Greetings all,

Here are a couple of simple to use Hardware ID tools that might come in handy. Read below to see what each does. Yes, i'm aware these programs have been out for ages & yes i'm aware everyone here prob already knew about them. Still, for those that didn't, this post is made for them.

1) CPU-Z

CPU

* Name and number.
* Core stepping and process.
* Package.
* Core voltage.
* Internal and external clocks, clock multiplier.
* Supported instructions sets.
* Cache information.

Mainboard

* Vendor, model and revision.
* BIOS model and date.
* Chipset (northbridge and southbridge) and sensor.
* Graphic interface.

Memory

* Frequency and timings.
* Module(s) specification using SPD (Serial Presence Detect) : vendor, serial number, timings table.

System

* Windows and DirectX version.

2) GPU-Z - Almost identical to CPU-Z, except it displays your Video Card Statistics instead.

You'd be amazed how often I've seen people trying to help someone with a problem only to be stopped by the person not knowing what's inside their PC and not knowing how to find out. Through my own experience, I discovered that the Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Info does not work for some people too, so a free tool that can help is a welcome sight. Good post.

You would be surprised yourself, at how often I come across resistance when I post something as simple & harmless as info such as I posted above, on the various sites I do tech support at. It's as if some people take offense, thinking that i'm talking down to them. Really quite sad, for as you can see, i'm not talking down to anyone. I have found, that it's generally most often from those members that have a lot of posts. It's as though they think that having a high post count, automatically makes them better than the next member or smarter & thus gives them the right to be rude.
