There was miscommunication and conflict between the instructions I was being given and what was actually happening.

Through sheer ineptitude I had managed to dispose off an unfriendly vessel. At this point due to the above mentioned miscommunication I managed to engage 2 more unfriendlies.

In my total disorientation, I took heavy damage and tried to outrun them. This was not successful.

Finally managed to take a few calm breaths, pushed a couple of right buttons- and hey!

Have mined a nearby asteroid- they all seem to be veldspar around here.

Training

There was constant conflict during training. Rameen was at my side throughout, and she got her way in all the important decisions. I dare say I had much less influence on her career choices.

I ended up with:

Read the Manual

They had told me to orbit at 2500, but I couldn't even see them. Finally got in real close and manually picked them out. Miscommunication again.

On the way back saw the wreckage of a rookie (xsomehtin123456789). Felt bad about taking the cargo, and was wondering if it was legal. None of the 30 or so police ships in the vicinity seemed to take notice.

Took me half an hour to transfer my cargo to the station storage facility (this despite apparently clear instructions).

Thought it was a good time to get some missiles. Bought the hardware required, but when it was time to install it, I noticed there were no slots for it. Damn. Should always read the manual.

Am lugging this launcher (and a couple of missiles that I bought after I had realized my error- just couldn't resist) in my cargo, and going to look for Eve University.

Eve University

Found the regional office of Eve University. Unfortunately was unable to apply due to difficulties in communication with their database. There was conflict between the user interface and the underlying hardware security settings. This may take time to fix.

In the meantime I upgraded my ship despite a number of poor decisions while trying to trade. I have been unable to sell even one item at profit yet. My cargo now has:
mining laser
frozen food (bought at 80% more than the prices I have been offered at 6 places)
120 missiles (bough different kinds of missiles as soon as I got the missile launcher fixed- have not had the chance to use them)
shield booster
silicon
75mm Gatling Rail 1 Blueprint (seemed like the thing to buy at the time- but have been unable to use or sell this)
spirits
mechanical parts
silicate glass
civilian salvager (got this on a mission- probably helps to get stuff off wrecked ships)

Fortunately the newer ship had more cargo space - so it is easier to lug all this stuff around in the hope that I will be able to get rid of it.

The first one was called Ibis and this is Condor. Was surprised that even after my financial disasters I had enough left over from a couple of missions to upgrade to this ship.

Was unable to fit all 3 (the two lasers and the missile launcher) to the new ship- so the mining laser is in the cargo hold. Pity.

This is a really good looking ship.

I bought this really cool looking gadget to add on to the ship- but realized that during training I had chosen not to take that course on installation of these items. Damn. Wish I had known... In depression sold it immediately back (at a loss).

Interface

Things have improved over the last 20 years. Flying the ship takes much less attention now. Most of the systems are automated. More a matter of deciding where to go.

There is a series of maps on the right that should make more sense. Look like the structural representation of a complex organic molecule.

There is some activity in a communication channel on the left. Some of the communication is in an alien language. I have decided to observe this for a while.

Made a number of other bad decisions- including spending great amounts on buying training manuals that I had already gone through during training. The cover was different.

Forgot my entire cargo load at a distant station. Fortunately I was able to trace my assets through a wonderful asset finding service. Had to make my way back for these items that I felt I could not let go of. These now include some more items that are difficult to dispose:
heavy water
superconductors
quafe ultra

Have just accepted a mission that involves elimination of some undesirables. May get to use the missiles.

Lost

080323

A while back accepted a mission that involved transport of militants to a 0.7 security level area. Thought I may be swarmed by pirates, but nothing happened. The security forces either do not mind such transportation, or have no information about the contents of one's cargo.

Am enroute to this kill on sight and retrieve encrypted documents mission. Just before departure I fortunately noticed that I had somehow sold off (or lost) my main laser.

Have bought a new one- it says it needs ammo (the first one generated its own ammo by debris collection). This may not have been a good point in time to switch lasers- especially when I have no ammo.

One jump to go....

080323a

The gun needed ammo.

Fortunately indulging in those missiles earlier paid dividends.

