I like Strategy games because it does not matter how fast you computer would be, or how quick your reaction is, it requires thought.

I really like FPS, RPG, Racing & Stratagy but for me there is nothing like piloting a custom 'bot in a mech-sim (mechwarrior series, earth-starsiege or heavy gear). so I choose "other" even tho vista wont let me play any save for mw4.

I like alot of genres, but the pulse-pounding, adrenaline rush of a FPS is tops in my book!

I like RPGs and MMORPGs but i also play Strategies and 3rd Person Shooters or FPS gamez. But i think RPGs are the ones that will always rock because of the freedom u have in such a game

RPG's and FPS's are my two favourite genres(I play all types of games, though), so it was tough to choose... I ended up voting for RPG's. For me the most important aspects of a game are immersion & storyline.

This poll lacks action-adventures, adventure, point-&-click adventure, and platformers. I personally love action-adventures like The Legend of Zelda and Metroid.

I can't stick to a single genre for any great length or I'll be bored to tears. I own a lot of RPGs, but most are old school CRPGs and JRPGs I collected when I was younger. These days it's all about balance so I've picked "other" for action/adventure type games. They usually have some decent RP elements with battles you can't sleep through. Both fun and intellectually entertaining.

If you like Fps's and Rpg's then take a look at bethesda's new game coming out called Fallout 3. Its got the best of both worlds plus its made by bethesda so you know its gonna be good.

The FPS has to be well written to be of interest to me these days. The Tom Clancy series, 'Splinter Cell' is a good example. 'Far Cry' is another. 'Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter' is a personal favourite. A bad example of FPS is "Doom3", and Tomb Raider - Anniversary. These types of games devolve into the number of times you must employ 'cheats' to continue.
Turn based Strategy Games, such as the legendary 'Civilization' series continue to interest me. 'Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri' still rates as an all-time great. But Real-Time strategy games, must have replay appeal. Command and Conquer's 'Generals' and 'Generals:Zero Hour' have a multitude of replay possibilities, and 'Rome: Total War' calls my name every 3 months or so. I'll even break out 'StarCraft' because it has the same replayable elements that I've come to expect from that genre. However, as popular as the franchise may be, 'Age of Empires' just doesn't have much replay appeal for me.
With RPG's, I'm a recent convert. My first contact with the RPG was a turn-based dungeons and dragons type game. I wasn't very impressed, and quickly gave up. The next RPG, changed everything. It was 'Deus Ex' - an RPG masterpiece, loosely masqurading as a FPS. Up until then, every 'shooter' I'd ever played, was a pipe. You would enter a level at one end of the pipe and exit out the other. All the baddies usually had to be killed. Boss levels were slightly different in that you got locked into a room until all the baddies were dead. 'Deus Ex' changed everything. Here was a game that gave you choices on how you would build your character. You could even play certain levels without killing, if you were skillful enough. Earned skillpoints and found enhancements could be applied to your character over the course of the game. Eventually your skill set would determine how you managed a level. The game even provided for multiple endings ... a true masterpiece of role-playing / shooter melding.
Then I discovered 'Morrowind'. Now life could never be the same. Doorways were not just painted on ( as in FPS games)- you could now enter every building in the game! You could wander anywhere in the whole freaking landscape. To me, this was revolutionary. Shooters, now became a poor second cousin to the RPG. Role-playing in 'Morrowind' had meaning. If a certain path was chosen, it could sometimes thwart another path that you may want to take later in the game. This is a programmer's nightmare, but tons of fun for a player. Role playing - love it. Then 'Oblivion' enters the landscape. It's a beauty to look at, but it's missing many RPG elements that Bethesda got right in 'Morrowind'.
'Oblivion' is a first person shooter disguised as a role playing game in the RPG freeform landscape. There are no consequences for making character choices, as every character can maximize all attributes, and every character can join all factiions and every character can become the leader of every faction that allows promotion. Too bad. I'm waiting for the next great RPG to enter the landscape. I'm looking for something like 'Oblivion' but in the RPG format. It has to have role-playing that matters.

