Article link: Where is the Beef?

Hello dear Oblivion TES Community. I am very new to this world. My 1st mod was downloaded just the in beginning of feb and I really dont know much more now than then.
I am hoping someone will like my little diatribe and take pity on me to help me---if not..then I hops this just brighteneds your day.

1) I love the Exnems body. But I don't consider this a realism body. I would need the D Cup sagging, low rez/gossemer light look complete with all the white-trash perefinialia. -----I like fantasy! I would also liek to figure out how to put the damn tattoos on it!

2) Wish someone would convert all those pretty BAB dresses over to Exnems.

3) Why cant you mob makers when you put like-15 files in a Mod tell stupid noobs like me which I need or is it all? Ah...the duplications I must have gorging up my harddrive!

4) There is beef in Cyrodiil. Where are the cows?

That beign said--any info on mod making for someone who CAN BARELY TURN ON MY COMPUTER would be lovely. Or even direct tutoring. I am ,hum, currently BETWEEN jobs. I have practice time. <please invision a boo boo kitty face here)
I want to learn how to create new races, hair/eys (or add them in at least) and make clothes.

And last but not least --Grasshopper, what is the sound of one mod not working? Me cursing and trying to figure out load orders! Ha

Next, here http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/Main_Page. Bookmark this one, you will see it a lot. It has a tutorial on how to make your first dungeon that is pretty good.

Learn how to get around in the CS before tackling more advanced stuff like nifskope, blender and others. The Oblivion CS is not easy. I think Beth made it difficult just to discourage us.

Once you have gotten that far, ask again - the places where you get good info are constantly changing. sites come and go. sites loose info (if its not made sticky it gets pushed down and eventually deleted) and other problems.


#1: Once you have mastered mods, make your own body. Or mod the one closest to what you like.

#2: I think they have, search the site. If you like a particular BAB outfit, try it on your Exenm body. It may work. or you may get some really strange clipping issues.

#3: That info is usually in the readme file where the author has more room to tell you than the limited description space on the download site (Tesnexus gives a lot of space, but some other DL sites limit you to 256 characters or so.)

#4: Actually there is a mod that puts cows (as well as chickens and pigs) into Oblivion.

I thank you for your assistance. I do actually have the CS Wiki marked and use it. I tried to make my "own" race int he CS (which I play in some but of which I am very, very afraid)
My "race" was using an existing one, tweaking stats, looks and adding some eyes, hairs. It worked-sort of. Soem of the hair and eyes wouldnt work, some did. But it showed up and ran in game so I guess that was good.
I always read the read me's but as I am a technical idiot I sometimes just dont get it. I am constantly having to refer to Obligion mod terms to try and figure out stuff. You really have to know I am a 36 year old girl that never played video games much until this one. Now I am obsessed!

ps: I know about the mod that puts in the cows--but where did Bethesda put them? Alien abductions? <har har>

Some of the best modders out there are women - look at AlienSloffs work. Unfortunately for me, she prefers to mod men's bodies.

As to Beth putting in cows, I think we are lucky they decided to put in horses.

Perhaps I should think how lucky!

Most content made for one body mod, usually comes with a statment mentioning the usage permissions for that content. In the case of BAB, I believe most, if not all the content within the main download does not come with permissions to use it within any other mod which is not BAB related. Meaning that any sort of conversion would be against the wishes of the mod maker, those who worked on the mod, and would only end up making others angry. Do not assume that just because it is uploaded that it can be altered and re-uploaded. If you do not have permission to change content from one body mod for another body mod, doing so will only make the original author upset, and may be reason enough for them to remove ALL of their downloads, and/or stop making content completely. Please read and respect the wishes of other modders. If we say that we don't want content re-distributed, we mean it.

Yes I understand that not all modders wish to have their work "redone". As I said "I wished"
I have the upmost respect for modders work as I realize how hard it is and you may not want people hacking it. I found that overall the community is extremely giving with their work. I wouldnt know how to change it anyway AS I HAVE NO CLUE HOW TO MOD!
That being said I had the BAB body initially because of all the pretty clothing. I know that virtually everything made has been Babized. I just stated a "wish" but thanks ever so much for your insight.

You've got a good point about the cows......

They should at least provide some sort of explanation as to where the beef comes from.....

Perhaps it comes from another nation.........

There had better be cows in TESV. And you should be able to rustle herds! WOOHOO, ride'em cowboy!

Beef but no cows? I thought it was weird but never saw anyone say anything. That could be a new class. Wrangler. Be able to brand them with Oblivion symbols or something?
I still think maybe Aliens took the cows. Or do the daedra have a secret liking for them?

The permissions for the BAB dresses has been obtained by both the Exnem and FF communities, I believe. I know that some progress was made with the Exnem conversion, but, as far as I know, that modder has taken some time off.

Thank you for the info. It is most appreciated and I am glad to hear that it is in the works.

How To Create Mods

As for the "what is required" when there are multiple files, Dark0ne only just recently added the ability to include descriptions for each file. Before this, there really was not a good way of stating what was required or optional other than including it as part of the filename. Having the filename too long also presented its own set of problems.

Hopefully, we might see an additional feature that would allow us to see lists of Related files, Required files and Recommended files that are not directly part of the mod page you are viewing.