Am thinking of contacting the Eve University regional office again. Just that have not been able to find it again. Have found all sorts of other corporations. These appear to be groups getting together to indulge in their common interests.

080323b

am feeling lost and seasick

totally lost

080323c

In my time of need I could think only of my agent*, and set course. Enroute I saw a familiar configuration of lines in the map and found Eve University's office. Have sent them a message explaining my situation.

*agent:

Overkill

080323 1945

The agent gave me a mission. Btw noticed that I owned another ship. Also good looking. Called Heron. Probably was the reward of one of these mission along with a cargo hold modification that I do not know enough to fit because of Rameen's interference.

Equipped this new ship and set off feeling pretty good. This was all ofcourse too good to last.

I used more than a 100 missiles and nearly all the ammo I had, and could not get even one of them. Finally had to warp out of the difficult situation.

Have re-fitted my Condor and am doing the run again- with a 1000 missiles and 1000 charges for the newly installed 150mm Railgun.

080323 2016

Interestingly the first 2 ships that had given me the tough time earlier, required only one missile each?!?

The next two required a total of 11 missiles.

Is it the ship? Is it the methodology of the attack (as this time I hit them from a distance)?

Have managed to establish communication with the Eve University. Talked to their representative on the Eve University channel. Have made necessary changes required in the communication systems. Off to find their office to formally apply.

I should have paid more attention on the way here. Have no idea where to go.

080323 2048

On attempting to apply I got the message:
"Your application has not been processed yet"
Along with my original application text, "I am desperate to join Eve University. Finally I found your office, but the in game browser is not working. Please guide."

080323 2104

Have identified Target Navigation Prediction and Rapid Launch as the areas to concentrate my training on. Unfortunately instruction is prohibitively expensive.

Also Hull Upgrades.
? Repair Systems

Have fit the mining laser.

I appreciate the message and the effort to explain some of the terminology- but am unfamiliar with some terms that make me apprehensive:
Pos’s in 0.0
station access
hacking sites
PvP

Wondering what to reply. Feel as if I should join this (or another) corporation- but at the same time there is this apprehension...

Am in this far away place. Feel the need to return.

As it happens I am stuck on the last of these missions. This requires industrial manufacturing of a perpetual motion machine. I looked at the built-in manuals and tutorials, but I could not get anywhere as I lacked the basic industrial knowledge.

This machine also requires a perpetual motion wheel that I could not find regionally. I did find the Industry training module- but it was 6 jumps away! Was about to set off, when i thought to check in the station and the module was available! (Reminder: switch from regional to local market intelligently)

Have spent a while hitting the books. It was pretty basic stuff- just had to go through it once. Should have done it earlier. Rameen strikes again. Though am finding it harder and harder to blame her. Left to myself I still would have made many less than ideal choices.

It so happened that I had no money to buy this training module (even though it was cheap). Was randomly going through my cargo for something to sell, when I found an advanced training module worth 500,000!

Now I am strongly against selling any educational material, but the present need was such that I did the unthinkable!

Unfortunately, despite familiarity with the process, I still have to solve the riddle of the perpetual wheel.

Cerebration

080325 1309

After a lot of consideration I have figured that research is required to produce better blueprints for this machine.

I do not seem to find anybody interested in undertaking this research work.

Feeling tired with all the cerebration. Need to get out of here.

I'm assuming the mission you are on is Mountains out of Molehills (5 of 10), so here are some instructions:

QUOTE
Making Mountains of Molehills (5 of 10) Walkthrough.
Required Items: Perpetual Motion Unit I Blueprint, Datacore-Basic Civilian Tech, Datacore-Elementary Civilian Tech, Civilian Data Interface

Place the items in your ship and fly to Scheenins IV - Chemal Tech Factory.
Take the items and place them in the ITEMS storage area.
Right click on the blueprint and scroll down to INVENTION and select it.
Then you PICK AN INSTALLATION.
Then left click on this station and then left click on a free Invention slot.
Then click USE ASSEMBLY LINE.
The screen should go back to the begining. Press OK.
Press ACCEPT QUOTE and wait 5 minutes.
After 5 minutes press SCIENCE & INDUSTRY and then press GET JOBS. Click your item and press DELIVER.
Put the blueprint in your ship and fly back to Clellinon and manufacture the item.

