Well.. today I've bought a HIGHTECH EXCALIBUR RADEON 9550SE series graphics card and its great !
Oblivion is running smoothly and nicely.

So I was wondering, what type of graphics card are you guys using and post a little about it.

I know it was released in 2005.. but for me, it's acceptable.



I'm not so sure about that, probably only at that time.
But it's working great !

ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 512 MiB GDDR3 PCIe GPU. I was thinking about upgrading to a Sapphire Radeon HD 3870, but I couldn't find one at the time - guess I'll have to tough it out... Anyway, I am actually pretty satisfied with it (at least it's better than the IGP that came with my computer, which BTW, believe it or not, had almost 2 gigs or memory available, but yet only 128 MiB were actually used for video-related processing (of course, all of that other memory was shared, so what the heck).

BTW, why are using a 9550 anyway? You do know that it was actually released in '02, don't you?

Ultra-clocked 8800GTS, wish I had gone for the GTX now because I recently aquired a 24'' monitor where the native resolution is 19001200. For 1600x1200 the GTS pretty much resembles the GTX in benchmarks, but above that resolution you start seeing a larger difference. Ho hum, thankfully the games I'm playing aren't too taxing at the moment

Geforce 8500GT 512mb... pretty good, picked it up a couple of months back for £45, so a great deal. It did get damaged while it was being delivered, but that was nothing a pair of pliers and some brute force couldn't fix! Now runs perfectly, and I'm very pleased. I have considered upgrading to one of the 8800 cards, but I only have a 17" monitor, so it's not entirely necessary yet, and the rest of my PC is in more need of upgrading anyway. So it'll have to wait a while.

NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS.

It works fine for my purposes. I have a laptop, though, so no upgrades for me.

I have the best card of them all!

i use an Nvidia something-or-other 512MB PCI-e (tiny fan and no on-card power jack) and it SCREAMS and i could run Obliv and WoW/GW at the same time with ease.

4 GBs of normal RAm too, woohoo.

Just an old 7900gs, small but effective.

For me it doesn't have to pwn the game, just run it smoothly.

But my next rig, that I am going to have built when I retire (someday soon).....still in the design stages, will be the best I can afford at the time.

I'm running Oblivion with a trusty old 512MB Radeon X1800XT. With a few tweaks I'm dipping into the mid 20s in the forests during combat in Oblivion. The rest of the time I'm getting anything between 30 and 60 fps outdoors. Most sliders are on medium to max, running at 1280x1024, large textures, 16x AF, HDR on, and I'm using a few mod tweaks (RPGBlackDragon's tweaked grass meshes etc). No AA though.

Yeah, it's not the fastest card out there these days but it gets the job done quite well. Especially considering that it's coupled with a fairly weak 3.4GHz HT'ed P4 CPU.





While the nVidia competition is faster I'm looking into a Radeon HD 3870 for my next (C2D) system, mainly due to the fact that I love the stability of ATI's drivers these days.

(Without the horribly bloated CCC that is. Yep, got to love Ray Adams' ATI Tray Tools!)

Radeon 1950 Sapphire

I can run any game (that I own) on full graphics with no trouble at all. My problem right now is that I only have 1 gb ram, so that slows down Oblivion.

Oh actually one game that I can't run on full graphics is Lock On Modern Air Combat. Strangely, that game is a graphics pig.

Nvidia (MSI) 7600GT AGP 512MB DDR2 560/800 FTW! Yeah woo

It gets up to at least 30fps outdoors in Oblivion, and runs my selection of games fine at 1680x1050.

But that doesn't stop me wanting my new, delayed, 8800GT rig, or 9800GT, or 10800GT, or whatever it is by the time I actually buy it.

BTW, does anyone know how an 8600M GT 256MB DDR2 would perform compared to the 7600GT?

It would perform much worse, I think Crisb. Half the memory, and lower clock speeds, so theres no way it could outperform it. You'd have to look up the exact speeds to know just how much worse it would be compared to the 7600GT, though.

I do find it odd, however, that your 7600GT has much faster clock speeds than both the 8500 and 8600 series. I wonder why nvidia did that...

Thanks for that Terminator. I don't know why Nvidia did that, it may be the same as the 3870/8800GT that higher clock speeds don't necessarily mean it performs better. But I really have no clue.

Nvidia 8800 GT 1 GB from Palit..... I just got it this week and wow.. good stuff...

As a rule, with games, higher clock speeds usually have a much better performance impact than memory, at least as far as games are concerned. So I expect it's mostly an entirely new card, based on the 7600 chipset... at least, that's my guess.

I just bought a 8800GT Superclocked from EVGA. I will probably run at much lower resolution though, so i should be fine.

Clock speed is usually important.

