I am pretty new to this scene. I started playing Oblivion on the Xbox about a year or so ago. Discovered last year what a MOD was and forced/threatened my hubby to buy a new computer just for me to play on.

I love this game but know absolutely nothing about computers, things technical, mod making, etc etc etc.

Literally I can barely turn the damn thing on.

female from West Virginia USA. I love to read sci-fi fantasy, have lead a rich, interesting life (I swear)
Currently reading the new Harry Dresden book between Oblivion playing. Currently between jobs (poor me!) and am a mother.

Welcome. There are a lot of tutorials on the forum about modding. I suggest you start there.

When you have specific questions you can't find answered, come back with them.

I am not sure that standing by while anything is happening can ever be entirely innocent though.

There is a report button, use it rather than getting in a battle. No one wins these, and I find it painful and distasteful to take drastic measures.

Since I am stuck in the eternal hades that is West Virginia I may come across as a little...um..desperate for conversation...but pay me no mind!

Now who would believe that crap? Of course the whole world doesn't hate me! But there some evil doers who obviously hate me, very less of them though, but I know ninja has taken a personal dislike against me. But I won't get any trouble from him again, that's for sure. I can be friends with anybody! I'm quite easy going, and quite friendly!

But when things get ugly, I could get pretty quick to anger. If a moderator like Buddah asks me to clean my posts after done arguing with ninja, he's taken care of it. So I tell the attacker to leave me alone, and report him. I get quite angry with the attacker, but if I was a moderator, that would be a different story. If I was a moderator, I would issue the user the strike if he didn't stop hassling me. I wouldn't just defend myself as a mod, but I would try to make a safer community. I would feel the same as Buddah if I had to strike the offending user. That said. But I have to obey the rules as a mere member, and a respective user. I still keep my eye out for hot topics that disrupt the forums, and use the report feature. My thoughts said. Now back on topic. Welcoming Lisnpuppy here.

You're not the only one. I work for 12 hour shifts every Saturday and Sunday by myself (piss-poor way to spend a week-end, I know). So the Nexus is my only human contact for 48 hours. But I live in Kentucky, so it's a little different for me . Welcome again!

You don't even want to guess how long it took me to figure out what and where my "data" file was!



For example, just now I was trying out the new ranger mod and of course there was a BUNCH OF FRIGGIN' EXCLAIMATION POINTS EVERYWHERE!!

I am sure to figure it out though. The only mod that has bested me is Blood and Mud...I just can NOT get it to work!

And West Virginians are nice but I should have been born somewhere else. You know...with culture and literacy (I jest!)

EDIT: the exclamation marks in the yellow triangles, are the game engines warning that it cannot find the mesh. Usually caused by a bad installation.

Well you're computer troubles are honestly nothing that I haven't seen before. Like I said, I live in Hill-billy capital U.S.A., so most of the people around where I live can't even spell computer....let alone use one. But I'm an IS contractor for an Aluminum processing plant, so I don't have much trouble helping others get through things. The hardcore Game-application troubleshooting isn't really my cup of tea though, mostly I just deal with office type applications. But feel free to ask me any questions you might have and I'll try to help or at least recommend you to someone who can, if I can't. And after reading back over some of your thread, I see you said that you like science fiction. Have you by anychance read Spider Robinsons, The Callahan Chronicles?

Tell me which mod, and what extraction tool you use and I will try to help. But if you use obmm, you can just make an omod out of it and it will cure your problems.

I will download the mod and look at the file structure.

Yeah their one of my favorites. I'de give you a link but right now i'm on a computer with a dial-up internet connection, so it's a bit of a pain in the neck to page-hop. You should be able to find a decent amount of info on Wikipedia though. Heads up though, either 'The Callahan Chronicles' or 'Spider Robinson' won't produce any results when you do a search for them(can't remember which one is useless and which one gets the goods).