You may need to replace the place names depending on where you are, of course.

Ended up in a new constellation. Checked all the stations. There were a number of production facilities in the system. Interesting.

Went to each and every one- and they all had manufacturing services, but no research. Even tried a War School.

(note that the Range set is: Current Blueprint Location)

Something strange started to happen soon after I entered the next system. There was a ship that appeared have been automatically targeted. There was a new area on the HUD that was begging for attention. A strange colour attracted my attention at the top left: 0.4*

There a moment of sudden panic. The ship was now circling me, and there were these new sounds that were not reassuring. This seemed like a good time to make my exit. fortunately the stargate was right there.

Three systems later when i had nearly lost my patience I finally realized that there was a search option available for locating research facilities. There was one just one jump away!!

This was a beautiful outworldy facility. Made me want to take up residence there. The views from their huge observation windows were unparalleled.

I am sure I will visit this place again. The plain reason being that when I was handing out the assignment I realized that my cargo hold was empty! Had that ship in 0.4 somehow transported my cargo out of the hold?

I checked my assets to realize that I had simply forgotten everything. In many different places. I was also able to locate those items that I thought I had "lost".

Decided to collect everything.

During the long journey I was delighted to hear from one of my friends who had been a few months ahead of me during training.

He had wandered into 0.3 space recently and pirates had destroyed his ship and "warp scrambled" his pod and tried to ransom it for 40 million! Eventually they blew up his pod!

Got to check on my clone.

Have recovered all my belongings. Am exhausted. Got a headache. Need to hit the bed.

Feels so good after a rest.

The nearest research facility is 3 jumps away. Lets see what happens. Feels as if there are more twists in the tale,

080327 1417

During one of the earlier missions I was supposed to have scanned an object, which I do not think I did successfully. Despite this failure of objective, my agent seemed to be happy with the result.

I also remember the agent telling me that he had given me everything needed for this final mission. The research requires a data interface, a basic tech datacore, both of which are in my cargo, and an elementary tech datacore that I cannot seem to find anywhere in 3 regions.

Had I completed the objective in the previous mission I may have all the elements required. Or maybe I am supposed go out looking for it?

I was pissed when I got the message about the missing item, Especially so when I couldn't find it anywhere on the market.

I am thinking of giving up on this mission for a while. Bye bye Eve University.

Maybe I'll write to the corporation that sent me the invite....

Thank you AkiraWhite for your kind invitation to join BlackWolves. My apologies for taking this long to reply. Have been trying to find my way around.

It would be a pleasure to join your esteemed Corporation. It is just that I fear that I may not be able to live up to your expectations.

I am not sure what I want to do- so sorry I cannot be of much help in this regard. I could certainly use help in ship selection and skills, and group mining and group mission and fleet training sound exciting- though I have little idea of what these are.

I would be happy to tag along with whatever you assign me to.

hi sam,

Best thing todo is Pm me or Darkhamblett when you are online and we will talk about joining you up, mainly to see if we are right for you.

Aw

080327 2010

Had a chat on the Blackwolves channel- (while they were on a level 3 mission "hoping for a dread guri to appear on the last wave") and apparently the datacore cannot be procured on the market. I also cannot go back to the location that needed to be scanned as this is likely to be in "deadspace".

Rechecking my assets confirmed that I did not have this datacore anywhere.

I concluded that I was screwed.

But there is a slim ray of hope. The blackwolves confirmed my new suspicion that items forgotten in the cargoholds of previous ships may not show up in the assets.

Was far away. Am making my way back to check the Heron first.

080327 2027

The Heron is empty. If I don't find it in the Ibis I will be truly screwed.