RPG ftw!!!
I believe that playing MMORPGs takes away your life you get stuck on the sreen chating with others fighting etc... I prefer a lighter way of playin i like RPGs cause they have a story and you CAN END it and feel the satisfaction of ending it if you keep playin mmo some1 eventually will steal your glory and you will have to play more to take it back.i like playing such as FF not playing for ever and still playing playing.... I try different RPGs thats what i like.
Dont know how this sounds but thats what i believe...
For guys who wondering why then i play Oblivion i dont play it as an mmo leveling up with the usual way i just like the thing you can do in this game its cool its fun and you can find almost everything that in other games dont even exxist. I think the answer is obvious i chosse RPG.Thats it!Phew i'm tired!!

the role playing game is the best in my opinion. you can basically live your life in a game and do whatever you want. also with the edition of mods it can be a even greater experience. so yea i voted for the RPG. i mean come on who doesn't just love oblivion?

Truely both of them are my favorites.

I agree with paparas1, mmorpg takes ur live away (not everyones but..) and rpg is more fun, cus in mmo ur kinda like forced to get new items etc to advance otherwise ur a loser but in rpg u can just chill and do whatever u want, when u want and where u want that's cool.
but usually i play RPG and Strategy (AOE series etc) and sometimes Fps, usually steam games/mods

I consider MMOs, for the most part, simply large multiplayer RPG games...I had to vote RPG because sometimes you just got to play with..eerr...by yourself.

hmm i think paparas1 and Tankman got it right just about all mmos are the same and take ur life away. its all level, level, level get into argument about whose weapon is the biggest or how fast they can clear out this dungeon, room, ect. or join my guild.... any way it never made much sense to me to keep paying for the right to play the game after you bought the game. but back to the pole long time rpg fron the days of D &D 1st edtion pen and paper

I love rpg's and voted for it,wich is no suprise at a RPG site.
But i think there are too little good RPG's out there for the pc,I always loved the FF series, specially FF7.RGP is like watching a movie and being in it,well like watching lord of the rings and being in it.
oblivion is after a few years still amazing to play, specially with all these mods,it's sometimes as if everything is really alive in there.

my experience with WoW, it was alright for the first couple of months but then I started feeling like I was obligated to 'play' because I was paying for it & that sucked the fun out & when my financial situation changed so that I couldn't afford it anymore it was a relief to get out & get that gorilla off my back.

1. First Person Sneaker (not shooter) Like in Thief (& Splinter Cell)
2. Role Playing Games like Oblivion & Morrowind
3. First Person Shooter like the typical “if it moves kill it”

Usually an RPG fan but Oblivion has a real MMO feel to it. You know, go around doing quests and stuff. I think if bethsoft made it online it would beat all the other ones, Oblivion could of been the "WoW Killer"

MMORPG's are kick ass, but nothing amazing's come out.
WoW's a Grindathon and GW has a REALLY poor PvE storyline and quests... Prison Tale progresses too slowly; FF XI has very little reward per level and it just doesn't feel like an FF... But I like it ;o
Out of the 2, I prefer GW though, loads more PvE and variation. Little grinding involved!
Kinda biased asked RPG on a blatantly RPG game, but it's still interesting.

First person shooters. Well, I don't really favour them, but only one of them, or to be precise, Half Life 1 and the whole Half Life orange box (Half Life 2 + Episode 1 + Episode 2 + PORTAL + Team Fortress 2)

Strategy games all the way! My favorite is probably the CnC series, but I also play a lot of others like DoW, LotR: BFME II, Advance Wars, etc.
After that it's a tie between RPG's and FPS's. I love Call of Duty 4, but I also love Mass Effect too. Halo was great but so was KOTOR, etc.