I have SLI 7600GT 256MEGS

in this config, along with 3gigs memory and (at the time oblivion came out) a decent processor (though by today's standards AMD 3800+ 939 isn't exactly 'hip'), Oblivion runs very well at 1200 x 750 resolution (or whatever the reso is close to that (1200 x 800? .. something like that?).

the default settings were "High" when it auto-checked and my FPS drop to about 20 when things get hectic and are at 30 - 50 normally.

I bought an old 6800 Ultra from my brother in law a year or so ago for $50. It was an upgrade from my 9800 Pro. I'm so used to lower performance, I don't really notice the skippyness anymore, unless the FPS drops down into the teens that is. As for Oblivion, I have all the sliders to the right & running at 1024x768. No Grass shadows, everything else on. As far as i'm concerned, I get just fine FPS overall.

Back in the Day, the 9700 was the supreme video card to have.... In fact, I ordered an ATI 9700 Pro around 4 years ago from some no-name company online. Even though I new better, they were selling the card for uber cheap. I'm talking like $75 less than anyone else was at the time. So I ordered it & they sent me a 9500Pro instead and then when I called them, they tried to tell me that WindowsXP dtected all 9700 PRo's as 9500 Pro's... After a month of calling the company everyday, they ended up sending me a stock 9800 for my toubles. 10 mins later after softmodding it, I had a 9800 Pro.

Anyways, the 9700 was an excellent card....

GeForce all the way (ATI = )! I have a BFG Overclocked GTX 8800. It'll do whatever I want in Oblivion, and practically anything else. I don't plan on swapping this thing out anytime soon.

For some reasons, I get better FPS outside cities (but not as good as inside buildings), but if I look in certain directions while standing still in cities, my 40 City FPS drops to 17-25, while on the move, my normal city fps is 30-35, but in those certain locations it drops as low as 13 fps... Actually I'm starting to think its a RAM problem, I only have 2 GB (4 512mbs). But it never ever used to get that low before... Now it struggles with 2 NPCs (if lots of magic is used), and basically dies at 3 npcs (7 fps lowest! Any more NPCs and expect abysmal rates).

I've got clocked up 8800 GTX. Runs most games at Hi Res decently.There's some slowing in FPS in High graphics demand games like crysis but not enough to whinghe about. It's an awesome GPU.

Im running oblivion with a lot of graphic uppgrades as qarl, on full graphic!

I have an Ati Radeon HD 3650, and it runs Oblivion quite well.

I have an ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT, which according to here, can runn Oblivion on high settings pretty smoothely, though in my experience, if I try to run it at around ultra-high settings, it can go down to < 10 fps on high demanding areas like some outdoor areas or in cities with Bannanasplit's better cities. Right now I'm looking at an ATI HD 3870, which would help on higher settings.

I have GeForce 9500 GS. Runs Oblivion with no problem at all, until I try to play with about 150 mods lol

More than 6x Anti-Alias gives most of the problem though. Some mods like the Akatosh dragon mod, you don't actually see the tree until you crash into them lol.

But that might have just been settings which i messed up.

A GeForce 7600, which can play Oblivion on moderately high settings with good fps. I'm getting a new rig with 8800 GTS though...

I'm using the nVidia GeForce 7800 GTX, and my Motherboard Chipset is also nVidia.

Even though the card itself will be 3 years old come October, I have the advantage that it is listed as one of the supported GPUs in the Bethesda .txt file for Oblivion.

The only time I've noticed the FPS slowing down is when you see one of those "Loading Area" messages, or if there's a free-for-all with a lot of NPCs duking it out.

It does a good job even on games that have a Recommended GPU of 8-Series. It really shines on games that it's recommended for (such as "The Witcher").

Agreed with Varus Torvyn, my 7900 GT/GTO 256mb is somewhat outdated but I have no reason to hurry now since by the time the next hardware upgrade is scheduled the 200 series may be more palatable.

I have a Geforce 7500 LE 128 Mb (up to 728 Mb in Turbocache) and I can play to Oblivion only in 800 x 600, medium details and Bloom effect around 15 fps...
But, when I take screenshots (for uploading them here, in TES Nexus), I play in 1440 X 900, maximum details, HDR and my tweaked Oblivion.ini, Oblivion run only around... ...2 fps !
It's unplayable but it's the condition for taking some good screenshots...

I think I will upgrade to a Geforce 8600 GT...
This graphic card isn't expensive, I can buy this for only 49 € in a french website...

Nvidia GeForce 7300GT 512mb for me. I can run Oblivion on Lowish-Medium settings at a pretty solid framerate.

Yeah, thanks nosisab. The 7-Series was highly rated by Anandtech when it first came on the market. I bought the best Desktop I could get when the 7800 GTX was new. Even though I have a second slot, I didn't go SLI because Oblivion doesn't like SLI, iirc.

Besides, everything runs well on it. I've got the cash to get the best tower + top nVidia, but I don't have the desire to buy it right now. I like my dividends more.

Nvidia 8600GT is OK, at least to me. frame rate vary between 20-30 fps at 1024*768 resolution. I am a easily satisfied person.