080327 2034

Am truly screwed.
The_Terminator
My advice would be to join EUNI anyway, and tell them what happened. I'm pretty certain that at least one of their members will have a spare datacore, and chances are, they'll be happy to give it to you. I actually made a profit when I got my hauler blown up by pirates, thanks to all the kind donations people sent when they heard what happened (they are very generous people there). I don't remember ever doing a mission that involved invention, and I still got in, so dont worry about it - the recruitment rules are very flexible. smile.gif
Dark0ne
ETA on you joining the Bruce's, Terminator?
The_Terminator
Probabl next time I log on - it seems me and Pezco's only RO are on totally different time zones, so there was a bit of trouble getting hold of him for an interview. That's all sorted now though, I'm just waiting for the directors to approve it, and then I'm in. smile.gif

Unless of course they decide not to let me in for some reason.

Have just been offered 1 million for $7.71

I had been hoping to hear from somebody. Had selected a far off area in the universe and set course. Am keeping a close eye on the security levels of systems. There was the welcome sound of the communication system. Instead of the Blackwolves wholeheartedly accepting me in their corporation, it was this shady looking fellow who wanted to sell me money. Wonder if such entrepreneurs should be reported to the authorities?

It appears to be 100 million ISK (sounds a much better deal now)

Dark0ne
CCP do not sanction the buying and selling of isk using real world money. I do not know how well they enforce it but accounts have been deleted etc. because of it.

Unlike all the other MMORPGs, though, they have an officially sanctioned system for "buying" isk. This involves buying an Eve time card (digital 30 day or 90 day codes) from one of the many providers and then using CCP's custom built system to sell the time card to others for isk.

30 day cards are $15 and go for about 180m isk.
90 day cards are $40 and naturally go for about 3 times as much.

They have a similar system for legally buying and selling characters.

While the system is a bit cumbersome it is a nice change from the norm; a developer that sees a problem and has a positive stance on fixing it.
Theta Orionis
If you can be bothered, file a harassment petition when you get a mail/convo/local spam from an isk seller - but for each one petitioned about 10 more appear sad.gif
samroski
This person had joined a few hours before sending me the PM.

I like the idea of legally buying and selling characters (more so than legally buying credit). I do not mind people having a bit of easy fun, as long as the game balance does not tilt unfavorably. Most players would not indulge in this sort of counter-role play activity anyway.

Got a message from my friend Lemming. He's a Minmatar, but we got along famously at the school. Got in trouble on his behalf a couple of times. More like got him out of trouble.

What wonderful timing- with me at a loose end (and about to contact Eve University again to beg them to accept me with the 10th mission incomplete). He had just finished training. I located him on the map. He was 20 jumps away. This was not an issue- but 4 of the in between systems were low security. Two 0.4 and two 0.3 systems. This was quite disturbing. I charted the route, and tried not to convey my anxiety to Lemming- who appeared to have full confidence in my ability to negotiate half the universe.

Wondering whether it is best to leave ship in a pod just before the shields give out- or whether it is better to go down with the ship, I engaged the autopilot.

I could feel the adrenaline rush as I jumped into low sec space a while later. Was in constant contact with Lemming- so that he could record my last words, should I perish.

The first 0.4 system was okay- no suspicious activity. Soon I was in 0.3 space and still no activity. In fact there was no activity. Maybe I chose the right time to travel. Maybe I just got lucky. Three more jumps and I was back in 0.5 space and started breathing easy. I do not want to tempt fate, but the experience was encouraging.

Met Lemming and had a chat about our future, while mining. I wanted to start our own corporation. People in corporations were friendly and all but we were friendlier (at least towards ourselves). A quick check showed that this required 1.5 million ISK. Even if we pooled our resources, we needed another 1 million. This may be a hurdle. Still I think this is the way to go. So what if we do not know anything? I figure that it will take me about 100 mining expeditions to get the funds. As I know of no other reliable means of making a living, am seriously considering this possibility. By the time I make the money I may have learned a thing or two.

Part of the issue may be that I am in Minmatar space. Am already getting messages that some of the items I am carrying are contraband (these were entirely legal before). Do not know how the locals will feel about me setting up home here. The stations are like nothing I have seen before. Huge, sprawling structures that shine with countless bright lights in the ever darkness. I miss the friendly patterns of stars at home.

