of the world. And it would be, as we know it.

Cruel as it may sound it's just what we as humans need to happen and it may just give us another 200 - 500 years worth of resources on this planet. We probably could use that wake up call and extra time too because at the rate we are going we are never going to get off this rock in time to save our species from extinction.

Less habitable area on the surface on the earth means that people in colder countries no longer have a reason to honor peace treaties. As a result, the wars that follow will probably result in the destruction of most the remaining "good" places which are left as desperate peoples turn to nuclear or biological weapons in order to either try and force their way into other places, or kill off those that refuse. When it comes to survival, the human species can be rather petty. And as most of the tropical countries in the world aren't very developed, even if one did offer assistance to other countries, it would risk putting too much strain on those very services. Technically, that's the worst outcome that could happen since there are too many problems trying to figure out who should live, and who should die. Atleast if it's something like an asteroid, that choice isn't so dependant on other people.

That reminds me of the plot to Battlefield 2142. But yeah, I agree. If we do have to suffer an extreme cataclysm, it's probably best if it's something quick and comparitavely random.

Like a giant meteor hitting the earth and eliminating 98% of the population. Or a plague that destroys half the Earth's plants, animals and people. Of course, a plague generaly isn't quick.

All seriousness, Homo Sapiens have been on the earth for 100,000 years. Mankind has lived through many Ice Ages. The earth would survive an astroid hit , as would man. the reasons why i say this is Earth has been hit by them a few times, may have wiped out the dinosaurs but they were cold-blooded, ( probably ) Mankind can adapt, mankind will adapt, unless the astroid hits the middle of america i am glad i live here. I wouldnt want to live in Florida, or the coast because what happened a few years ago and last week ( typhoons, Cyclones, ) would be dwarfed by something 6 miles wide slamming into the ocean. The ocean would only be stopped by the mointain ranges. I could honestly say alot of coastal areas, Enlgland, India, Southern Asia ( indonesia, Phillipines ect, ) would be gone and anybody living there would be dead. But those who live inland whether it gets reaslly cold, ice age cold or not, would live on because we adapt.

But you have to understand this one thing. Would people prepare for something that isnt gonna happen? We are preparing for an event that could mess stuff up bigtime. So its gonna happen, no doubt, 100% sure. in my life time? Maybe...Next 1000 years possibly. Next 100,000 50/50 chance. next 1,000,000 years something will whether humans are here or not.
As many craters on the earths surface, compared to those on the moon which is only 260,000 miles away, a big one will hit. If scientists are around they will let us know. whether they go with or against govermental wishes, if something like that was coming towards us. We would know. You cant hide something like that in todays Society,

Seriously i would rather go through that and die than die in war, or walking down the street or get into a car accident. i would like to see it before i go, what it would be like. Otherwise i hope i make it to atleast 85-90. and die having sex with a porn star.
