Pretty self-explanatory.

Seeing as how I play Obivion with about 60 mods, and Morrowind with about 10, and I still like Morrowind better, I'm going to have to go with Morrowind.
doomjockey
Well since I absolutely must use mods to enjoy Oblivion these days, I'll pick Morrowind.

Morrowind's core game is just plain better. Oblivion only looks better... at the cost of a few freedoms. TES4's comparatively lackluster gameplay can't hold a candle to the epic of TES3.
Povuholo
The only thing that I like more about Oblivion than Morrowind are the physics (for dead bodies only, the floating items are annoying), the graphics, and the quest section of the Construction Set. So that's not much.

Go Morrowind! smile.gif
wizardmirth
Everything I've seen so far points to most people preferring Morrowind to Oblivion overall. Oblivion looks better and in some instances plays better too, but Morrowind is just a much more diverse and satisfying game. I really hope Bethsoft takes some kind of cue and tries to use all the best traits of Morrowind in some way for TES V.
Malchik
Morrowind - by a mile. But it was MW that drew me into the TES experience.
gman021
Definitely Morrowind. It has a much better plot, and is A LOT moe immersive than Oblivion...

Don't get me wrong though, Oblivion is still a great game. biggrin.gif

I think they are both great games with perks and losses,
morrowind you could turn people into vampires, oblivion you can't (at lest that what what I herd).
Oblivion you can go to the shivering isles, morrowind you can't, in oblivion you can go to morrowind with mods,
morrowind you can't. morrowind has a better quest line, oblivion dosent, I mean really though, it's a prisioner, lets bring him along as we take the
EMPORER out of the god damn city cause he's being attacked by assasins!

They both have great aspects and bad ideas, we just need bethesda to combine the ups and make a great game!

With mods, yes, otherwise no. Oblivion's vampire system is a little illogical to me... Drinking blood makes you weaker? tongue.gif
Still, being able to drink blood in the first place was nice, and it was a little annoying in Morrowind that as a vampire you were unable to talk to anyone besides some people from the mages guild as a vampire without being attacked. Very annoying considering that Morrowind doesn't have a fast travel system that doesn't depend on npc's.
The good thing of Morrowind's vampires is that there are 3 vampire clans with quests.
And there are werewolves! yes.gif

True, but the Oblivion version of Morrowind doesn't have any quests AFAIK, and its discussion is forbidden on the official forums (We're talking about Morroblivion right?). Morrowind's Tamriel Rebuilt on the other hand... smile.gif

Yes, but you could just wear an all encompassing helmet like ebony and hide your face. Then, npcs wouldn't know you're a vampire. That's also something that's not in Oblivion...

Comparing Morrowind's graphics, and Oblivion's graphics.....

Morrowind's textures on the NPCs are not all that great, but runs stable. Oblivion's graphics are the most awesome so far in the Elder Scrolls series, but the quality lags more, for it's a little too much for my comp to handle. I haven't yet got a dual processor. It provides pretty cool features such as sitting on chairs, and riding horses, thank god finally. But requires a better processor.

Now for the features and activities for both Morrowind and Oblivion........

Morrowind's armor system is a complete custom set. You can switch pauldrons, gauntlets, and whatever. Oblivion's cuirasses are full sets. The pauldrons are already attached, and the gauntlets are a two set. I wish it was like Morrowind however. It sucks that Oblivion's armor set is not custom as Morrowind is.

Now for mods. Modding for Morrowind for me is pretty complicated. I don't know how to make valid armors, and yet still have to learn. But I pretty much consume Morrowind's modding system is hard. Oblivion was like pretty easy for me to mod. At least the full skeleton was included in Oblivion. The Morrowind skeleton is seperate for all meshes. The body parts were also wasting time for me to make for Morrowind. Oblivion's body parts were pretty easy.

Overall

Morrowind : 8.0
Oblivion : 8.1

Too bad the poll doesn't allow me to vote for both, but I choose both! Oblivion is pretty much my vote, but they're both cool games! thumbsup.gif
Povuholo
I think Oblivion's graphics were overdone. The surface of almost everything is shiny, as if it has been wrapped in plastic.

Maybe it's just because I can't run Oblivion at high settings, but I like Morrowind's graphics better. Maybe not the quality of the textures, but the style.