The_Terminator
My advice is still to join EVE uni, at least for a month or two. Running a corp is expensive, and you will gain nothing from it until you know more about the game, and what you want to do in it. And not reading any external tutorials is a bad idea; a lot of what I've learnt has been from tutorials on websites. For example, a great podcast for new players is The Drone Bay. The e-uni forums have a vast collection of tutorials and guides as well, though you have to be a member of the corp to view them. There are others around too; just search the official eve forums. But most importantly of all, have fun! smile.gif
samroski
And I may yet take your advice term. About the tutorials- I have nothing against them. It is just that I don't feel like reading them right now. If you remember it was after your post about eve university with ref. to the curriculum for tescc that got me to try the game. As soon as I join eve univ. I promise to let them train me to their liking. Had I managed to complete that damn 10th mission I would have certainly been in eve univ. already. But life has strange twists and turns...

Edit: I have no idea about the financial implications of running a corporation- so will check before I start. Can you like end up in debt?

Also thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I will certainly check each one of your suggested links (some time later)
Theta Orionis
You were lucky going through those low sec systems - Rancer can be nasty at times. In a fast frigate you usually have a pretty good chance of getting through low sec camps (unless you encounter a smartbombing camp) since most camps won't be able to lock you fast enough before you can warp away.

First time I went through Rancer and the neighbouring low sec systems the stargates were decorated with frozen corpses...

If you want to play it safe (and you're flying anything bigger than a frigate) set your autopilot to 'prefer safer' which will avoid systems below 0.5 security where possible (usually results in a much longer route though)

Your main expense in running a corporation is office rent - this can vary hugely depending on location (I've seen rents of 11000 isk and 100 million isk per month). Renting an office gives you a corp hangar where corp assets can be stored and shared between members. You control access to the hangars by giving roles to people. Roles also control who can do what within the corporation - eg accept applications, rent offices, take cash out of the corp wallet etc.

Be aware that there are corp thieves who will try to get as much access as they can, then walk off with whatever they can steal, so be careful who you give roles to, and what roles you give them.

One other thing to bear in mind if you're setting up your own corp is that you can be war decced by anyone wanting to grief you.
Chesto
sam... could you not put out an appeal to other NOOBS, on EVE, to think about joining up with you? And could there not be a pooling of resources of all interested N's? Of course, a certain amount of trust would be required, but.... If I was playing EVE, I think that I would like the idea of getting in on the ground floor of something like a corporation whatsit. The learning curve would be steep, but fun... I guess.

Speaking of trust... do you KNOW this Lemming character? He looks and sounds rather dodgy to me. Seriously crusty! How did you know that he wasn't waiting to ambush you when you arrived? I think I've run into him on other sites. Don't turn your back on him! And don't lend him money.

Add Edit: Theta just posted before I got this on. Am even more impressed that sam... did not end up as scrap! All that Theta says is v. wise but... surely the idea of any game is to have fun and what could be more fun than sticking one's neck out.

I was looking for this feature when i set course- in fact if I had known that it was there I would have taken 50 jumps if required- as long as it was safe. The amazing thing was that the fear was palpable. I kept telling myself (and Lemming) that it was only a game, but it felt much more real than that.

I suppose so. I do not know how one finds other new players- there must be a way- as the black wolves contacted me- will check. How will we know that they are not thieves? Not that they will be able to steal much - but still. My gut feeling on this is to stick in there for a few days- make money, make a corp, and then take things as they come, and recruit members as when. In case I can find some newbies, I will certainly contact them. But what if you as a new player are contacted by somebody who ask for money? Very few people would agree- unless you already know them

I don't know if you know, or just cba, or you do do it...but you should really only use autopilot if you're doing a load of jumps through high-sec empire and want to go take a shower or something. Don't use it when you have valuable stuff (more than 100m) in your hold or through low-sec because people can and will kill you easily.

Instead you should plot your course, find the gate that is yellow in your overview, right click it and select "warp to within 0 km". This will warp you dead on top of the gate so you can instantly jump to the next system as soon as you have finished warp. It not only saves 1 - 5 minutes on each jump but also greatly increases your chance of survival.

