Greetings and well met to all of those looking for nirvanna in the form of a mod in which you can walk ME.

I am wondering whether or not the locations of the other Palantiri will be set in the MeMod. In the works of JRRT, there are ones associated with Minas Tirith, Isengard, and, I'm assuming, the black tower, but Gandalf makes reference to not all of them having been found. If he is not describing the missing one that Saruman has, are there more, and will we, over a huge period of time, be able to perhaps find one of these others?

I do not feel this would impact the timeline as none of the items in the books would be findable, but rather it would be neat if you could find one of these and perhaps get quests, become one of a whole new faction, or perhaps even be drawn by Sauron to do some minor stuff that would help out the dark side of stuff.

I would include nothing that could impact anything, but perhaps things like do some of the things that are necessary for the return of the nine. (I do not believe how the nine suddenly became able to walk the land again is ever discussed) Your character might be able to do some preliminary work that could lead to the rise of the nine in the distant future if the timeline is in the past. The quests could be like things to retrieve some items from barrows and what not that would allow Sauron, when he returns, to have the nine available to him.

Just a thought on the Palantiri

Whoohoo!!!!!! My first started thread!

Thanks

As far as i know, the locations of the Palantir relys alot on the timeline, since the Numenoreans placed them in Minas Tirith (forgotten the original name for it, might be Minas Arnor huh.gif ) Minas Morgul, Orthanc and Weathertop, along with the three others that were kept by the Elves. When Sauron claimed Minas Morgul as his own, that one was lost so the others fell into disuse because of the risk they posed. Because of this, they might be in wherever they were hidden or they may not have been created yet, or whatever.

It might be better if someone who is more learned, or at least has the books in front of him/her could answer this, as it is written from memory, which is none-to-good these days

Well, loveme4whoiam, I think you can be quite sure that they've been created. After all they were created a long time before the beginning of the third age. But all the other things you say are correct..

The Palantiri should be accounted for, in the Mod I think. Again, it really does depend on the timeline. If it is before Minas Ithil falls to the Wraiths, then the Ithil stone hasn't been captured and taken to the Dark Tower yet. If Osgiliath hasn't fallen, then it's stone wouldn't have been lost. Also, one of the White Towers in the Havens held a Seeing-Stone, but not much else is known about it.

IIRC, Weathertop was destroyed during the War in the North with the realm of Angmar, but again, it all depends on the timeline. I also doubt that if we do (in some freakishly impossible way) come into possession of one of the Seeing-Stones, that our character will have the ability to truly USE the Stone. Only the strong of Mind and Will were able to really use the Stones, if a weaker willed or weaker minded person were to attempt to use it they would only see faint images of far off things (and they wouldn't understand what they were anyways).

I was also wondering, if Amon Hen is in the Mod? Because if it was, and our character sat in it, would not they be able to use it?

Amon Hen should be in the mod, as it was supposedly created before the third age, although Tolkien hasn't stated anywhere exactly when it was built..

I think the Palantiri in Arnor (at Annuminas and Amon Sul) were lost in a shipwreck, along with one of the kings of Arnor.

the palantir are all acconted for in one way or another.
from memory, their locations are:

The Palantir of the White Towers
The Palantir of Annuminas
The Palantir of Amon Sul
The Palantir of Orthanc
The Palantir of Minias Anor (later Minias Tirirth)
The palantir of Osgiliath
The palantir of Minias Ithil (Later Minias Morgul)

the white tower's palantir was focused only on the downfallen west.
Anor and Ithil were linked. Osgiliath was the master-stone.

all of them would only truly work for those with a right to use 'em. other users would only succeed with great effort.

and Amon Hen, and Amon Lhaw will both be in the mod. how they work I'm not going to reveal.

for the original point about the rising of the Nine, I'm afraid that really took place in the second age, sometime around 1900 SA, when the nine kings succumbed to the rings given by sauron as Annanatar. But it's a theme that is certainly a plausible plotline. perhaps you've stumbled on something we had planned for the mod. perhaps not smile.gif