And the texture (and mesh) replacers that have been released recently or are being worked on are awesome (yeah I know, this was to be a discussion in which we ignore mods, but I couldn't resist):

Appropriate shiny surface

Yes this is Morrowind blink.gif

Oblivion's texture replacers, especially Qarl's, are great too of course, but for a 6 year old game this rocks! smile.gif

The poll is asking which one you would choose if you could only choose one to play without mods. Morrowind is a more satisfying system in many areas such as world and level design and UI but Oblivion looks better and has more advanced combat. To me it's interesting that Oblivion had to sacrifice some of the classic and most loved features of Morrowind in order to make room for new ones in Oblivion. So which game do more people prefer if they HAD to choose? Classic over eye-candy? With mods I'm sure most people would pick Oblivion, but the point is to examine the original games and their official expansions.

I think the colors are just a bit too bright. I miss the Morrowind shaders which made everything look dark and cool. I'd be nice to see this effect applied to Oblivion which might get rid of that "plastic" feeling you sometimes get. I may just have to get into some settings somewhere and try to duplicate it.
wizardmirth
Forgot to ask if an admin can delete the first vote? When I first posted this I forgot to make it single choice and some bored soul picked every choice before I changed it.

If this is not possible then please ignore one vote for each choice when viewing these results.

This poll is so far confirming what I expected although a few more votes sure would not hurt! This would help me with an article I've been working on. Thanks.

Ï picked Morrowind mainly because Oblivion is barely a "good" game without any mods while Morrowind is more than awesome.

When playing Morrowind, you can feel through the game the love it's made with but Oblivion is so plastic in many other ways too than its graphics. In Oblivion I can only hear its creators' laugh as their account$ are increased by every sold copy of the game. In my opinion Oblivion has a little, if any respect toward its ancestors.

I agree with Decal_Mirror, and I really do not know how to put it better.

But I will add to it.

The expansion pack Tribunal, for Morrowind, had in my opinion one of the better story lines among RPG's. Plus, Morrowind was so rich in lore, lore that I believe Oblivion was lacking in. Vvardenfell was a world worth exploring, Cyrodiil didn't hold a candle compared to what Vvardenfell was.

As far as mods, I think Morrowind's text based dialog made it easier to produce quest mods than Oblivion's poor Voice Acting.

I hope that TES V, whether it be the traditional single player RPG or a MMORPG as rumor has it, will be as lore rich as what Morrowind was, and not the static world that Oblivion was.

Just my two cents worth.

I think Oblivion's lore is relying too much to Morrowind's and is not trying to create its own.

I like Morrowind best becuase there is so many things you can do and so many places to explore. And Povuholo I'd like to know wich mod those screenshots are from, it looks nice.
Povuholo
Morrowind Graphics Extender
Vality's Ice Caverns Enhanced, Bitter Coast Rainforest (wip) Bitter Coast Tree Mod, Ascadian Isles Tree Mod and Solstheim Project. Almost the entire page, basically.

And Connary's Retextures. He's working on a megapack, which includes most of that, some of it updated, and more. He's retexturing almost everything. Landscapes, monsters, weapons, armors, miscellaneous items, buildings, chests, boxes, spider webs...
Zynoq
I see, thanks.

Morrowind is the better game to me over all, although i have had lots of fun with oblivion too. I hope to get a pc that can run oblivion properly soon too, I still like it, but am not really playing it atm.
bluekatt
seeing it was oblivion on the 360 that got me interested and i have been playing the core game for over 2 years now on the 360 before jumping to the pc version to fiddle around with mods
its easy to say i like oblivion better
in fact i wil go so far that i dislike morrowind when the game doesnt crash on me i usually get lost or get mauled and die very fast with out saving
einhander888
Hands down Morrowind was immersive, more citys, more people, more things to do and places to go, Much better storywise, and all.
I do Belive oblivions graphics are better, but the variaty and ability to just go off on the societys in the two games, well morrowind is much much better.

the problem i have with morrowind is the graphics, they show for the age, but i didnt ( stupid me ) realize people probably made the graphics look better like you can in oblivion. So with that being said i am gonna go check out the morrowind mods now...............Although i still love oblivion, i feel it is a worthy sequal to morrowind.

Yes... If the game is fun, then graphics don't matter... just so long as you can tell which way is up and which way is down! biggrin.gif

i stil play ps1 and saturn games over my xbox 360 games
so i am by no means a graphics whore but morrowind failed to grab me as oblivion did the whole world is open for me in morrowind but i have no clue what to do or where to go nor any inclination to do so either the main quest failed to hook me
which is why oblivion is better to me because it never really leaves me wanting right now i have 17 quests waiting for me to be finished

This is exactly part of what makes Morrowind better for most people. Some complained that RPGs were not open-ended enough. Now if we get more open-ended games some people may start asking for the hand-holding quests again.

At least for me I know I prefer the quests in the background and the world at large up front. What to do next? I love that answering this question could be its own challenge in Morrowind.