As I said, you might already be doing it. I know it took me a few days to work it out and it's a real time saver.

If you're in a fast ship (frigate or shuttle) then you will almost guarantee your safety in low sec (but not 0.0) as Interdictors can't bubble gates in low-sec. Bubbles are big deadspace spheres, up to about 25km in width, that you can't warp out of when inside. As Theta says, the only thing that will be able to get you is a smartbomber who is gate camping, and they're pretty rare. I've never seen one gate camp...but then again, I live in Fountain, which is pretty carebear.
Theta Orionis
You've not heard of the mothership camps in Tama, Aunenen and I think Otou? Low sec mothership camps used to be all the rage... I think it was The Establishment who 'invented' mothership piracy in low sec with their famous Nyx, Hera, but I could be wrong there (luckily I was never on the receiving end of Hera's officer smartbombs! biggrin.gif )

And if you're transporting anything of value in a ship that's easily killable (frigate, shuttle, industrial) do not use autopilot. There's usually no shortage of suicide gankers in the 0.5 and 0.6 systems along the major trade routes, waiting for a juicy target to warp in on autopilot.
They will have an accomplice who scans your cargo - often using a passive targetter so you don't even know you're being locked - and reports back anything promising to the combat ship. Then, when you come out of warp 15km from the gate on autopilot, the combat ship - usually a cheap battlecruiser - blows you up in the hope that enough of your cargo survives to make a profit. This cargo is picked up by an accomplice while concord blows up the suicide ganker.
After insurance and with basic T1 mods fitted, suiciding a Brutix costs around 3.5 mil (or used to - don't know what Brutix prices are like atm) - so you don't even have to carry all that much of value.
A cheaply fitted T1 Brutix with overloaded blasters can easily blow up an Iteron V in a 0.5 system before concord have put down their donuts and coffee and sprung into action.

I was not doing all this and this is valuable advice- will follow.

If you're in a fast ship (frigate or shuttle) then you will almost guarantee your safety in low sec (but not 0.0)

Feel much better informed to negotiate low sec space now. Will check and make sure I have a frigate or shuttle.

Gate camping and smartbombing sound like fun. These are now on top of the under-consideration list of objectives of our future corporation.

smile.gif no had not heard of these motherships. I have added this to the list of objectives of our corp:
establish a mothership camp in low sec with a fleet of officers with smartbombs

My accomplice Lemming would be most suited to be a "ganker".

Ignorance can be bliss- had I known all this my stress levels would have been a much higher through the low sec journey on autopilot!

The fact that I had nothing of value on me probably helped.

Bought a new ship - cargo holds 250 (previous 150), For some reason I had been carrying 2 mining lasers. Lemming told me about this ship he saw (the owner had been active for 5 years) with 5 mining lasers and drones. So have installed the 2 lasers. Am learning more about drones.

Was lucky to find a Calderi ship. Was dreading training for Minmatar ships. This one is called Bantam.

There is this strange thing. I seem to have more money than I had presumed. Don't remember selling anything worthwhile??

Am trying to acquire training on advanced mining and social skills.

080330 1959

Have been mining like crazy. Finally learned how to train my existing skills. About time.

Have enough now to set up a corporation. Have also just started experimenting with mining drones. Mining is nearly a spiritual experience. Had time to catch up on my reading list. Am thinking about the name.

samroski
080330 2306

Nearly jettisoned the drone in trying to deploy it for the first time. Got it working on the next run. Mining is now too quick. Need larger cargo capacity. Saw a ship with a large external cargo container. There were a number of other people mining.

Getting a new ship is not easy around here. Will probably need to train to fly one of theirs.

Cross cultural ties can lead to difficult situations.

Am working on my social interaction and trying to establish local contacts. This may facilitate acceptance of multiple races in the corporation.
Chesto
Have you REALLY got enough to start your own corp. already!? Kudos. You are focussed, man.

That Lemming... looks like an ugly-stick cross between John Wayne, Woody from Toy Story and a hairy sweetbabyJames Taylor. Is that the best portrait the guy could come up with!? My Gee. Looks like he could use hygiene skills....

The good thing about EVE is that you are in separate ships smile.gif

About the money- yes have enough to start a corp. more so now- as cannot think of a name (that gets accepted) and am continuing to mine-don't know how expensive it will be to run...

Yes, many of them appeared to be not totally there. I did not try and contact anyone actually. When i said, "Am working on my social interaction and trying to establish local contacts. This may facilitate acceptance of multiple races in the corporation" I meant that I was training my social skill which is a requirement for Ethnic relations needed to set up a multi racial corp.

Have been trying to start a new Corporation- but every name that I try has already been registered.

Lemming has suggested some names, but we haven't decided yet.

Somehow Lemming has a blue cross high standing as a pilot. Hopefully he will be a useful Director of the corporation. He has himself expressed his reluctance in becoming a Director, citing his lack of regard for schedules. His lack of regard towards nearly everything has led him into trouble many times. I am positive, though, that he will be great as a Director of our corporation.

Am continuing to mine in the meantime.

Came to this 0.5 system to check rents and my contra band was confiscated! And an office rental fee of 3,752,919.00 ISK.

There are too many numbers in that for it to make much sense except that the 1.0 system appeared to be the cheapest.

I should have sold that insignia when I had the chance.

Have Made Lemming a Field Marshal in D.I.N. corp. Found this beautiful place where we can have our office. But will not rent immediately. Am looking around this part of the universe first.

Spent about half a million on buying training modules for all sorts of things. Am learning to fly all types of ships and trying to rectify other shortcomings in my initial training. Wish I could go through school again, but too late now.

have managed to lose my mining droid for the 5th time! Did not find the first one. The second one I forgot in the asteriod belt 3 times. Fortunately I was mining in the same place - so saw it every time I returned and managed to scoop it back into the bay.

This time I cannot locate it. Have decided to mine without it. Mining is pretty quick anyway- and with experimenting with corp management- I hardly have any time to breathe between the trips.

Am thinking of making a trip back home to check out things there and maybe identify a site for our regional office there. we have a potential 3rd member of the corp. Kacus is a Glaanete, presently far away. He may have to make his way here. His navigational skills are much better than mine. He was able to chart a route here circumnavigating some low security areas by using only 5 more jumps (total near 30).

I wish I could make him a corporate member immediately so he can check out offices for us there (thus the need to have regional offices).

Same as the WoW farmers; people using automated programs, or just people who mine constantly and sell the isk they make to others illegally.

Interesting. Was just attacked by Angel Rogue. Was mining right next to the office of D.I.N. corp that we had set up a short while ago. This is at Odatrik VIII, a 0.8 level area.

There was this scraping noise and then I noticed a different type of laser. I thought this must be the strip mining laser. But then I realized that this fellow was hitting me.

All I had were 2 mining lasers. So I ran. Came back to check- and all I see is the wreck of Angel - oh oh here he comes again

Wish I had my other ship...

080402 2209

This appears to be an interesting place where we have set up our office. There is this drone kind of ship which is protecting the assets of some corp. There is a bounty on its head. I was totally defenseless so ran. Am now moving my stuff from Hulm to Odatrik. Also want to move my Condor here, or will buy a new combat ship. Found a great place to shop. The systems near here seem to be connected to the Brutor Tribe. They have a Treasury at Rens solar system, and this is WELL stocked. Got some information on Destroyers from there (among other things). May get to fly them.

080403 2142

I met something Khan. Had gone to take out the drones at the asteroid belt. I was in my Condor- with missiles and a gun.

Had gone to pick up my Condor from Hulm earlier in a shuttle. It cost 9000 ISK and it was FAST. Left the shuttle there and transfered my clone there. Felt good about that.

I thought I was doing some damage - and this went on for a while with their lasers pelting away at my shields. Then suddenly this big ship comes swooping in and takes out the drones in a couple of shots. This was Khan, who said he was "pirate" hunting.

Mining in this area is likely to be fun.

080404 1815

As the first mission of our corp we set out to mine in the area. Enroute I decided to pick up a rocketlauncher at the Brutor Tribe Treasury at Rens. I exited the station straight into a big battle. This was wow! Fortunately I was not one of the targets. I immediately called Lemming over. The battle was over but we checked out all the ships, which Lemming found "inspiring".

Lemming is a terrible navigator. Good that as Field marshal he will not need to do much of it. To encounter the pirates he jumped off in a totally different direction, while I warped out in the midst of 4 of them.

It is time to bring this log to an end. The rest of the story is predictable enough. The doomed D.I.N. Corporation will manage to recruit up to 6 members. They are likely to fumble around for a few weeks, and then disband, one by one, to join corporations that actually go to 0.0 space.

I may periodically update this log over the next six months, in case there is something to report.
Chesto
No, sam, no! You cannot leave me wondering what happens next. And the thought of Lemming loose in space, unmonitored.... Couldn't you at least wait until he crashes and burns? Surely it wont take long with the world class ineptitude HE displays.

Thank you for your concern about Lemming.

I will certainly certainly log our downfall, but the record is unlikely to be of interest to our community.

I will personally keep you updated on the well being of our friend Lemming.

No, dont stop writing these! While you might not realise it, they are actually really interesting, especially for new players not quite sure what to do, and for older players who may have forgotten just how confusing eve is for new players. I certainly loved reading them. smile.gif

And if you try hard enough, there is absolutely no reason why your corp will fail... try hard enough, and you could do great things. Many corps started off just the same way as yours has, and some of them have made it big (Jericho Fraction is one example, I expect Dark0ne knows who that is wink.gif ).

And if you try hard enough, there is absolutely no reason why your corp will fail...

I do have some interesting plans for our corp. (at least to me) We are starting off by working on our objective to mine in 0.0 space. We will continue to slowly move from 0.8 to 0.7 to 0.6 belts and so on. According to what we encounter, we will improve our defenses etc. and strategy.

We will similarly approach all of our objectives step by step, and see how it goes. We have a member already working on construction of stations (I think) and we are trying to recruit specialists in different areas.

I know that I may sound pessimistic- but am not. even if our corp fails- we would have had so much fun in crashing that it would be it worth it.

About new players- yes- the disorientation that you encounter in your first few days with eve is unprecedented. It was a wonderful time. Had no clue what was going on. Interestingly when I had problems and I discussed them in detail on the eve uni channel and with the blackwolves- nobody could help. Whereas the solution is blindingly obvious now that I am familiar with the interface. This put me off a bit, as both corps harp about helping new players. This helped me decide to set up our own corp. Also thanks to my daughter making most of the decisions during character generation somehow my highest skill was corp manag.- so that helped.

Now that I am reasonably well familiar with the game and the interface- the log is unlikely to convey that feeling of being lost. Thus the purpose of conveying the confusion to newcomers and to experienced players has been served.

Your only argument for continuing this log is that it may still be interesting. I am delighted that you found this record interesting enough to read. Probably there are 5 people who do read this log. I would continue writing even for these 5, but I fear that the log is likely to become extremely tedious and boring, and in life one should quit while one is ahead.
Chesto
Please, please, pretty please sam...! I'm lying awake nights worrying about your progress on EVE. Has Lemming brought about a Coup yet, and has he taken over your corporation? Is it just you two, or is anyone else deparate... interested enough to join with you. Is Lemming really as naff as you would seem to suggest? And does he smell as bad as he looks? ARE YOU SAFE OUT THERE ? Please...more, sam...!
samroski
Interestigly Lemming as Director of the Corp has made some changes which may be leading to a coup. I am keeping a close eye on him. It appeasr that there are a few players desperate enough to throw their lots with us- but for how long I do not know. As I said before, I will update you (but not very frequently)
samroski
Update: Field Marshall Steppen Lemming has suddenly left D.I.N. corp. This is probably a death blow to the corporation. It certainly has had a dampening effect on the enthusiasm of other corp members.

It appears that my prediction* about the future of the corp is coming true sooner than expected.

* Prediction: "The rest of the story is predictable enough. The doomed D.I.N. Corporation will manage to recruit up to 6 members. They are likely to fumble around for a few weeks, and then disband, one by one, to join corporations that actually go to 0.0 space."
